Mountain Biking Slickrock in Moab, Utah

I had a great time riding Slickrock in Moab with Seth from Seth's Bike Hacks, Alexander from The Singletrack Sampler and our gracious host and guide Randall. Slickrock is an all-time classic and always worth riding!

Great video, thank you. I returned to Slickrock last week, 21 years after riding it a few years in mid-90s. With your vid I relived the ride, particularly the heavy breathing and burning legs. After 60 years of riding, my knees provided “danger” feedback on the steep climbs, and being that I was clipped in, jumped off and pushed bike up. No sight-seeing, finished in 2:16, adequate after a long winter of little biking. There is not much in this world that compares to riding Slickrock, thanks for taking us along on your ride.

Every hill I came to on this ride left me feeling more defeated than the last until I got to the last mile marker and wanted to lay down and let the mountain take me. My body was basically one large cramp. I can't believe you guys made these climbs, excellent job through and through!

"Every man for himself", and then at about 14:10 they left Seth out there for the crows and coyotes. So why do they call it Slick Rock? Well, the early pioneers found that horses could not walk across it. They got no traction. But rubber tires stick to it like Velcro. Well, except for that one guy. Thanks for the video. I lost track how many times I rode that trail in the early to mid 2000s. Much much fun

Great video Brian! I can never get enough of the Slickrock Trail! 9:38: Natural Selection Viewpoint Motorcycle rider was out one day just riding up and down the sandstone fins and didn't realize he'd hit the canyon edge. And off he went.... 14:00 was fun on the tandem!!! Still have to ride the entire Slickrock on the tandem. Blew up two rear hubs on two different attempts and decided to stop there! This "measly" 10.5 mile loop is NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED! It will tax even the most experienced riders. It will be a big challenge for the intermediate rider. It will kill the novice. And it has. On several occasions. Bring more water than you need.* Be prepared. It will take you HOURS. But most importantly: Ride the practice loop first! If you crash or struggle on it, then probably best to NOT undertake the entire main loop ride. Just play around in and near the beginning or do a short out-n-back. I took the kids in '16 and although they were technically ready for the terrain, they weren't in shape for the whole loop. So we just played on it for a little while without attempting the entire ride. * Having more water than needed may save someone else's life. A father and 13 year old son ran out of water riding the loop. Despite getting water from other riders, the 13 year old died of exposure, exhaustion and dehydration - within sight of the parking lot! Take Moab seriously!
