Move More. Sit Less. | Dr. Stefan Zavalin | TEDxGrandviewHeights

NOTE FROM TED: While some viewers may find this talk helpful as a complementary approach, please do not look to this talk as a substitute for health advice. This talk represents the speaker's personal views and understanding of movement and health. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...
Move More. Sit Less. addresses desk-bound workers who, between their work and home lives, spend up to 13 hours per day in a sitting position. Dr. Stefan Zavalin proposes that excessive sitting compromises our health, happiness, and longevity. He describes the physiological consequences of excessive sitting on our heart, lungs, digestive systems, and brain functions.
Dr. Zavalin’s idea-worth-spreading is that the answer to prolonged sitting lies not solely in moving more, but in sitting less, especially at work. There are many simple practices that employers and employees can adopt to move more and sit less. These practices require a cultural shift brought about by managers who learn, lead, and lend a hand. This cultural shift will improve productivity, morale, and energy.
Dr. Stefan Zavalin helps companies improve employee well-being and productivity through a culture of moving more and sitting less. You can reach Dr. Zavalin at stefanzavalin@ltmmtl.com This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
