Good discussion. Social alienation due to striving for or orienting life around some new ideal can lead to greater individuation and individuality. It often does. Uranus is not about a group over all other considerations. Its about idea over relationship. It sacrifices groups and personal relationships for the ideal. Many transits and charts do not support the contention of Liz Greene's that Uranus is about group over individuality. Nice point by Jean Marc re Uranus as raw energy. Not a conscious energy. So many in astrology take the planets too far and get idolatrous with them and deify and ascribe consciousness to what is inanimate and has no free will. Nice point at the end re Uranus as the provocateur, asking humanity - who are you? Just programmable automatons?

Your explanation of Uranus makes my Uranus in the 4th house make more sense. I've always felt this movement away from the importance of individuality towards something more collectively-minded. At the same time, I think it probably made me overlook some of my true individuality until I grew up a bit, I wonder does Uranus itself cause issues like that when placed in a house so angular and lets say, 'personal'? I can certainly see how I can benefit society by being socially conscious/aware, but it's as if I've needed to work on my individuality in order to understand how I could frame it better. I can see how some of those Uranus concerns overshadowed a need for individuality, which is quite interesting and worth knowing as it helps in terms of personal evolution.

Maybe this is a bit off-track but another side of it I find interesting is I am a Leo and have a stellium there. I have these Uranus impulses, though I actually don't know how to express them in a very Aquarian way, but I know that I want to reach out and connect, given that Uranus is in my roots, that energy. But me as a Leo, I need to do it from somewhere that's very personal. A poem, a song, a sudden burst of expression through dance, I am good at leading the way with my own body/voice. I can be outspoken but it comes from my own heart, not what others have told me to say. I'm not good at being someone reading off a collective manifesto or repeating a chant, I need to be an individual burning with a personal passion. And yet... it is often guided by that personal impulse to connect on a collective level, breathe life into the world.

@@bakirwan1 I love this. Thank you. This is exactly the tension between the personal and the collective. Being part of something larger than ourselves I’d great as long as it respects and recognises all the individuality in a group. For you, perhaps running a community music, or art class might also be a way of marrying the two. Your creativity helping others to develop theirs.
