If you slide the rail towards the front of the lens you can get clearance for the camera to rotate 360 degrees.

Base on this review, I went out and purchased not only the recommended Dovetail, but also the riser to raise the rings. I can't wait to try it out. Thanks!!!!

I really wish the ones that came with mounts were flat but they aren't. That dovetail is perfect to adjustability.

I use a similar system from a company called Nitek. The down size y have and I think it’s the same with astrodym (correct me if I’m wrong) is that you cannot longer see the arrow that points to your aperture. So I have to select it by hearing the clicks or just checking the histogram to where I need it with the rest of the parameters already set

Yeah you do have to watch out a little bit and make sure you have the right one selected. It does get in the way of the F/stop selector.

I’ve had zero issues with dew in my Rok 135 using the stick hood and a few strap. With the hood mounted strap you’re heating the air in front of the lens keeping dew from forming but not creating any issues with image sharpness.

I haven't seen any issues with image sharpness, but the dew heater is mounted where it is because it's the best spot for that one :)

Okay, it wasn't until the other night that I tired it out. The gear was my SA with a modified Nikon D7500. Here is the minor issue(s) that I have with it. First, even with the risers, I was unable to fully rotate the camera. Maybe the D7500's body is bigger than, say my D5600, but I was unable to rotate it for it still hit the rail. I needed at least another 1/4 - 1/2" more clearance. Next, you have to set your F number before you place it into the cradle. Once in the cradle, forget about getting to it. Now on the issue of using a dew heater, what I did was wrap it around the hood. That seemed to have worked fine; for it was a frosty night.

This ring system can't suit all cameras :( I agree though about the positioning for the F stop numbers, bummer you can't change it. You might be a little too far back. Glad the dew heater worked out well. What did you shoot? Thanks for hanging around all this time!

How does one rotate the camera/lens for framing with an mounted EAF and its tight belt around the lens?

  • @AstroEscape

    @AstroEscape

    3 ай бұрын

I would recommend loosening the belt if you can, and framing first, or attaching it all with the intention of being framed correctly for your target.

I know some use heat inserts for threads but I found they are not really stronger.

Honestly I was able to put the Svbony dew shield on the lens dew shield and it kept things dew free enough for a night. Just set it to low and let it go.

    What are "heat inserts"?

  • @mikehardy8247

I answered my own question. It's called Google dah. So, knurled threaded insets that on inside have needed thread for accompanying fastener. And outside is knurled thread that once heated, is pressed into 3D printed part. Once Cooled, stays in place. I've been wanting to start 3D printeding. I should start!

I bought this. I want to use it with a MSM, and SA GTI. I know a little too much focal length considering MSM tracking accuracy. MSM uses ball head, so I want to use arca style bar, not vixen. It comes with metric nuts and Bolts that don't fit in arca slot (diameter of s too large.) 1/4" can't be substituted. They messed up, fricin' foreigners ( or Americans). Also the Dew heater thing. On a second note, anyone know of a substitute Dew shield for this lens? A Squirrel climbed my tripod and it tiped over, breaking shield. Everyone complains about it being flimsy crap anyway. It is.

Your idea for a custom use sounds awesome. I hope it works out for you! Hilariously enough though, you are the second case of wildlife tampering with gear I've heard of in a week. In my "Adding Landscape to Stellarium" Video, the director of that observatory I used in the video had birds make a nest in his home observatory.... on the objective lens of his telescope!

You get 90% of the rigidity at half the weight. PETG is tough stuff. It’s not like they’re carrying a 15lb scope. Don’t knock them till you try them.
