Thank you both so much. It would be interesting, for me, to hear your feeling about having been put on notice some years prior to the loss via dreams. In my case this is so now my partner has been in icu twice last year. He is at peace with this I’m left to ponder. Perhaps a good deal of the grief has been done.

I wonder if this might be what’s called anticipatory grief. If you have a fear of losing your husband but haven’t been aware of it consciously, your dreams may be alerting you to this fear. Anticipatory grief is a protection, in that it’s the psyche’s way of preparing for loss and coming to terms with a possible loss. Alternatively, it could be a premonition dream. I think you have to go with your instinct on which it is. Just a thought.

Hi Ruth, I look at these sorts of dreams in my book. A category of dreams is the 'preparatory' or 'premonition' dream that alerts you to big changes such as the death of a loved one. I wonder if you also had such dreams of your parents before they died or anyone else to whom you are close? They are rare and precious when they are given to us. They can also come after someone to whom you are close has died and they tell you where they are on their journey after death.
