I also saw Motorhead on this tour but at Hammy Ode. I was really delighted to see Sword as support, great band, Canadian. Debut album called Metallized and follow up, Sweet Dreams both excellent and we'll worth checking out.

I was in the US Army stationed in a smaller sized town called Schwaebisch Hall in W. Germany in 87. I couldn't believe i saw posters in town announcing MOTORHEAD was coming in December to play a small sportsplatz venue. I had been huge fan since hearing No Sleep Till Hammersmith back in 81. On the bill was King Diamond and Destruction. Me and my buddy were Front Row. To this day, it was the LOUDEST concert ever. My ears rang for the next 3 days I believe. I remember buying the T shirt. Great album. One of my favorite Motorhead releases.

This was one of my favorite shows... I saw them open for Megadeth and Alice Cooper (joined by GnR members for Under My Wheels) at Long Beach Arena (California). Seeing one of my favorites live was a highlight "Stone Deaf in the U.S.A.. The backstage party was amazing. Lemmy chatting W/Hetfield, Lars singing folk songs w/King Diamond and many many others. Great album/Great live show that tour."

I’m with Jammo on this one. Best things about Motörhead were the logo and the stories.

Brilliant guys . I think Lemmy would tell you ' We're not heavy metal young man ' . Didn't they look young ? Yeah - 37 years ago 😉 . Love these episodes ... Funnily enough Pete Gill is / was a carp angler and I met him at a carp show late eighties. As a naive 25 year old I was expecting a head to toe leathered metal god .... he was in a brown leather jacket , brown casual trousers and brogues - 😲😲 . WTF ... the innocence of youth eh 🙊🙊😊

Ha - that’s brilliant! We loved to think they are on full rock mode 100% of the time - we were!! 😅. Thanks for the kind words. Tell your friends ! Keep the ‘Tales’ coming!!

Funny that Lemmy wasn't fond of that album (I think he said they recorded it too quickly or something). It is my favourite, and my first recommendation when someone wants to discover Motörhead. Such a gem!

Saw the Donington 1986 performance and all the shenanigans that ensued. Didn't see this tour and only heard Eat The Rich and Cradle To The Grave being on the films Eat The Rich and The Decline Of The Western Civilization Part 2(The Metal Year's) but great recollection by you guys again. 🤘♠️

My favourite Motörhead record! Wurzel lasted until 1995 not 2004! He left after the Sacrifice album.

That is one heck of a recollection; don't blame them for walking off stage but who pays money to throw shit at people giving a show. Love the fact some of you met Lemmy several times, notably in London, which leads me to this question - were you present when Lemmy threw his drink over Max Cavalier one night? Look forward to the next episode.

@@talesfromthepowerage Max had said so himself, when Sepultura had begun to make themselves known in the UK, he badgered Lemmy who was probably on a fruit machine and had a gutful. Max went back to his then band mates saying that he had been baptized by the man. The story is on line.

I got this single on original vinyl...and also the original album on vinyl, cassette and CD..i'm a big MOTORHEAD fan...MOTORHEAD is the biggest Rock'n'Roll band off all times !...not a Heavy Metal band at all...Heavy Rock if you want...but not a Heavy Metal band.

Sounds like you guys had one hell of a night, I would have gone nuts if I was there if they walked off. I think if you lot were a bit older you would have reacted a bit differently. I was 22 then ( Iam 59 today, 25 May) I went to this tour in Cardiff Saint David`s Hall, I missed most of Sword as I finished work at 7 o`clock back then. Motorhead were great in Cardiff, they played there the year before with Zodiac Mindwarp as support. The album is a bit of a peaks & valleys album as you have said, Phil has said it`s not one of their best. The producer was actually an engineer not a proper producer, so the band produced most of it. I got my copy free, one of my mates bout it on cassette & didn`t like it so I got it of him for nothing. I also have it on CD, It`s an expended version from 2006 on Sanctuary records. It`s a double disc, the second disc has two extra tracks ,Cradle to the Grave & Just `cos you got the power, plus the Donington `86 set. The night in Reading wasn`t all bad for you as you met the band & had a good experience with them. I met them first in1980, in Cardiff after a gig & got autographs, I also met Lemmy again back stage at the Reading Festival in 1982, he was with Bruce, Janick & Joe Brown, we had a good chat. Phil Campbell`s a top man & a bit crazy, I first met him in 1993 he started playing a pub near me in Maesteg Wales on Sunday mornings with some of his mates, amazing times. He invited us to a party at his house once, a brilliant night. I don`t see him that much now, but he got me & my mates in to see Hawkwind & his band ( do you like his new band ?) at Chepstow Castle back in August on the guest list. A couple of questions for you. Did any of you guys go to Wembley last week to see Oxford United ?, & where`s Gappy`s hair gone? Great show, I had never heard about what went on in Reading until this, if I see Phil I`ll ask him about it. Why don`t you get in touch with him or his sons on facebook & get him on the show. Cheers guys. 🤘🎸🐑
