That lamb seemed to not recognize his mom at first 😂. Those haircuts looked uneven, but I guess the importance is more getting that excess wool off than making sure they look nice

although watching this i think the sheers need oil and to be sharpened, i think there to dull. im guessing this cause of a scene where there sheering the belly which is the easiest part and the shears dont seem to be cutting the wool to well

I was hoping other people noticed too... I've seen plenty of shearings also in person and I've never seen very many bleed and when they do get a knick it's relatively small. Not like the pretty decent spot seen on the 2nd sheep to be sheared. I'm sure that hurts.

Shearing sheep is like magic. I've tried doing it a few times and still don't understand how they do it without cutting the sheep to pieces. Years of practice and a special touch I'm guessing.

Our sheep are bred for the wool production. A year’s growth of wool yields 12-16”. In order to have a more desirable fiber and a cleaner lambing season we have the first shearing in April and the second shearing in late August. If we didn’t they would not be able to get pregnant because they would have 6-8” of wool in the way…made that mistake only once!

Unfortunately I think this is all the training he will get...just on the job practice. I literally just watched a video from the sheep game and he said you should take an actual course/class every year for at least the first 5 years. This guy cuts every sheep in the same spot on their belly or chest. It seems it's from using the shears as leverage to move the sheep into position...or at the very least it's accidental, but he always shoves them just so & the clippers are still running and bam! There's a gash afterwards. :( He needs to learn a better way to maneuver them without cutting them up.

Probably not a brand new blade on the sheers. Most of the time its the same as nicking yourself while you shave but that second one was cut pretty bad. You will see much worse on an actual farm where dudes are sheering 400+ sheep in a day.

Why was the shearer being so rough with the poor sheep? I have seen professional shearers before and they are gentle with the sheep, Llamas and Alpacas, no one else I have seen treated the sheep so roughly or tore chunks out of the fleece while they were.shearing the sheep. Maybe the shelter was self taught or possibly nervous of being filmed but either way they were rough on the sheep. There was no connection with the poor animal, only dominance and gruff handling. I wouldn't let them shear my sheep if I had any. I've even seen women shearers that were more compassionate towards the animal than this shearer was. I didn't enjoy watching this man shear the animals on the video.
