Great review I’m still waiting to find that good deal! I currently own three puffs: a PataGucci Nano Puff, a synthetic puffy from LL Bean, and a cheap down Eddie Bauer puffy. The EB puffy has been my go to because it was cheap, it’s super warm, and I’m not afraid to burn hikes in it. It did let me down on my last trip when it got soaked in the rain but fortunately it dried by morning and a disaster was averted.

Thanks. Yeah, I think puffy jacket is definitely an area where people can save some money if they want to. I saw some really nice looking ones at Sam's club awhile back I would have got one if I didn't already have this jacket. I'm careful with this jacket. I had to walk through a briar patch with it on and that was sketchy haha.

Great review. If you’re looking for a good budget option, check out decathlon’s trek 100 backpacking jacket. They sell it for $80, but they do put it on sale from time to time. I got mine Black Friday ‘20 for $30.

$30 bucks is a great deal for a puffy jacket. Is that a synthetic? I've been looking for a synthetic lately and I was actually thinking about getting an Amazon basics heavier one for around $50 for winter time.

Eddie Bauer is my go to even though they outsource it’s still on of the best jackets out there for the price especially when getting on sale 😊

Great review! I have been trying to track down a light-weight down jacket. I tried Arc’teryx, Canada Goose, The North Face. Nothing there did it for me. I might as well get the MH Ghost Whisperer 2 since I have the vest and love it!

I am going to try more Arc’teryx gear. I tend to always go back to The North Face though.

Ive got black and army. Looks like all other colors are nla. Hope not discontinued.

I love my Ghost Whisperer(original version)A few years ago, I went to Minnesota in January. I own every heavy MH jacket made(Sub Zero, Nilas, Absolute Zero, Chillwave, Phantom) but I still took my Whisperer with me. It was about 10° and very windy. With an expedition weight Merino, and a Monkey Man underneath, the Whisperer kept me perfectly warm. The fabric is MUCH tougher than it looks. The zipper sucks, but so far, so good. I'd like to get the new 2.0 to add to my collection. BTW, I live in Virginia! I just have a MH jacket fetish. 🤷‍♂️

Oh wow you've got quite the collection there haha. Yeah if you layer it up right it can be a good piece for winter, 10°is pretty low. Virginia it looks like stays semi- mild in the winter from the times I have checked the weather. I have the triple crown hike on my list to hit at some point.

@@HikeIntoTheSunset I do. I did a lot of "retail therapy" after I got divorced. Jackets, and gear(mainly Mountain Hardwear gear) was what I was into at the time, so I bought A LOT of it. I had so much stuff coming, I didn't even know what was in the box being delivered. It was like Christmas every other day! Lol Yea, it's not too cold here in Virginia. I just moved here from the mountains of North Carolina. It was actually colder there due to altitude(-2° was the coldest it got while I lived there) I kind of wish I had moved further North. Minnesota, North/South Dakota, Colorado etc. The colder, the better. I'm weird, I know. Anyway, great video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. I enjoy learning about what I have, and seeing how other people use it. I look forward to seeing new reviews in the future. Have a good one! 😊

I've definitely been there on the ordering sprees lol. I was planning on heading down to the NC, Tennessee boarder in the smokies around Thanksgiving but the wind chills were around zero and I just wasn't ready for all that.

Nothing beats a solid lightweight good quality down jacket. I have two.. one is patched up with tape the other is relatively new. Both, warmth that could save my life.

@@HikeIntoTheSunset they really are. I always make sure my rain shell can fit over them before I commit to new rain gear to.. just in case. Good review man.. this MH one is appealing because of the hood and quality. I may have to get one

Already own the Arcteryx cerium hooded and TNF thermoball but just grabbed this jacket non hooded for 100 bucks. Couldn’t pass up the opportunity!!

Great review Derek! Do you know if they make a synthetic version? 50% off is an amazing deal! I always take a puffy with me all year round. I was going to leave it behind in summer 2021 but I’m glad I didn’t. It was late July early August on a trip it got down into the 40s. I probably would have been done but I was glad I had it.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they offer this jacket in a synthetic version. I love a good deal on expensive gear haha. I usually always wait for a deal if I think I can get one. And a puffy jacket is always a great insurance policy to take with you, let's you have that peace of mind if temps drop. I forgot to mention it but I wanted to let people know I saw a down jacket at Sam's club for like 50 that looked pretty nice, could be a good option for people starting out.

My God, did your jacket smell, as well? I bought mine brand new off Amazon, unused. When I opened it from the clear plastic bag it smelled REALLY bad.

The DWR smells for a bit once you wear for a few weeks it will dissipate

I think it was the bag, it didn't take long for the smell to leave the jacket once I took it out of the bag and let it breathe. All I gotta say is that smell was horrid.

Firstly that jacket is not $300. I see these everywhere for less than $200. Even if it was $300, unless you graduated with a education or sociology degree this jacket is not expensive.
