Previously, our addition build came to an abrupt stop after Erin had a mini-stroke. We've spent the past couple of weeks easing back into juggling the build, the work and the farm. Whether we like it or not it will be a slower pace for us for the foreseeable future. The next step is to work towards building the remaining exterior walls, raise the ridge beam and begin rafters.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and the buiness/work related side of our life can be found on our secondary channel "Josh and Erin- The After Show". Here you will see us renovating our Cafe, opening/operating the Cafe with goods from our farm, building/furnishing/running our short term rentals, finding/operating our other real estate investments and more. Take it easy. I’m’ sure you saw this but TIA website says this: “Nearly 1 in 5 people who have a suspected TIA will have a stroke within 90 days, and 2 in 5, when given the appropriate scan, will learn that they actually had a stroke instead of a TIA.” You might hate people telling you to take it easy but take it easy. You have 3 kids and a husband you don’t want to leave behind.

Only after three months of intensive physical therapy did he walk again. But his balance has never completely recovered. Erin is one of the strongest, fit women I've seen. But her body is telling her to slow down. I join with others in suggesting you hire a helper.

Erin, In the last episode you said your neurology consultation was pushed back til April. That is too long to wait if indeed the doctors suspected a TIA, which can be a harbinger for major stroke as commented by CF. A TIA or stroke is caused by blockage of blood flow in arteries within the brain, either due to plaque within those arteries, or tiny clots /plaques sent upstream from the Carotid Artery(at the neck level), or from the heart. Knowing the root cause dictates treatment to prevent a major event. I suspect you were asked to take a low dose aspirin for the time being. Of course there are other conditions that mimic TIAs, such as migraines or multiple sclerosis. As a follower of your Channel and a recently retired physician, I am concerned. As your primarycare doctor to expedite the neurology referral. Best wishes.

What a sweet heart. Glad to see you doing well Erin and I'm praying you don't ever have another stroke or any other health set back nor the rest of your family. And I pray what ever health issue the one son has isn't serious and can be solved. Don't ever do it young lady your kids and husband need you around for a hundred yrs and beyond. And that’s what I admire most…too many of us would focus on wanting a house, but you show us that it is the memory of building it 100% together that matters and I LOVE that!

I am 70 yrs young and have built many structures in my life, including 2 home using LVL I-bean and LVL floor joist, but I am a little confused about using a LVL I-beam (floor joist) as your vertical support post for you LVL ridge beam. The support in the I-bean is when it laid horizontally, vertically it is really just two 2 small dimensional boards connect by a web. There was a piece of 2x12 between the two pieces but I am unsure how much support the I-bean use to this way will give you to supporting ridge beam. Maybe someone with more experience could clear this up.

Ignoring a TIA is not a smart thing -- it's a warning, especially for someone your age.

Erin, Your a very positive person. I don't want to be a Debbie downer, But I had a stroke 6 yrs ago. @ 58yrs. It changed my life. Whole right side paralyzed. I'm making a come back. But your case is very different. Your a major player with your family. I would take a chance. Take it slow and find out the reason why had a TIA. You look in good shape and I'm sure your eating healthy. I enjoy your channel.

Erin… please take it easy. My Dad had what they called TIA’s and one day about one year later he had a massive stroke. His TIA were not like yours. They were just a numbing and loss f feeling in his hands and legs. Then he had a really bad stroke. He never spoke again and he couldn’t walk… shave or go to the bathroom by himself… everything happened to his ability to take care of himself. He lived that way for 7 years and my mom had to do everything for him. He died in Oct and she died in March one year later. I don’t want to scare you but you have to sit back and have someone else helping Josh. You have to be active but not lifting pushing and pulling. You are strong but this was a wake up call and realize you shouldn’t be doing these heavy things. God Bless you both, take one thing at a time!

Erin, glad you're doing okay. The build is coming along even though Josh can't lift stuff! You are needed, Erin, but don't push it. Josh will have to deal. LOL Love watching Ellie with the herd. It's so adorable!

Continued blessing on Erin and the family. I enjoy your journey as you grow and endure the up and downs that come your way.

What an epic dose of support for Erin! I was just thinking about how well she is getting along, at least compared to my actual stroke two years ago. Now able to walk around and use both arms, but the right side is kind of gimpy still. But is slowly but steadily improving.

Prayers for family ❤🙏 Cayenne pepper is a natural blood thinner. Put in smoothies and take daily. If you're taking meds from Dr., please consult with them first. Josh, please take Erin off the build ~ I know you both likely said you want to build your own home, just the 2 of you, but Erin's body gave her a warning. WE CARE ❤️. PRIDE goeth before a fall.

So is fish oil a natural blood thinner if you are not already taking a prescription from the ER visit. Don't mix home remedy with aspirin or prescription medications. Watch the stickyness of your blood. Stickyness proceeds a stroke of any size. Life happens with all it's challenges. Stay strong and keep your family close.
