Movement Training Will Hurt You? Steve Maxwell on Ido Portal Reaction

Спорт

Many people see the flashy, cool looking movements Ido Portal and the whole movement world do as the definition of movement training.
Saying you can't maintain planches, back flips and one arm chin ups till old age is a valid point, but movement training isn't just about these cool drills.
Sure, developing cool abilities and unlocking advanced skills is part of it, but it's not the main focus and you can meet plenty of amazing movers who barely touch any of these highly taxing movements.
In this video I react to Steve Maxwell speaking to Brian on London Real about how sustainable the Ido portal method is - let me know what you guys think!

Everyone, regardless of what you do, has to moderate their relationship with that activity and that does not stop as you age. I think Ido, and “movement culture” in general has expanded the idea of what is possible for most people and that is worth something. “Shoot for the moon because even if you miss, at least you will be among the stars.” We may not all end up moving like capoeira players but a cartwheel or freestanding handstand and more importantly, the journey it took to get there, might be more than enough for some people.

Great talk, I agree that you will in some point change your practice. I agree also with you that they are not focused on longevity.

I think something that i found is functional and help your recovrey . Just walking a lot ( specialy barefoot e or with minimalist shoes ) fix your walking pattern /gait/ feet mechanism aand changing the way you load your hips will make a big difference on how you feel and control your body. Doing breath exercise 10 min a day Or Fixing your daily breathing pattern to calm nose / diaghrame breathing instead of a mouth/ chest breathing It make a big difference on your core health logevity and mobilty.

He was specifically talking about the flashy stuff. Obviously mobility work is great and Steve himself promotes it alot.

Yeah, I agree then, although him choosing muscle up as the example wasn't very smart.

@@thegroundedman2191 I listened to a lot of Steve's interviews. He mainly argues that there are safer and more efficient ways to train, especially as you get older. He says to do what you enjoy but just be aware of the long-term health effects. He himself train jiu-jitsu which can be a strain on your joints.

    1. Learn to stop grinding your teeth. 2. This will help you stop retracting your jaw. 3. This will likely help you stop tensing your tongue. 4. That uncoiling will propagate through your whole body. 5. Get back to me on what is possible when you have done that. 6. If you need to be told you aren't listening to your body.7. If you have been teaching a long time and haven't noticed any of the abovwe for yourself then you are a shill. 8. Noone being promoted by google on youtube is sharing the good stuff, the good stuff sets you free.... Shills sell subtraction stew, it comes in many forms, most shills don't know they are fools so pleased are they by the emperors cast offs..

You guys are missing Steve's point. He's simply saying there are safer and more efficient ways to train over strength skill movements that are not really transferable outside of their sport specific use. He's getting people to question WHY they do certain activities. He's not saying you can't do the activities but just to understand how transferable those actives are and the risk reward to them. It would be stupid to have a million dollar pitcher for a professional baseball team do muscle ups as an exercise because the risk reward is extremely high.
