Mountain Meditation: BC Grizzly Bear | S6E02 | MeatEater

Спорт

Ryan Callaghan and Aaron Evans join Steve on an epic adventure in British Columbia’s Rockies to pursue grizzly bears. Steve has long desired to take a grizzly but only if he can do it in a way that fits his personal ethics. The hunt is dampened by frustrating weather but Steve finds a way to fix a tasty meal.

This place is exactly why I fell in love with the mountains. Robert Redford in the 70's played the role in Jeremiah Johnson. I was raised in the city in an apartment complex. When I was able, I traveled to any mountain that I could. Finally, when I married my wife Kathy, we spent every moment that we could get in the Great Smokey Mountains and the Cherokee area. I was never drawn to the ocean. In the mountains, we found peace and solitude. A chance to look, explore and reflect on our lives. It is so quiet from all noises of the city and people. I can see the forest covered in wildlife everywhere. Native Americans going on hunting parties or maybe scouting. In these areas, the Natives lived in Longhouses for several generations. I see the same things when I watch you guys in awe of real-life experiences on each day that you survive the ever-changing weather and terrain. You go for that extra mile in hopes of what is just beyond the ridge or as you glass everywhere hoping to anticipate that great sight of what your dream hunt consists of. You stop momentarily as if to break the monotony and go after birds for a hot meal for supper after a long day of excitement. The company of friends sharing the great new untamed world that you have seen that day. And anticipating what the next day will bring.

It will be tourism like no other if we are able to have a generation of peace after 43 years of war. But I can only hope 😔

I hunted on the Alberta side of this range about 20 miles away. The guy who brought them in with horses was my guide in 2000 as we shot a monster moose. I hunted that range for 10 years and still do. Alberta side you can't kill the grizzlies. I say two things, it's unbelievably beautiful and there is a lot of grizzlies. Some mornings my horses would be wrangled by a big boar and they would be standing outside my tent door. Like he said huge country, that no one goes far into.

The experience of the hunt is the thrill of it, the killing is the only part i hate, but as long as its done swiftly and respectfully then its been done right. great vid ! I learned alot about topo maps from this vid and another one in regards to knowing terms of the terrain of topos maps. If you vent your frustrations on forums all they do is give you a hard time and say your lazy after hitting it relatively hard throughout the hunt. Only one guy out of 10 mentioned topos and learning them. After sitting in a boxed property for many years and the amount of deer passing through began to shrink I started to venture out. Now the work begins.

You boys ever notice how pack horses will hit the packs on every tree they pass? Get you a mule up there those bad boys are smart, they’ll smack a couple trees but over time they learn to avoid them

Someday I want to do a hunt just like this. I've always lived and hunted in the mountains of Maine for white tail deer and black bear. The ultimate hunt would be going miles out in the woods for a big ole grizzly.

Grizzly hunting ban here and that's mostly what you see. No Elk, no Moose. A couple straggling Mountain Cariboo which will be in the bellies of those cubs soon.

Probably not, very small window they aren’t strong enough to outrun Grizzlies. Elk Calves only need to survive first month and they’re coordinated enough to escape. But nice try thinking they’re more of the cold blooded killers than we are.

Ok y’all just gonna ignore this piece of poetry…😂 “Like catching a glimpse of a skinny dipper vanishing into a lake at night, the brief sighting only makes you more aware of what you never saw” yep, mhmm, I’ve been there before lol 😂 like, “wait, I didn’t…see…what I thought I saw…did I”?!
