@20:04~ Isn't it funny how whenever an actor/actress "raids" a fridge for a midnite snac, they always seem to pluck out a chicken leg to gnaw on? Wish I kept 'em on hand 24/7...

Week after week, it takes the church bells to tell Jerry that it's Sunday! All part of the charm of this old series. Hubby and I are enjoying it. Our second time around. Third time if you count when we were kids and watched this. Thanks so much for posting it, PF.

I swear, when he said "I'd rather be dead", I said "Well that could be arranged", about a split second before she said "Maybe that could be arranged". I keep telling my husband I can't believe how often I can guess the next line.

If the cop and her husband had not come in at the last moment, Mrs. Bentley would have finished Pam off and easily at that!

Loved this one! I'm terribly, terribly fond of butlers, don't you know? I am getting a wee bit tired of seeing poor dear Pam fighting in every episode though. LOL I'm sure it's just a weird coincidence, but the last four episodes I've seen had Pam in a struggle. it's time for the dudes to fight. LOL

Especially since Pam is such a well-intended but weak scrapper. Virtually ANYONE can whup her hiney in with one hand tied behind their back. It seems the creator of these two characters feels that being strong or cunning in a fight is low-rent, the very last thing Mr. and Mrs. North are intended to be.

The ending is really dumb. Why would she let the old woman murder her like a frightened child without even trying to fight her?

  • @gerryc9857

I think the point is that she was supposed to scream when the older woman confessed and the cop and husband, waiting outside, would rush in, but she lost her voice. At that point you would expect the young healthy woman to knock the crap out of the older woman.

It could have been a good fight. I wonder why there was a premise that Pam would be easy for the old lady to kill with her bare hands. My theory is that this was part of the '50s-TV idea that people just keep getting stronger with age (up to a point). So in another episode an out-of-shape middle-age crook beats up a young marine sergeant with no difficulty, and publisher Gerry has to rescue the marine.

This is an era you're not that familiar with. Early years of TV shows, they were slapped together cheaply and dialogue was campy. You had to go to the movies to get good writing and production, we understood that. Still, Barbara Briton has a charm and pretty much carries the show Hubby shows up, like the US calvary, just in time to save her.. It's simple fun.
