Motorguide Xi5 Trolling motor Installation - 80lb 60" 24v

Hey guys, just thought I'd do/share an installation video of my new Motorguide Electric trolling motor 80lb 60" 24v
I was a little concerned prior to starting the install, but now that it's done, it wasn't that hard at all. Pretty easy really, provided you have all the right gear before starting.
Hopefully this helps anyone else out there think of doing something similar.

Looks great and thanks for posting this! I wish this video was available a few years back when I did my install, it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. I also tried to reverse the quick release bracket as it made the most sense for my boat but ended up making a custom starboard plate to mount the bracket.

Hi Joe, thanks for the feedback. Yes, I was much happier with the little custom mount on mine, but its been a slow process for me with this setup, as I'm now changing my power source to Lithium Battery. Hope all goes well for you.

I have used this quick release bracket for 4 years and I am not happy with it. There’s too much movement. I finally decided to install the motor permanently with a 1/2 inch aluminum plate.

So far, I don't have any issues with this quick release bracket, so I'll keep going with it. Thanks for the feed back.

Ah ah, I had the same problem. Connected the power and expected the power light on.. I thought the motor is dead until I deploy it. It was some anxious moments. I bought a second hand boat could not test until I got a new battery. I want to take out the prop. I removed the nut but could not pull the prop out. Should the prop just slay out or i need to unclip something? Thanks in advance!

Hey JT, yep we were getting worried when no lights were coming on. We ending up checking all wiring several times and making sure we were getting power to motor. I haven't removed my prop, one would would imagine it should just slide off once nut removed. Apologies for the late reply, thanks for watching.

Mate can I ask how you linked the circuit breaker. Was the load side to batteries and the line to the trolling motor. Also where did you link the isolator switch any help would be appreciated cheers

Hi Mark, most circuit breakers will have "Aux / Load on one end and Bat/Line on the other. So load /Aux to trolling motor and bat/line to battery. My Isolator switch runs on the negative cable coming from the trolling motor. So negative from trolling motor into one side of Iso switch then out the other side to negative battery terminal. Hope this helps and is understandable.
