Awesome paint job! You should be proud of it. A small advice for next time: regarding the template you made for the red part, you can trace it, fold in half and retrace it so it is 100% symmetrical.
Fantastic job but here's a bit of advice on using acids. Always follow it up with mixed water and BAKING SODA to then neutralize it. VERY important. Also when using strong acid you have to be quick or it not only eats the metal but it changes the chemical make up of it. I put a pair of rusty vise grips in muriatic acid once and the next day after restoring it and using it it BROKE in half ! Imagine what it does to sheet metal.
Awesome bro. Little advise. I would stop using paint thinner as a pre paint solvent. Use isopropyl alcohol. Or a can of spray glass cleaner. Just my .02. Both of these evaporate quickly with no residue.. all love bud
Turned out decent, hope it performs as well as it looks. I think it will. Good Job!
That goofy tool you used to apply the bondo actually worked well on the large dents, the rigid straight edge served you well to allow the bondo to fill up the dent
I want to give a HUGE thanks to my patrons: Mackenzie Warnick, Griffin Long, Chad Blevins. To help me buy parts for this motorcycle please click here: www.patreon.com/GoldGuy
There are many who would argue that you were correct to prime first, and then fill. Filler straight to bare metal could allow rust to form under the Bondo and cause it to lift. Primer first guarantees all your bare metal stays rust free and should still give the Bondo a great surface to adhere to.
Nice job guy. Lot of work for sure. I used to think my paint guy was a little expensive at $1500 Dollars for tank and fenders on the Triumphs I restore. Till he took a video of the whole procedure and I saw the hours of work involved.RMM
That gas tank is a work of art!
Really nice job. That does look fantastic. 👍👍
This Video is super helpful to me. I just had a 1975 Yamaha TT 500 Gifted to me. It needs a TON of work so saving this video for when the tank restoration part comes around.
Damn fine paint job mason 👌
That looks stunning, you did a fine job on that one!

Awesome job - ty for sharing!
Brilliant mate your painting has come along way exceptionally good job mate 👍
Looks great!
Nicely done fella 👏
Use sandable filler primer after the bondo to sand out all the little imperfections then sealer primer before base coat. Dupli-Color makes these products as well.
dude, this looks AWESOME love to see you working cheers!
Excellent work 👌
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful work mate!
Great work, man. I´m impressed.
Well-done m8 you pulled it off looks great 👍 👌 don't worry about the bondo it will be fine

Hell yeah, thanks Bruv.
Well done. Beside the bondo “oops” that rattle can paint job looks great. Curious on how that tank sealer holds up.
It's funny this came up on my play list but I also have a 1976 MT250 the bike itself is in mint condition other than the gas tank needs to be refreshed it has some staining and some small scratches. But that is an outstanding job on the tank with Diy materials very nice clear coat finish
wow, really amazong result !!!!!! I have to do mine for the Kawasaki KE125 1978, so thanks !
Nice job.
great vid GG.

i would never guessed that rattle cans could even touch gun paint....i don't understand why cleaning the tank didn't include BBs.
It turned out great. That 2 part clear coat in a can is good stuff. I think you could have popped 90 percent of those dents out. I'll take a long tire spoon and cover the end in a few layers of cloth tape to make it a softer edge.... then I go into the tank with the iron and try to pop out the dent from the inside.

Crazy how much that suff eats but not plastic???
👏 👏 👏
Dude that is a shit serious awesome resto job on that tank. I was looking at it being hyper critical but you know what? Factory Honda tanks aren't better than yours. At least not classic ones like that. I'm thinking about sending you 12 of my tanks to restore! Well done, can't wait to see the rest of the bike.
😎👍😎
Por 15 stands for pour over rust 15th formula
Nice work. The tank looks beautiful. Has the paint held up to any fuel spills? Thanks. I will go poke around on your channel now. Lots of 2 stroke restomod stuff on my channel.

Yeah the paint held up great to a few fuel spills and then I sold the bike.
Hello GG love your videos. I have three MTs. A 125 and two 250s. The 125 is a gem, but I feel you pain with the 250! I can’t get one of them to run right and the other is a future project. The question I have for you is when you coated your tank with POR15, did you have to remove the petcock? Thank you. Your fan Dave.
I’m attempting to seal the inside of my Yamaha fz8 fuel tank. And I’m actually worried about using a tank sealer due to the fact there isn’t a drain hole besides the gas vents
Using muriatic acid will clean your rusted motorcycle tank like nothing else, Get safety equipment gloves goggles and have good ventilation,
FaN*TaSTiC! On your next bike if needed? ~ theres lot of ways 2 pop them dents out b4 bondo less product & less labor = more room for gas b4 it gets to $8bucs a Gal. ✌😎UT from 💔 🇺🇸
The tank looks fantastic. I’m thinking of doing the same, what color are you using for the gray? You keep saying silver, is that what’s on the can? Great job!
Hi. Nice work. What is the id# on the back of the can of the silver your using? Thanks.
awesome vid dude, tank came out great, definitely gonna come in handy when I attempt to repaint my bikes tank (Suzuki TS400) do you plan on reinstalling all the electronics like the turn signals and tail lights to hopefully get it road legal again?
@GoldGuyRides

Thank you! Yes I do plan on installing all the lighting and getting it road legal again!

dude that's awesome, can't wait to see her back in action, just recently bought myself a Suzuki TS250, not the fastest things but god are they fun
Do you still have the Captain America Honda? That clear coat would protect that distressed paint job on the bike. That is if it comes in a matt or semi gloss finish. The tank does look brand new. Great job!!

Yes I do have it! I actually did clear coat that tank with this stuff after the video! Thanks for the great idea!
im trying to restore my kr250's gas tank but i cant find any original decals for it, kind of annoying especially since my bikes only like 20 years old

I have a question : when you use the muriatic acid, do you leave the fuel tap on the tank? Because it's aluminum and muriatic acid can dissolve it.
@GoldGuyRides
Жыл бұрын
I only leave the fuel tap on if I plan on replacing it anyways. If it's a new one then cut a rectangle out of steel and tighten it on with some gasket sealant and send it. The acid will dissolve the petcock btw.
Howd you avoid the flash rusting after the hair dryer??
@GoldGuyRides
8 ай бұрын
Work very quickly
Did you sand the paint before clear ?
@GoldGuyRides
13 күн бұрын
The orange yes but the silver no since it's a metallic paint and you really shouldn't sand those much.
Why would u bondo those dents? Could've popped them out
Can I ask what the temp was in your garage while painting?
@GoldGuyRides
Жыл бұрын
It was about 70 degeees
Why not remove the dents ?
@GoldGuyRides
2 жыл бұрын
How do you remove them? I've never done that.
I bet your toyota over there got painted too hah
@GoldGuyRides
Жыл бұрын
No but it definitely needs it 😂
Looks really good, how's the por 15 liner holding up?
@GoldGuyRides
Жыл бұрын
It seems to be going up alright.
Once you get this bike restored. You should use it to teach your girlfriend to ride and it could be her first bike.
you need to marry a woman that let's one borrow a hair dryer!
Let’s be honest. The striping is pretty awful. Looks at the lines. They are all over the place.
That tank sealer is shit,,too many bikes come in and the liner is failed,,makes the rust come back and forth at worse ,,,like laying a blanket on a wet surface,,,,rust for sure
Wrong!! No Bondo goes over primer don’t say it’s wrong bare metal is wrong!!!! Dam near puked when you said that I’m a professional painter that’s proper spec just so you know.
