Hey I just moved to Austin and your video helped me out while I was looking, thanks!
I love visiting Austin, just can't live there now, so crowded. I live up here in the Panhandle in Amarillo and Canyon. Similar too Austin but smaller and a lot better.
I’m looking at moving to Austin in a few months (alone). I loved it there when I visited! Two questions - how is the bug/spider situation and would you say it’s easy to meet people/ make friends there?

I had friends of the family living here before I moved, and they were actually kind enough to let me live with them for my first 2 months in Austin, just to get on my feet a little bit. After my fiancé and I moved into our own place, we did find it slightly hard in the beginning to make friends. But it gets easier! We had to step out of our comfort zone and just introduce ourselves to people. We ended up becoming good friends with our neighbors and coworkers especially! Meetups and Facebook groups are a great resource too :)

How much has it changed? I lived there in the '80s in a house above Barton Springs that was abandoned. We just got the power turned back on and moved in. Neighbor gave me a ride OUT of town to work each day building apartments because no one wanted to live "in town'.
@LisaMilter
4 жыл бұрын
Leslie Horwinkle I’ve only been here for a year and a half, but the Austinites that have been here for a while tell me it’s definitely changed a lot. Especially if you were there in the 80s, it’ll probably look completely different to you. Which in my opinion isn’t necessarily a bad thing!
How did you find your apartment? I find it hard to trust some of the apartment search websites out there.

Hey there, I moved from Alaska to San Antonio. I always find myself in Austin tho for the music festivals and it just seems more lively. San Antonio is amazing but I’ve been thinking about moving to Austin. I heard it’s harder to find work there thought.. what are your thoughts on that? And also the cost of living? San Antonio is pretty damn cheap to live.

Wow, that’s a big move! Yeah I really enjoy Austin and while there are a ton of job opportunities here, it can be hard to find work for certain industries because the job market is so saturated with so many people moving here. As for cost of living, I talk about that in the video :)

I use to live in San Antonio. I moved in 2015. It is a lot more expensive in Austin. I had a nice two bedroom two bath in San Antonio for $980. In Austin it will be a little harder to find. I'm pretty sure you can find that price but it wont be as nice. I also use to live in apartment for $780 in San Antonio, two bedroom/two bath. That would be hard to find in Austin.

Glad u love Austin I moved there from Milwaukee when I was 7 and i grew up here
I also moved here last July! Except I’m from a smaller city 6 hrs away so I drove here. I visited Austin for about 4 years before making my decision but it’s the best city in my opinion compared to others I’ve travelled to in Texas. Moved here because there’s way more jobs and luckily I found a job inside Austin (working DT, UT campus, SOCO) I’ve loved and been able to keep which I basically get payed to just explore the city and I found this job in four months of moving here so I’ve basically been exploring since moving here and there’s still a lot to see. I personally just don’t like how fucking humid it is here during summer, in my old town it wasn’t humid but dry. I don’t really like the sun or being out in it nor showing my body so I haven’t enjoyed any of those outdoor activities ex: swimming, Barton springs. I was able to get my own apartment but as with the majority here it’s expensive and it’s not even one of the most expensive ones here it’s an income restricted one. I love how I can find lots of really good food spots here. Unfortunately my favorite Moroccan place shut down (hopefully temporarily) it’s called the flying carpet. There’s lots of awesome people here and the dating scene is fun. And indeed it’s not a huge city but it’s not small. Nearby cities are close enough unless you’re gonna be working inside Austin

Hello! I plan to move to Austin after I graduate college (Electrical Engineering Major). Which should be next year. I'm coming from Southeast TX (born and raised). Where I'm at we get the heat and the humidity so I feel you there. Also I do get allergies here but cedar is pretty rare here, but oddly enough we have two large cedar trees in my yard so that may be where I'm getting it... xD. My question for you is how much should I save for a small apartment in the downtown area. Enough to last me around 3 months. Finding a job can be done while I'm still at home being that its only a 4 hour drive making it a bit easier to move. I was thinking if i could save up around 4-5 thousand for the move I would be good in case crap hit the fan but I'm not sure. Great video! You got yourself a new sub :D

Om your salary would you be able to live & mortgage a small house say SMALL 750 sq house ... Or do small/tiny homes not exist out there. I like heat Considering moving to Austin Texas because I live in Southern California in the Inland Empire and it's just too costly to live here. So far with all the reviews of Austin Texas I like what I'm hearing. I also like that there's a lake and there's a lot of heels and parts of Austin can look like Southern California. Every single review I've heard about Austin talks all the time about the tacos. I guess I can learn to like them. I only lived in Indiana for 4 years. Moved out there for college. I understand what your call goes like. I was in Crown Point Indiana. The armpit of the nation.

You've never seen 'Austin'. Not the real Austin. You just see the commercialized version of what created it. The real Austin, took it's last breath in the 90's. Austin of the 60's, 70s, 80's and part of the 90's...is not the Austin you know. Not even close. Just a blip. Sure some of the places are still there, geographically it's mostly the same ...but the heart of it, not even CLOSE. Austin of old was a glorious place. Still a nice place but not what it was culturally back in the day. Imitation cool. Not the real thing. They should replace 'Keep Austin Weird'..and if you think about it, when they adopted that, and I remember when they did, that really was the admission of the reality that it was losing what it was...but it should be replaced with 'Keep Austin Commercialized'. Once they branded it, it was over. When the retirees moved in...it was really over. That is the definition of the death of cool. OLD rich people want to live there. Still a great place but living on the shoulders of a past that doesn't exist there any longer. Austin was a place that looking back you're just glad you survived it. That's what it attracted and I guess in a way, it's better now. It's more 'about biz'. That started in the 90's with the tech boom. And for people like you, that's a good thing. That's why you're there, right ?

I can only speak to what I know about Austin the way it is now, but I appreciate the insight!
Stop moving to Austin it's so packed thanks non AUSTINITES
Just remeber, Austin and all of Texas will not be the same if you come here as a liberal. Change your point of view if need be. Texas is basically another country, We need to keep it this way and it has succeeded on these standards. This is a true fact
I am moving to Austin next month on the 1 we can be friends
