The MR-1 comes with a massive spindle best for hogging through material at 8K RPM. However, my application is primarily aluminum and I found tool changes to be a bother as well as speeds to be too slow. Tool Change Demonstration

I still think this an impressive machine for the price. Love the new spindle.
I'm a CNC Mill & Lathe student at a technical college. This is a very nice channel to learn how to to customize the MR1. I've exhausted researching small CNC machines that fit a small budget. It seems, the MR1 stands above the rest as far as being able to cut steel without chatter (from what I've seen on YT). According to Langmuir Systems, they are releasing a 4th Axis version of the MR1, in early 2024. The pneumatic spindle chuck is a really nice upgrade. I wonder if there is room to have a small ATC rack? Thank you for sharing.

The MR-1 is a fantastic machine. I love mine. but it has to be considered that it is a kit and not a turn key machine. if you don't have time and a desire to tinker, then this machine is not for you- get a Tormach. But this machine is by far the best bang for your buck for the abilities it provides. unfortunately the controls upgrade was a mandatory option. the LS controls were unfortunately lacking.

amazing job! got me looking for spindles now. I just didnt want to take the plunge with a new controller too but I think Masso is in the lead. just more money down the drain.

i was warned about "embedded" solutions. maybe its fine but I steered clear of Masso. looks so sexy however!

Wow, night and day from the video you did 9 months ago about making a jig. Will you have any info on how your setup works posted? like spindle brand and such?

I intend to. I'm in a weird spot now with wanting to continue to upgrade for 100% functionality, but I also want to record my progress along the way- no time for both :(

@@ryanwykesnot trying to tell ya what to do but making shorts can help, they're definitely easier to make and take up less time to edit and post and you can break it down into bite sized bits. That's what I did with some of the things I came up with while I was assembling my Crossfire Pro that I hadn't seen anywhere else before. I watched dozens of vids about it before I took the plunge and ordered one.

Probably a stupid question but can the stock mr1 electronics run this spindle?

how do you think a 5.5 kw version of the spindle would do on steel? im getting ready to change out my controls to a masso system but seeing this make me think about changing the spindle lol

eBay ATC 1.5kw 24krpm. Mounts are from amazon. Figured this was a cheap enough entry point to find out if it was worth buying a nice spindle or putting the original one back on.

None. The end of the ISO20 Collet is in the same XYZ position as the old spindle.
