🇸🇾 Street Food in Damascus: • First Time in Syria!! ...
Today was a beautiful and also difficult day in Syria. We traveled all the way from Damascus to Aleppo in Northern Syria - along the way we saw so much war destruction, met incredible people, saw historical sites, and ate some delicious food. Today I’m sharing with you our food road trip in Syria.
► Thank you to Rami from Syrian Guides: syrianguides.com/
Here’s what we did:
Maaloula - After about an hour drive from Damascus, we arrived at the mountain town of Maaloula (where they still speak Aramaic), with so much history. First stop we went to Maaloula Manakeesh to eat some Manakeesh. Total price - 125,000 SYP ($8.33) for everything
Shuaa Restaurant - Along the highway we stopped to eat at this famous lamb restaurant. Total price - 350,000 SYP ($23.33) for everything
We continued driving to Homs, a city that was unfortunately hit very hard by the war. But people were in high spirits and we were greeted with kindness and hospitality.
Hama Lamp Kunafa - Finally we continued our journey to Hama, to eat a few essential Syrian foods in this historical city. We mainly tried batersh - roasted eggplant, ghee fried lamb. Total price - 550,000 SYP ($36.66) for everything
► Huge thank you to Rami, from Syrian Guides (syrianguides.com/), he arranged my entire trip to Syria. Get in touch with him for an amazing tour in Syria!

I am inspired by this one. I want to create a society where cooks and chefs from every country assemble in one building (like the UN), each with ambassadors who are also chefs and cooks, to set up embassies in every country, which are actually cooking schools, who insist that, for example, Italian Embassy (cooking school) serve Italian food to the politicians of, let's say, Iran. Have all the Iranian politicians gorge on Italian food. A result, a full belly will influence the politicians to change laws and create policies to better the citizen's lot. I feel that all the trouble in the world is caused because military and politicians haven't had a good meal!!! A full belly means that the person will want to rest. A full belly means they will have good will toward everybody.
I have visited many country in my life, but when people ask me witch country did you prefer ? I always say Syria, it was in 2006.
This food looks absolutely beautiful. The strength of the Syrian ppl in the face of war is awe inspiring. Love to Syria. X
Syria has risen like the Phoenix to continue with fantastic food and the graces of good hospitality. I am amazed! I am from East Berlin. This video reminded me of places all over Berlin that were not rebuilt. It is a marvel to see people living in a beautiful reconstruction alongside of places that still need rebuilding. And within this surreal mix is food and hospitality. The human spirit lives and rebuilds. This video is grand. It features a 3000 year old technology alongside of 325 A.D church, alongside of a reconstructed mosque. My eyes are bedazzled!!!
Wow, I visited Syria 2004 when it still calm and peaceful .I visited Maalula before such an incredible place

I have MS and my first neurologist, the one who figured it out was named Dr. Amr Al' Hariri. Within a week of the start of the Civil War in Syria he closed his office and disappeared. I assume to go back to his homeland to help his countrymen with the nerve gas that was illegally used there. I miss him as a doctor, but He absolutely did the right thing. I dearly hope that he is still alive and enjoying some of that great food. Thank you good doctor!

I've said it on so many of your videos. But, Mark... you really do God's work. Showing everything about the people of where you travel, and not just what the news wants us to know about them (as if their lives, their entire history, could be summed up in just a few shallow words). When you show the people, being simply people; when you show the food and love of life; when you show the resilience and the perseverance; it is not only eye opening, it is truly spiritual. I hope this message reaches you. You open the heart of the world for all to see, Mark. God bless you and your family.

As a Syrian in exile for almost 20 years (before the revolution started), I savour every second of this video and yearn to see and do (and eat) all the things I'm seeing. I'm half Palestinian and half Syrian, I have also travelled to several Arab countries. One thing I love about my culture is that I'm always finding out that there are new foods I never tried. In Hama, the lamb with the eggplant and the lamb with the cheese are completely new dishes to me and it's just from one restaraunt. I really hope he goes to Latakia and Tartous, there are some foods there many of us have never seen. Not to mention the thousands upon thousands of variations in the same dish, like shawarma, or in this video the fattoush Mark had with the majdoul (string) cheese.
Mark you took me back 15 years man love you so much enjoy your every single moment in Syria 🇸🇾
Even as a non-religious person, I always appreciate the religious history that's present in your videos of the Middle East. It's a region with such a rich history where the Abrahamic religions are so intimately intertwined with the nearly every aspect of the region. It's always fascinating to see the remnants and legacies of the early beginnings of the religions that dominate the world today
Syria is very beautiful, more than I expected. I will visit it one day ❤

When a guy who travelled almost everywhere on earth says that syrians are the most welcoming people , it hurts my soul to hear how every country that has syrian refugees is starting to supress them and command them to go back, Syrians did host and help so many different nations over the years , Armanian , Irakis, Paelstanians and Lebanese through out their wars. The war is over, but in my country, Syria is still suffering from the American blockade on the economy. We ask for your support from all countries in the world and the demand to lift the economic blockade on our country.... Thank you all.

From the heart of wounded, bereaved Gaza, your prayers for relief and victory for us, we are tired, world 🇵🇸😭💔✌
I so much love that you showcase countries like Syria, Iran, Afghanistan and many others in this way. Showing the amazing hospitality and friendlyness of the regular people and the mouthwatering food and so bring a different picture of these countries into the living rooms across the world. We need this so bad! Especially in the so called west where the mainstream media is just trying to present a negative picture. This is a great form of peace work you do!!! Much love and respect!!! 🙏❤💛💚🤎🙏
Hi Mark. You are by far my fav KZreadr. Thank you for the great work you do. You give honor to the most needy communities and make them worthy in a way they are. Be blessed my friend.
