Moving On. Did I Overstay My Welcome?

#vanlife #adayinalife #mendocino
Moving on from Mendocino. I’ve been here for about three weeks. And this town has been a great place to stay. Some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met live here. But as a nomad, I do sometimes worry about overstaying my welcome. I also need to restock groceries and get some other supplies. So, I begrudgingly leave this wonderful place. But I can always come back here. And I believe that I will be back.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.
In an effort to help viewers search for the best prices on products that I use, I’ve started an Amazon Influencer link:

My hope is that you will use this link as a starting point to search for the best price. If you're looking for an item that isn't listed, feel free to drop me a question or comment and I will do my best to find a link.

👍When I’m on a road trip and I find a place I love, I end up floating between the area and another place within an hour away so I can keep going back and forth every other week or so until I’ll really ready to leave. Since I can work from anywhere, I practice listening to my gut and intuition to determine if/when I should stay or go. 💝

When you wash your Patagucci nano puff jacket zip it up and wash it inside out….saves wear and tear on all that stitching on the outside. I have some of that nano puff clothing over ten years ! I live in Georgia and it is perfect for the winter climate that we experience down here now. Too bad WD-40 is highly flammable or you could use that in your hair and beard. Down south kerosene has been used for many things besides fuel. I’ve heard it will cure the mange…on dogs.

I'm like you I don't like to pay to camp and don't want to pay to get in attractions, I do primitive camping in the mountains of Virginia at a place that was free for years but the last 15 years or so they made it 5 dollars a night on the honor system and that's ok they have water, shelter house, sand pit pads for tent, fire rings w/grill grates and nice outhouses. Your cream pasta dish look's great, I would like a plate of that! Thank's again for taking us along with you I enjoy it and take care, see you soon!

Safeway/Albertsons/Kroger/King Soopers store brand rotel is really good if you haven't tried it. They call it southwest tomatoes with chiles or something. I'm sure they're all made by the same company but they're using a different process that cooks at a lower temp or maybe for less time. Anyway, they're really fresh tasting and they absolutely blow away rotel. You have to buy the smaller 10oz cans like rotel comes in. The full sized cans are still overstewed.

Target carries some Dr. Bronners products. We are just a few minutes drive to all kinds of beaches and it does not get hotter than the mid 70s during summer. I'd recommend going north to Oregon. The Southern Oregon coast is pretty amazing. Brookings has many supermarket options. The Samuel Boardman corridor goes all the way from Brookings to Gold Beach. It is a bit busy now because it is the summer time but I think there might be plenty of camping/parking options. Most of the time when I go to one of the many close by beaches in the Brookings area, in the morning, I have the beach to myself and my dog. No sales tax in Oregon and the price of gas right now on the Oregon coast is still less than the price per gallon for gas in California.

Scott, you are so funny when you say, "l 'm not used to driving so much." For a 6+ years nomad, that is somewhat misleading although we all know you really mean "too much driving in one day." I have never shopped at either Safeway only because it is too much driving across town assuming there is a Safeway where l live. You are truly living the life, awesome scenery and great coffee. New hire at my store who mover from Concord, CA, sound

It’s perceived that I drive a lot because I live in a van. The reality is that I drive less. Over the 6 years I’ve lived vanlife, I have averaged 12,000 miles per year. Before vanlife I averaged close to 20,000 miles per year.

Simply spray your dishes with vinegar and wipe with a towel. It cuts grease and disinfects at the same time.

Hi sir, may I suggest going north to Eureka where there's a grocery outlet. But really, I would suggest visiting the Lost Coast, the small town of Arcata where they have a nice COOP market and then further north the small town of Trinidad that's really the hidden gem.
