Nitric acid is only present for dramatic effect. It is not used in doll repair.

He said he bet it was used in making composition dolls, not repairing dolls. I couldn't catch what he called it. Was that a brand name? 11.28

It's the first thing I'd think too, if I came across a steaming vial of nitric acid in the back of a doll shop late at night and picked it up to look it over: "This must be used in connection with making composition dolls." * I wonder what is a composition doll, haven't finished watching the episode, do old-time doll makers make new dolls by dismembering old ones and reconstructing new ones? That's almost horror. Hope none of them were working up to people.

@@Carly8Corday I have no idea how to make them, but composition dolls are sort of pre-plastic; not wax or celluloid dolls, but a kind of molded mixture similar to plaster, I think.

Not all women. Just women of a certain class and fashion consciousness. And who don't want to leave fingerprints when going over a murder scene. :)

Regular women and girls only wore gloves on Easter. Gloves for going out in the 1950s was a hoity-toity high fashion deal, like what you'd see in movies or on TV. I do love how no one went to the movies without dressing up. But I hate their hats, aaaggghhhhh! My mother didn't wear hats at all, even though she put new bonnets on us girls for church on Easter. She just wore her perfect gleaming hair.

I have seen booklets of social standards provided to incoming women undergraduates at three or four colleges in the 1940s and 1950s that specified gloves and hats for church and shopping trips off campus, into town.
