This was for sure the episode that solidified Gary as one of the best characters. He's a bit flaky, a bit of a creep, but when you need him on your side, he is _there._ Now _that's_ a friend.

Gary was the MVP of this episode. True friend.

Hell yeah he was there. The unicorn in the woods, the multiple times he was tucked in the bushes with a rifle for support, tracking down this pedo and handling it himself simply because of how time sensitive it was. Calling in the 'cleaner' only when things were sorted. Gary was a wet mess, but he was there when needed, absolutely.

I like when shows do this, give even their secondary characters a chance to shine, and show they are more than just one thing. So many modern writers try to make their main character seem more competent by making the side characters stupid or dimwitted.

It's incredible how Ray's beheavior was different in this episode. For once Ray didn't plan and execute, he ran completely on instinct the whole time. Anyone who wronged him or his mates got dealt with quick and cold. The thought of someone selling a child into slavery hit that switch and Ray went "No, not on my watch."
@nattygraber1375
Жыл бұрын
But isn’t the point kinda that he abandons his good instincts in favor of blindly going after everyone who he felt had wronged him, when in fact the child trafficking was random and had nothing to do with him. He fails in this episode.

@@nattygraber1375 Time was of the essence, the girl could have been gone if he wasted too much time. So going wild was kind of the right move. And even the most violent criminals have two lines you don't cross, rape and pedophilia.
@OrdnanceTV
Жыл бұрын
I believe you are both correct, and Scott Ryan (Ray) shows this very well in the episode. While Ray loses his mind like any of us would in pursuit of the people who took his friend's daughter, he also destroys a few already-strained relationships, including his friendship with the owner of the strip club where he works, costing him his 'front' job, and at one point threatening to blow the head off a man's mother with a shotgun. HOWEVER, his quick-although-somewhat-irrational thinking also results in Gary acting equally rapidly, resulting in threatening the correct people and thus getting the correct information to find the girl before she is sold to some real pedophiles.
@nomahfuckah2080
Жыл бұрын
@nattygraber1375 That was the point. He got comfortable at the store and paid the consequence. The point was that cold blood switch he can flick is easier for him. Thats why in the end we leave off with him obviously not planning to stay in the taxi business.

The sad part is, somehow people would find a way to turn a system set up for nobility into something exploitable. @@banecastle8772 Likewise. I had seen clips on here, like the 2 guys knocking his daughters ice cream to the ground and a scene from his therapy meetings then I finally looked it up and saw it was years old and had 3 seasons. I grabbed them all, binged the lot of them and was like holy crap that was a good show. Normally I would object to the cheeky look in the camera during the final seconds but all things considered, I can't fault this show when I enjoyed it so much. From the first episode, seeing how the story telling was very linear and not jumping back and forth between 3 different plot lines. That alone was refreshing. We were on a ride, following this one man. I was all in, even rewatching some scenes multiple times because they were just so good. Another refreshing aspect was that he wasn't a psychopath like Dexter. He had emotion and empathy. The protective instincts, the feeling of pity and loss over a friend, the humour of covering for his mate with the "pee pee" movies then telling her the truth when it didn't matter anymore just to see her face. In many ways, just a good guy making his way. But holy hell he's not shy when the storms come. It was subtle and maybe some missed it, but a lot of his character I felt was perfectly summed up when we saw that tattoo on the back of his neck. What a brilliant addition to put in a show like this and hold off showing it until we've seen it proved true for a couple seasons. Just awesome. This will remain in my collection for sure.

A relative was briefly interned recently due to depression and met two female patients there, perhaps of about 25 years of age. One was perfectly normal and had a baby years ago, but was raped and got completely insane. The second was continually sold by her mother at 12 years-old to an older man who raped her, and she was also abused by her stepfather, developing bipolar crisis or something of that sort. This is to show that most obvious truth: rapists and pedophiles that are PROVED criminals (false accusations are in fashion nowadays, be aware of that) aren't civilized persons, and don't deserved to be treated like that. The same applies to anyone who protects them in any manner, specially by some sort of law bullshit.

It's incredible how Ray's beheavior was different in this episode. For once Ray didn't plan and execute, he ran completely on instinct the whole time.

Wow very nice! The way the scene was shot with that heavy one note & slow motion, to when he opened the door & they screamed, then mute was intense! I love how he disrobed upstairs in preparation for what he knew would be a bloodbath. Went in to that room like a bladed hurricane and came out knowing he'd delivered justice. This show was a surprise for me and a scratch to an itch I was barely aware of. Fantastic.

Best episode of the whole series in my opinion wish someone made a short version with more context to show everyone who really is Ray

This episode and "Monsters" are tied for the best of any TV show ever made. In my opinion, of course. At the end of "Monsters" when Burl Ives' version of "Riders In the Sky" strikes up as Ray ventures down the train tunnel sends chills down my spine every time.
This show was amazing, when I started the episode I had 0 idea it was going this way and my heart was in my throat the moment Ray asked Brit “where’s Maddy” and it remained there until I saw Maddy get out of the car and hug her mom. Then it was nothing but adrenaline as we cut to Ray. This show was so magnificent in every single way it seriously was just something I thought I’d try out and it’s one of my favorite shows of all time.
The only crime was just getting 3 seasons of this masterpiece.
As a father i endorse this public service safety video!
The Punisher with an Aussie accent...Works for me! Go Ray!!...👍
The look of fear on their face when ray walks in is quite satisfying.
The anxiety I felt during this entire episode is hard to put into words.
Ray is 100% a scary man even in appearance
Theres something si chilling about his tatoo. The way they showed it in the light. Its depth and power. Gives me chills.
Gotta rewatch the whole series again soon. One of my favorite shows.
Ray: “Next time, I won’t go easy on you.”
This is great. Leaving what he had done to your imagination is really powerful. Many great directors have done this instead of letting gore and blood take over. Playing Nick Cave isn't a bad idea either. Great scene.
When someone attacks you with a shovel they simultaneously showing you your future.
It's one of the best series Ive ever seen
How I wish it could REALLY play out this way, even just once. Ray's not going to mollycoddle them and keep them alive for decades!!👍

@@maxthibodeau3627 You obviously haven't watched the show if you think he's a "Punisher type". The Punisher is just some comic book character who is seeking retribution as a life goal. This character Ray is a hitman committing murder for a living, but in this particular example, I would hardly call it murder as these people deserved even worse than death, but this character Ray decided to rid the world of their presence for free.

Agreed, I loved that they showed that bit of detail and decided not to edit it out.
In my head canon Ray was a member of the Special Operations Engineer Regiment and I therefore saw him using a shovel, the traditional melee weapon of his old regiment, to kill them as a sign he saw his actions as deeply personal.
This is a fantastic show,which I saw by chance (saw a youtube clip initially). Really hope they may bring it back in the future.

Far better than most that’s on Hulu/FX and I’m loosely, very loosely associated with one of the major shows on Hulu at the moment and I still think this show is better!!
