Sean, as usual, great quality and very knowledgeable on your videos man! I am wanting to purchase one, but my only concern is the size. I have read multiple reviews of people trying to stay true to size, but find this jacket to run a little big. I have a Ghost Whisperer 1 (in a large) and the only beef is that it is long in the arms (I am 5’9 200 lbs stocky). With that, should I down it to a medium, or continue running a large? Again man, great video, and thank you for your time on answering my question.

Hello Zach! Thank you for the kind words! Much appreciated my friend. I feel you on the long arms. However, I do appreciate the rest of the jacket fitting the way I need it too. I would go with the large to fit the body and deal with the arms. I really hope that helps!

Hey Liam, so we are looking for -4F jacket? I think you could pull that off with proper layering. I run hot and can get by with just 200wt merino and puffy for those temps, as long as I am moving steadily.

When looking the video it seems you're saying the GW2 has now water resistant down (hyperdry down), but the GW1 had it as well with QShield, the water resistance isn't really a new feature of the 2nd version. From what I found online, it seems the HyperDry method is much more Ecologic friendly. I couldn't find any reference about the difference of efficiency. It seems the new UL GW garnment has no water resistance treatment, compared to Gw1 and Gw2

Good feedback. You are spot on with the HyperDry. Better overall considering the eco friendliness. I have not tested the UL version. Yet. Perhaps we will!! I will see if that is an option with our MH contact. FWIW the GW2 has been great. Several on our Engearment team use it often.

I wish I could find a down jacket with a fleece lined collar. So far I think I've only seen fleece collars on synthetic jackets. By the way, for anyone with small zipper complaints, you can add a little attachment to your zipper to make it easier to grab. Either a piece of string or a little rubber like attachment. Personally I think sometimes they go overboard with wanting to be light. Like make the jacket light sure, but don't skip on a easy to use zipper. If 0.05 % difference (that's a random guess I suck at math) in weight is too much for you then you're a pansy lol

I light have a good option for you! Doing a review on a down puffy from 686. I will have that you this week. It has a merino liner. Good call on the zipper pulls. I use the cord from Kuhl packaging as extra grab for pulls. Patagonia also has nice ones from their repair shop. Very good tactic to fix the small zippers. Take care!

I actually purchased this jacket however I was extremely disappointed with the fit of the hood. It felt like the hood just flopped around letting heat out. I bet the non-hooded version would be absolutely awesome because it has a great fit and it’s really light Wright. what jackets would you recommend that are comparable that have an adjustable hood and are also packable and water resistant?

  • @Engearment

I totally understand on the lack of hood adjustment. I did a comparison review of the MH GW vs the Patagonia DAS Light and Micro Puff. The DAS Light is a few ounces heavier, but is fully featured and has a great hood. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aX-Hpo-Mmpy5oLA.html

@@Engearment Thanks, Sean, I recently came across a lot of your videos. We have the same body type (thick back muscle and all) except you're 4 inches taller so your fit note was helpful. You should make a few side-by-side comparisons. I am mostly interested in durability and warmth for climbing and backcountry camping. So knowing the minor difference between some of these jackets (Ghost whisperer, Phanton, micro-puff, nano-puff, Cerium) would help. I currently have a 5 years old Arc'teryx Cerium LT, it's an amazing jacket, but I find the fit really tight around the shoulder, armpit, and arm. It looks like the MH Phantom has a more athletic fit with room around the shoulder and not a lot of excess around the waist. Judging from your videos anyway. Also, I notice you have a lot of reviews on active insulation as well. Again, you can do a video to compare them all. I have experience with the BD Firstlight, MH Kor strata, Patagonia Nano-air and nano-air hybrid, Proton LT, and FL. They each have a distinct fit and best use case so I think it good for your viewers to know. For instance, I find the first light to be the most durable face fabric, the least breathable, but it's warm. The fit is also longer than on the sleeve and hem. The nano-air is very breathable, but not durable enough to rub up on rocks, the fit is kind of slightly loose all over. The MH Kor strata have excellent value and its performance is kind of middle of the road. I eventually settle down on the Arc'teryx Proton LT (winter) and FL (3 seasons) mostly for durability and fit with adequate breathability. I would be interested in how the Outdoor Research refuge Air and Ascendant compare. I know that Rab has their Alpha series of jackets, but it's unlikely to fit me. I've never tried Marmot because of their baggy fit.

@@thdjjfsfh I like your thinking! I just wrapped up a comparison video of the GW2 vs Micro Puff vs DAS Light. I will have that up in a few days. I will get another round up style video on several of the active insulation jackets you mentioned as well. I think that will help a lot of the viewers out there as well. Good thinking Thanh! Thanks and take care - Sean

Nice Video and a great jacket! Just for information. The older models (like my Ghost wisperer 2 from 2018) also offers hydrophobic down (they use nikwax). The new hyperdry method looks like it need less water. So the production process seems to be more environmentally friendly.
