Mountain Biking From Durango, Colorado to Moab, Utah

July 2021: For my brother's 50th birthday, we did a six-day, 200-mile hut-to-hut mountain bike trip from Durango, Colorado to Moab, Utah.
In loving memory of Sue.

Thank you for posting this. I did the same ride with friends and it was fun to remember certain sections of the trail. I definitely Remember some of the uphills. I too do photography so I had camera gear to lug with me but it was worth it. Thanks again

Right on. Thanks for stopping in. It was a great adventure. Definitely challenging at times. The heat in the desert was the hardest part for me.

Looks like you used a phone/gimbal combination at points and your GoPro. Would that be right??

Enjoyed that. Some of the sections looked quite technical; so hat’s off to you all for tackling them.

Sorry to hear about Sue, way way way too much of that going on lately! Looks like an amazing experience. P.S. How is your brothers rebuild coming along?

No rebuild yet. He's still looking at different options. The problem now is that there aren't bikes/bike parts available. Doesn't make sense to open a bike shop with no inventory.

Thanks for sharing, Sean. Looks like that was an unforgettable trip. Did you bring another camera besides your Gopro and/or phone?

I did bring a camera but was only able to shoot a couple of times on the fly (one pic is up on my IG page). Unfortunately, we weren't in the most photogenic locations during the most photogenic times of day and we had to keep moving to either finish in daylight and/or beat the heat. Not the ideal type of travel for photography.

An amazing seat-of-the-pants video; I'll ask (since I don't bike), is your speed accurately depicted in the video? The gnarly downhill sections are hair raising, to say the least. I feel off the bike several times and I wasn't even there!! Congratulations to everyone…and condolences for your loss.

Hey Sean and Crew, What a great trip thank you for sharing and putting this together we really appreciate it. There is so much that goes into it the time editing, setting up the shots that's exhausting in itself. It looked like you a trip of a life time. We are thinking of doing it but a shorter trip I myself am an avid rider "bike packing" but my family is from novice to beginner. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Would you suggest a full over a hardtail or a possible fat bike ? once again really appreciate your video editing what a great job.. Ken

Thanks Ken! This trip was fairly tough in spots so I wouldn't suggest it for novice/beginners. I would suggest contacting San Juan Huts to see what they recommend. They do have a slightly shorter/easier variation of this trip, but still not sure it would be right for beginners. sanjuanhuts.com/

Sorry to hear about your friend Sue. Looks like the trip was great though, I've ridden some in the Crested Butte area before but this route looks fantastic. Did you bring along any camera gear to shoot, or was it purely a bikepacking trip?

Makes sense. I've had the same challenges on some backpacking trips before. But at least it's nice to be able to take in the sights and maybe scout out potential photography-focused trips for the future.
