MRL's M-L in HO Scale
Ойын-сауық
My HO scale Montana Rail Link train pulling 85 cars up the hill at the club's layout. All the SD45 diesels are custom painted & detailed by me. The synched audio is also mine from a recent trip to the MRL, recorded on Bozeman Pass from a real set of six MRL SD45s. Enjoy. For more info on the train club check out www.CaliforniaSouthern.org. Here I am 12 years later watching this This was one of my first ever KZread's vids I've watched
This was the first KZread video I watched way back when I was a child Im 21 now
No words can describe how beautiful that was!!! Absolutely amazing!!!!
Well, I must jump on the bandwagon with the rest of the guys... I AM IMPRESSED!!! I used to belong to the Pasadena Model Railroad Club, but, can't do that too much anymore as I'm flying too much. Love the detail work on the SDs!!!
That's awesome how you put the real sound of a train passing by. Good job.
Thanks airing and sharing the outstanding video. Endeavors are unmatched. Bliss
Very nice detailing. I really like the patched units. Made the train look more realistic in a way.
I love the ex-C&NW SD45 you patched. Really cool.
Wow great work on the engines and close attention to detail!
Looks great, all the units are beautifully detailed!
excellent job on the ex paint schemes! i used to see all those engines when i was a kid
Great audio clip and sync job. Excellent work on the locomotives, BEAUTIFUL, I can almost smell the exhaust.
Mr MRL I have always liked your work brotha!
The hill is made out of cut sheets of 2" insulation foam board glued together with liquid nails. We used a hot wire to roughly shape the hill, applied a couple layers of plaster cloth, painted it tan, then applied gorund cover. Really a very easy and inexpensive process.
AWESOME!! This is really good!! That first SD-45 looked great, well it all did!! Great Job
I really enjoyed this video. Great job. Thank you for sharing
I've counted 86 cars! Cool! I love long trains!
Awesome!!! one of the best layout and seen that! excellent sounds!!!
Thanks for the information rForsstrom. I really like the look of the medal wheels, makes the whole thing look much more realistic IMHO. Regards.
really nice layout, good looking engines!
excellent job great sound and it was matched up so perfectly keep up the good work
Nice! It looks so real! Love the sounds!
This think is a monster. Excellent work.
Awesome there. You must have a huge layout to run that long of a train. Very cool sound and the train looks very prototypical.
WOW!!! Great video, and the greatest model of my favorate MRL engine (the 680) ever!
Great video! You've even given me an idea to 'fill in' a blank spot on my layout. A section of highway where railfans can take photos and videos of trains. Excellent! Many Thanks! :)
Wow! First, I congratulate you on using a tripod, as too many don't. As a fellow modeller, you've done an incredible job of modelling, not to mention marrying authentic sound to the video. A very nice job, and superb modelling.
Good matching with models and sound !!!
Awesome how you have the patched engines as well! awesome!
Still the best HO Rail Link vid on the tube after 7 years!
this is so sick ! it looks so real !
Excellent job. Very well done! from a fellow Model Railroader.
Awesome work!
enjoyed the cars banging the rail!!
Great Video and very good sound!!! Super Train!!!
That was just sweet! Looked very real! 6 out of 5 stars!
Great Video, Just when I thought the train had come to an end there was more :) Very Good
sweet video sound and everything. look real to i really like it great job.
You have one of the best audio renderings I've heard. There's been great strides in sound for locomotives over the last 40 years but, they still sound like a synthesized loop coming from a mobile phone speaker. Sounds like you used an actual recording of a passing train through good speakers.
it shurely was loooong! congrats, bro!
Excellent video
I am IMPRESSED! Nuff Said!
i really like that that electro-motive #342
The locos are Life-Like Proto 2000, the cars are a whole mix of stuff, Athearn, Atlas, Walthers, InterMountain, Proto 2000, etc.
that was a very long train! Very Nice! 5/5!
Great syncing of the sound and vid.
oh, ok still an awesome unit, i have a walther gold line burlington northern gp9 in ho scale and i love it.
Impressive video with great sound edited in! Matches good with the passing of the wheels over the turnout!!! Lucky that the camera had enough film!!!
Wow. I really like the vid! You have made my dream come true, but in MRL. I would love to run 3 WC SD45s hauling an ore train up a 3 percent grade with sound.
very cool stuff I love the sound dubbed in NICE!!!! :~)
Holy crap!!! That was fantastic, and the EMD's talk trash, unbelivable. Thanks for sharing. Jackmp294
awesome! Really impressive....congratulations from brazilians H.O. enthusiasts!
This is fantastic, well done. 5*****
@trainmandan05 - Actually the SD45s are custom painted Life Like Proto 2000 models. The GP9 is also by Proto 2000.
About half the cars in the train originally came with plastic wheels, the other half with metal wheels. I would ask for Intermountain 33" or 36" wheels at your local hobby shop, that is what I use to convert my cars that have plastic wheels.
Nice! :D love it! better than my mrl train!
So realistic!
Thank you!
totally awesome
Mas de 80 carros!! wow!
Thanks for the kind words. The North American rule actually only refers to a maximum number of power traction motors "axles" which is 40 per consist, so I come in just under the wire here... Robby F.
The woodchip cars are from LBF, now Hubert's Model RR Manf.
GREETINGS FROM MEXICO, YOU GOT MORE VIDEOS OF YOUR LAYOUT, I WANT SEE MORE. SALUDOS AMIGO rForsstrom.
Thats very cool, you would think a train like that would need some DPUs
Thanks!
thats cool how you synched the real thing to the model sounds so real wow the weathered cars and units and grafitti look amazing in the consist did you base this unit off the real thing when you saw it ? looks awsome 5 stars
SWEET!
87 trains wow
Nice !!
nice! Most of the power looked like proto2000, correct me if I'm wrong. Nice consist as well.
VERY GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!
nice well done 5 stars
Hello all, Your model train pulling 85 cars boxes, the locomotive is very hard it. these cars boxes the wheels axles is plastics, i have used in bachmann wheels size 36, very smooth than orignals wheels. Bachmann wheels has needle points, all metal as like as the bearing function. 16/12/2012
wow 86 cars...
@plastikblue Yes each diesel was custom painted, patched and weathered.
you did a very good job on this..love that coal drag and those locomotives are superb. Do you custom paint for customers?
The proto sound was added using iMovie, custom synchronized to match the video of the model train.
The models are all custom painted LifeLike Proto 2000 SD45s, and the sound was my own. I will be using Loksound decoders with these.
Yes you are!
wow! that was hands down the biggest model train ive ever seen. 7 engines, 87 cars, did I count right? The sound was awesome. Speaking of sound, im gonna sound like a noob here, but was there sound coming out of the cars?
I use to live 300 ft from a real MRL line. the horns are actually different from the ho scale
That is awsome!!! 5 stars for that, hey I have like little or no expirence with building model railroads cause all I've done is run ho trains on my bedroom floor, anyways I'm getting ready to build a layout and I was wondering if you or anybody could give me some really useful tips for me before i get started.
AWESOME! how'd you manage to pull one that long without it stringing on the curves?
This is fantastic! How hard is it to overlay the sound to your video? I realy want to try this myself on my own layout but dont know where to start.
I custom built the HH Guilford SD45 with Cannon & Co. parts.
No ACes for me, I don't think there are any out yet. Not even in brass. I have pre-ordered a bucnh of them from Overland's Tower 55 series.
nice.
Awesome layout! How were the guardrails on the street created?
Python7791 - The locomotives pick up 14 V DC power through the rails they are rolling on.
Nice trains man. Im looking to make a set of my own but dont really know of any cheap places to buy some here in Montreal, Quebec. Do u have any suggestions on where to buy online?
all you needed was some exhaust and this could've passed for the real thing! (And to those amazed at the site of 89 cars, that's nothing. You should see some of the freights that run 120+ cars!)
Get the Athearn one when it comes out so u don't have to deal w/ MTH's weird stand alone system.
I notice all your train cars have real looking metal wheels. Did you have to buy those separately or did they come with the medal wheels all ready? I bought most of my Ho stuff about six years ago and they all have the plastic wheels with just medal axles.
7 locos, 85 freight cars.
Those hoppers are made by Atlas.
awesome where did you get the hi nose sd45 former guilford?
is the last unit a walthers gp9
do the engines have batteries inside them or do they run on electric current provided from someplace else?
Hmm, Loksound Eh? No I'm not canadian! I work with ESU to get sound recordings for them, I think I hay beable to get a new horn for you if you send that sound clip to me, Ill get the right spot for that horn in there so you and I may have proper MRL SD45 sound, I have an SD40-2, BTW what horn does MRL 250 have? Thanks ;)
Nope, the 7th unit is a custom painted/chop nosed Proto 2000 GP9.
