Motherland

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

As the world still remains in lockdown due to the pandemic, I will miss an annual Summer trip to my motherland. By looking through my video clips I can travel there at any time. As so many of you wonder where I come from, the clips will give you a glimpse into the place I was born and the things I get up to when I return.
The 'forbidden berries' I mention in the video are Blackcurrants. They are very popular in Europe but are still banned in parts of the USA due to posing a threat to the logging industry. I enjoy them very much in every form they are used there.
The video is also a tribute to my Dad, who very sadly passed away in January 2020. He was a wonderful father, an inventor, a gardener, a story teller, and a jokester. We will miss him greatly.

Sorry to see this video of your father's passing. No matter how old they get, it's still a loss, expected or not. I spent a couple of years working in Europe. I can attest that pizza baked on a clay or stone oven over a wood flamed fire is absolutely amazing. The potato dumplings that you get in Germany with Sauerbraten or the pork with sauerkraut is to die for. Time to return to the States to your fur friend family. Well done. PS now you have me looking at the German Deli website for items I've missed.

So very sorry about your father. One day they are here talking, laughing, sometimes singing, then, boom. Inexplicably they are gone! How could this be? Papa is supposed to be there for you, forever. Then, he is taken before you can wink, before you can cry out, don't go Dad. Remember all the precious moments you enjoyed with him for those memories will take you far in your ability to heal. Those memories will hold you and you will heal because of them. God bless you and your family, your Dad and all whose hearts he has touched. He is in a wonderful, blessed place today waiting for you at your time.

WHAT a lovely. virtual visit You brought me on, to Your Beloved Motherland, Lithuania! I spent my first 22 years on earth in Sweden - and grew up on Black Currant berries (as well as red and white currant berries...), while spending part of every summer at my family's summer residence (on a lake...) in the Swedish countryside... Your beautiful videos reminds me of those happy times... When things get too hectic here, I just close my eyes and think of that Special place... Yes, this year the world seems upside down (with this pandemic...) - but hopefully, You'll be going back for Your yearly summer visit next year... I'm so sorry for Your loss - my heart goes out to You, and Your family... may You find comfort and strength by leaning on each other, during this difficult time...💜 When our Love for another runs deep - so does our pain... THANK You again, for Sharing yet another lovely clip with all of us...💕 💙💛🌹💜🍎🇺🇸

Then we have been neighbors over the Baltic Sea at sometime, Darius. I give you my condolences from a rainy Sweden and also thank you for your always beautiful cinematic videos. We have also different names, contents and varieties on this "Potato Dumplings" here from all regions in Sweden. My origin is from Norrbotten/NorthBothnia in Sweden and therefor i love Pitepalt. [Potatoes, Wheatflour, Barleymeal, Salt and a filling of Belly pork. Served with Lingon Berries and melt Butter] Yummy food for a hardworking logger! I can't really see how Black Currant can be dangerous for forests!!! We are a forest country in Sweden and Currants don't spread there. I have only wild Raspberries where i live in middle part of Sweden now and doing no harm. In my countryside orchard I have 18 Black Currant bushes since probably some hundred years ago and also a lot of Red and White and also Gooseberries. I can't see any seeds spread by birds anywhere in forest! [The farm begun to pay tax to the King and Church 1423, but is probably older from before Viking age on old sea bottom now 27 m over Baltic sea level.]

Greetings from Australia again. Lithuania looks very beautiful. I love how you can bicycle right to the beach. All the wonderful food right at your fingertips. I'm sorry for the loss of your dad. It's very hard, I know, I lost my mum last year at 87. Hope to see some more beautiful scenery soon from you, either in Lithuania or Wyoming. Susan

I am sorry to hear your loss, my deepest condolences to you and your family Mr. Darius. I have been to Lithuania\Vilnius two times and it is a very beautiful city with a lovely old town, famous Uzupis Republic, perfect pizza restaurants and garlic breads. People are very nice, kind and helpful. Also, I am 6'8" tall and I have to admit that it is the only place that I feel myself as a normal human being:)

A book featuring your old world Lithuanian recipes, wood working shop and all the other things that you do to keep your beautiful home and land in top order, and pointers on caring for your animals. That, in and of it self would be encyclopedia sized, you have so many different animals, both domesticated and wild, that you take care of/help, with lovely pictures of the animals, dinners, land on which you live. And your homeland traditions.

My father was also an inventor and my mother also good with the garden and nature and animals. They have been gone since 1981, and 2 weeks ago with my brother, we celebrated our Dad’s (103rd) birthday with a call. Every way they lived brings a memory that echoes today and every day. As you look around yourself you can see and feel their influence in your life. That is how you live out their legacy. They would be proud of how you live your life, and what you share with all of us. The memories and the echoes today are comfort for your missing them. I hope in 2021 you will be able to travel back to there and revisit the places and times and people you love. 💞 P.S. I bet your Dad would have loved Nanny’s ‘Trojan Mouse’.

Homemade weedwacker: genius! Sorry to hear about your father passing. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I see now where you get your skills and love for nature from. It’s cool to see that your upbringing reflects in your land back in the States (it’s beautiful!).
