    If you need any further convincing heres a list of other similarities between Herc and Rapunzel: Both were kidnapped at birth Both have an overwhelming belief that they were meant for something greater Both meet a good looking counterpart with questionable morals They both look to the stars (or floating lanterns interpreted as stars) for answers Each end up with a equine companion Both carry with them a symbol of their family Both have their first kiss with the morally questionable person interrupted Said person also sacrifices themselves to save Herc and Rapunzel Herc and Rapunzel then also use their glowing powers to return the favor After which they are treated to family reunion and finally a kiss

    What if instead of the flower growing from where Hercules descended, what if it grew where he was buried? Meg and Herc explore the world a bit like the Odyssey and end up in “Germany”, Herc dies on the journey and Meg buries him, and upon returning to grieve she sees a flower growing from his grave that glows with the same immortality he gave up. She takes it to be one last gift from Herc to her and when the royals take the flower for medicine she sees it as stealing Herc’s wishes from her.

The Olympians turned Crocus into the saffron flower after accidentally being killed by Hermes. Dionysus turned Ampelos, a handsome young satyr-boy, into the first vine plant when he was killed by a wild bull. So yeah, its a very strong reoccurring theme when it comes to greek mythology. I also like the symbolism of when mother Gothel dies. The glowing power fades away, Meg loses the last remaining part of Hercules, and she grows old and dies. However, the healing and immortality hasn’t completely gone away, it just shows up as Hercules’ tears - his sadness for Meg and who she became.

And the flower was used to keep both Meg AND Cassandra alive, we know the flower keeps mother gothel looking young, so what if it keeps people looking/maybe even mentally being the age they started using it at? Cassandra could have been an infant for centuries. Eventually, Meg decides its too dangerous to keep bringing Cassandra to the flower with her, as a crying baby isnt exactly subtle or a good buddy on a trip to a place you want hidden, and starts going by herself to use the flower. ALSO the moonstone was kind of implied to kill anyone who attempted to use it and sort of being a demigod could explain why cassandra wasnt obliterated by it.

    In greek history, it’s widely accepted that Greek myths don’t take place in Ancient Greece, but in the society that came before them and before the Greek Dark Ages, Mycenaean Greece, so connecting the very ancient Mycenaean Greece civilization to a fairy tale era of somewhere vaguely based on Germany is already a big stretch, but I’ve always found Tangled had weird connections to Greek Mythology since Apollo, the sun god, was also a god of prophecy and healing, as well as music (which we know Rapunzel loves)

    Not forgetting, of course, that Meg has actually DIED before, and Hercules rescued her from the underworld. If she can't rescue him in turn, changing the fates' design as he did for her, she'd likely feel guilt and eventual bitterness ('I didn't ASK to be saved; I didn't ask to go through the pain of losing another man I loved. You left me, too. All men leave...') Also, she knows how much the underworld sucks, so I don't suppose she'd want to go back there any time soon (/any time at all) and would likely be even less inclined to die than the rest of us

    Others have already pointed out why the series contradicts this, but I would like to point out that Cassandra is a Greek name, which I always found strange in a German fairy tale. Not a huge selling point, but it is convenient that Gothel chose a greek name for her daughter. If this theory was true, however, Hercules would not be Cassandra's father. He would have died hundreds or thousands of years ago, so there would have had to be another man.

    @@musicsperfume perhaps human misinterpreted it, or a loss of translation! Perhaps as people from greece throughout the years went about telling the tale of Hercules, and how a drop of sunlight fell from the sky in night, those who thought it impossible changed it to moonlight, and eventually as the sunflower and the moonstone were discovered, the entire story morphed to it being two drops instead of one. Or People just misunderstood since it said that both descended, one would think separately, but in truth it was in one as hercules! Let me explain hear me out: the Sundrop Flower and Moonstone Opal descended to Earth thousands of years previously, the result of an ancient great heavenly power, having then divided into two opposing forces. Heracles in death would divide into two because he is not fully mortal he is technically a demi-god. His immortal half and his mortal half would divide as it does in the real myth, and because Disney doesn’t really like clinging to the real mythology. Instead of his mortal half descending into the underworld and his immortal half rising to Olympus (to weirdly marry his half-sister). Because he rejected his status, his soul remains on earth, and soon enough his immortality becomes the sun flower, and his mortality becomes the moonstone. The sunflower provides immortality, longevity, and healing which of course is immortality, and something that the Greek immortals are capable of. While the Moonstone has Power over death, ruin, decay, destruction, and Drain the life-force and vital essence from living thing, from plants to people. Which is actually pretty closely related to Mortality and being Human. Such as needing the essence of plants (crops!) to survive, along with being able to die, and cause irreversible ruin, decay, and destruction which in greek myth is usually left for the immortals to come and fix. Because the moonstone/ Hercule’s mortal side longs to be reconnected with the immortal side, it could be actively looking and sense when the immortal half is near. Idk that’s my guess, but this myth does make a lot of sense

    As much as I’d like to believe this theory, the existence of Tangled: the Series kinda disproves it. The show establishes the extended lore of the sundrop and that it actually has a counterpart in the moonstone. It also establishes that Gothel was a pupil of an ancient engineer and researcher named Lord Demanitus who was researching the two magic items and how they worked and everything. Gothel, along with Demanitus’ other students, betrayed him and resurrected his enemy, Zhan Tiri who wanted to use the combined magic to destroy Corona. I think it’s implied that Gothel also betrayed Zhan Tiri by never reporting that the sundrop had been found and she used it to keep herself young because she’s just wholly selfish that way. It should also be noted that the king of Corona did know that taking the sundrop would upset the balance and awaken the darkness contained within the moonstone but he was willing to do whatever it took to save his wife and unborn daughter but honestly the lore is way too complicated to explain in a single comment so just watch the show

An ancient scientist was studying the two powers with his pupils whom eventually betrayed him and its heavily implied that one the pupils was Mother Gothel. So there's a tiny issue with this theory. Tangled the series. Unfortunately this theory just doesn't hold up with the information we are given in the show. Firstly there's the origin of the sundrop. (Spoilers for the series btw, go watch it it's really good) We know from the show that the sundrop was an actual drop that fell from the sky after a mysterious event in the heavens split it from the moonstone. The sundrop became the golden flower, and the moonstone became an opal that grew a kingdom around itself. This directly conflicts with the theory that the flower grew from where Hercules landed on Earth. This also means that the powers of Hercules and the Greek gods have nothing to do with the powers of the sundrop and moonstone and they aren't related in any way. If the flower doesn't have anything to do with Hercules, then we have no reason to believe that Meg would somehow find it after Hercules died or that she would even know something like that existed. Then there also the issue of the flower's location, where we know it's very close to the kingdom of Corona, aka not in Greece. We can also explain Mother Gothel's behaviour regarding saving Eugene, or telling Rapunzel how fast he would leave her, because we know that Gothel had to raise a daughter all by herself, implying there was some man in the past that left or died (and no, it can't be Hercules, the genetics just don't line up). Anyway this is a fun theory, especially if you only look at the movies, but unfortunately the lore of Tangled just doesn't support it.

    I think the reason she's so jaded about love again is because Herc left her. It's a bit dark, but I imagine Meg spent her youth, years of her life with Hercules, only for him to run off with a younger woman. So she became obsessed with regaining her own youth, taking back the years that he "stole" from her.

  • @chelbanna

    @chelbanna

    I agree! Or, perhaps as Meg studied under Zhan Tiri (as other people mentioned Mother Gothel did in the series to originally find the Sun drop and moonstone), Hercules as a hero was disgusted with this manipulation of the natural order of things. She could have been trying to "regain the immortality" he gave up to be with her, but Hercules learned enough in the movie to be mature enough to accept the agreement he made. He agreed to be mortal and to die in order to be with Meg; it would be wrong for him to hurt his parents by trying to cheat the system. So, he leaves her and eventually dies during a heroic effort, leaving Meg with a hatred of men and only her vanity to hold on to. After all, Meg herself is quite vain- she has no problem using her feminine wiles to control others for Hades, and she knows she can. So why stop if you have immortality?

    Re-commenting my theory from the Tangled Video in the card "i"... I still think its plausible My theory is maybe in some scenario when Hercules is dying or has no choice but to become immortal and leave Meg down on earth (because in the end of the movie he didn't choose to become a God), but in return Hecules asked one God in particular to leave some power for Meg, he asks Apollo, the God of the SUN and HEALING, to create that flower, and the reason I am theorizing on why that said power is in a form of a flower and not actually power is because if you look into Greek Mythology you'll see that there are a lot of plants based off of God's experiences, especially Apollo, from his birth to his boy crushes, and male enemies, they all represent a similar plant and color, YELLOW FLOWERS, and why did Eugene said "Golden Flower" Oh I don't know maybe because Apollo and Artemis' significant colors is/are Yellow/Gold, or the fact that their blood (ichor) is also color Gold (Sarcastic at this line). A lot of bells ringing at this point. So I theorize that the Magic Golden Flower was meant for Meg AKA Mother Gothel, and Hercules gave her that song because Apollo is also the God of Music and Poetry, hence the deep meaning behind the lyrics of the special song So my theory is that when Hercules needed to leave Meg/Mother Gothel down on earth while he lives an immortal life, but he can't just go back down to earth with Meg, it's a choice Hercules has to choose either he has to live immortally but can't see Meg or he has to die and leave Meg/Mother Gothel with another broken heart, thus he chose to live but left some power for Meg, the Magic Golden Flower, to work out their immortal, long distance relationship. So he asks Apollo the God of the Sun, Healing, and Music, to grant his request. Thus his request granted, and Apollo dropped that drop of "sunshine" with healing powers. Though since Hercules also has no choice but to agree not to make contact to the world, it would probably take him time to slip through his Father's rules (Zeus), and when he finally did he gives Meg/Mother Gothel the song for the flower, yet she has aged and probably took more time to travel from Greece to Germany and more time to actually find the flower, this is the time where Meg is now known as Mother Gothel, which I actually believe I mean you don't get that Hip and Bad Girl attitude from anywhere except from a horrible ex-boyfriend and Hades Though it's just a theory. Not much evidence on the deal with Hercules becoming Immortal and have no contact with anything on Earth but everything seems to fit in. [EDITED] It was also hard to base the Gods' attitude from this movie, considering that all the other Greek Mythology based movies/books (PJO, HOO, Clash/Wrath of the Titans, etc., and Greek Mythology in General) the Gods are REALLY uptight, I mean they don't even care about the mortals, or the fact that in the original legend of Hercules that Hera cursed him into killing his own wife and two sons, so this is where I base the "No contact on Earth" part... What I can say is, as time passed and the Gods somehow get as cranky and uptight as the people in Thebes, then we can say why wouldn't the Gods prevent any more contact with the mortals... But then again that's all I got... Thanks for the likes, I didn't think that it would actually get likes truly grateful 😄😄

    Well, that's why villains are villains: typically, villains are agents of chaos, while heroes are agents of law (typically a personal law, but still a set of rules regardless). Villains don't care about how the world views them, so they do whatever they want, resulting in these bombastic pieces. Meanwhile, heroes have to demonstrate restraint (see Superman's "world of cardboard" speech), so their songs have to be a lot less raw. Of course you can have a very raw song for a hero, but those tend to be more emotional than badass. As for the heroes who are agents of chaos, they tend to lean more towards anti-hero than the paragons I'm referring to, and thus have more freedom with their actions (although I totally have a crush on Steve Rogers), as well as their songs being allowed to be more imposing as they're somewhat seen as intimidating and scary because of the lengths they'll go to

    There are just so many things wrong with this theory once you watch Tangled: The Series. 1. Mother Gothel is only supposed to be 400 years old. Now Tangled is set in 1834 which means Gothel was born in 1434 and the reign of the Greek empire ended in 146 B.C 2. The sun drop is not made of actual sun, rather it's a separate entity in the cosmos, comprised of it and the moon stone, (which no is not made of a drop of moon light as that's ridiculous you can't have a drop of light and the moon's light is only a reflection of the sun's) and the two were separated when they fell to earth. 3. In Tangled: Before Ever After, Rapunzel and her handmaid Cassandra make it from the castle, to where the flower was, and back in one night, on only horseback which is impossible to do when you have over 1,800km to cover. 4. Gothel knows the words to the song and the location of the flower because she was a disciple of the sorcerers Lord Demanitis and Zhan Tiri who studied the flower and stone for years until they managed to figure out the songs before they betrayed each other. *MAJOR SPOILERS HERE* 5. If Gothel/Meg sang to the flower to bring back Hercules because she was so loyal to him, why would she have her daughter Cassandra with another man. Also if Gothel was Meg why would she move to Germany, she would need to make periodic trips to flower annually, and if you say she lived in Greece before she kidnap Rapunzel why would she raise her in Germany as opposed to 1,800km away There's also the fact that they look and sound completely different.
