España is such an underrated country, they have the best wine, the best hamon serrano (prosciutto) very rich in culture, different Spanish dialogs, I love how Spain mixes their old culture with their new modern views. Viva España!

I was there in September (along with Toledo, Segovia and Valencia) and I agree 100%, Madrid is one of the great cities of Europe but sadly overlooked. The Retiro is my favorite urban park I've seen, even better than NYC's Central Park. I loved the museums, but for sure visit more lesser-known galleries; I went to an underground and rather in-your-face galley near Atocha, Museo Neomudejar. I dined at Botin and it did not disappoint, the roast suckling pig and their crème brûlée are for sure worth it! But what really impressed me was exploring the neighborhoods, the city is so colorful and so many little things to discover. Also, the Madrid River walk is really impressive and visiting the along-the-way San Isidro Cemetery is a truly memorable day of exploration. My god I love Madrid, I'd go back in a heart beat!

Overlooked for americans only. Madrid has been in the top 4 of the largest and most beautiful European capitals for decades, along with London, Paris and Rome. In fact, it's the most populous city in the European Union after Berlin, and therefore larger than Paris and Rome.

We madrileños like It that way. We don't want to become another amusment turism park like Barcelona, BUT Madrid is the Top 2 most visited cities in Europe.

Me alaga que alguien de fuera valore y aprecie mi ciudad, pero la verdad es que prefiero que se siga considerando desconocida y menospreciada hacia el exterior. No quiero que se pierda la esencia y la magia a base del turismo masivo como pasa en París, Barcelona o Venecia. Me gusta más que la gente de fuera vea esta una ciudad para comprometerse y quedarse, y no para emborracharse en la playa o para bajarse de un autobús, hacer 4 fotos y salir corriendo. Prefiero que Madrid siga siendo una ciudad viva, auténtica y accesible para todo el mundo.

Ya empieza a notarse en exceso el turismo. Yo vivo en Galicia pero bajo de vez en cuando por trabajo, y en los últimos 15 años muchas cosas han ido a mejor, pero el tema precios y la orientación de los negocios no, claramente hay más demanda turística. Es una pena la verdad. Me he planteado muchas veces ir a Madrid a vivir, lo que pasa que algo me dice que acabará como Barcelona.

Fantastic video. Madrid is my favourite European capital, and on par with CDMX (also underrated) as favourite city. I've been there five times and I can never get enough of it. The atmosphere. Culture. Architecture. Music everywhere in so many beautiful plazas. Friendly people. Amazing nightlife. Gastronomy. Shopping. I never want to go to sleep in Madrid. I often stay up talking up a storm with the locals in a park or plaza until the wee hours. I would move there in a heartbeat.

Madrid has no limited recognition among its european brothers. This only a limited american vision. Madrid has been in the top 4 of the largest and most beautiful European capitals for decades, along with London, Paris and Rome. In fact, it's the most populous city in the European Union after Berlin, and therefore larger than Paris and Rome.

Once I heard that Madrid hasn't too much beauty, and that get into my mind and I didn't really expect anything from Madrid; but those things changed since I arrived in Madrid, I was charmed and Madrid became one of my favourite cities.

You can live in Madrid and be really relaxed and happy. I lived there for a year and have been back many times since. Eben though it changes every trip feels as though I have never been away. Easy to move around, easy to find things to do, easy to make friends and easy to love is squares and gardens and walks. Go to the museo Sorplla, it's a must. Spain is all beautiful and I would suggest so many places easy to reach from Madrid. Aranjuez, for instance, Cuenca, which is a little further. Toledo, of course and Segovia. If you can go further then you can't miss Cordobs, the town of the little hidden patios. If you like eating sweet things the convent of Clarissas make cakes that melt in your mouth.

London is becoming more stressful to live in I heard, especially crime rate, traffic, roadworks, overcrowded, lots of litter and very expensive. I lived there for a while and won't be going back again.

@@rr-jp7kg the writing was on the wall in 2011 when the then Crime and Judicial Minister was Theresa May (arguably the UK's worst prime minister in living memory and I'm a guy that thinks that Thatcher was not too bad in the same party). The police lost control, there was rioting, shops closed at 4pm with the shutters down and I walked back home from work in central London down deserted streets due to the rioting and people staying away. I said enough and got out within a year and I'm glad I did.

@@davedogge2280 another thing that annoyed me was how people in London were driving huge SUVs and then block up the narrow roads. Clearly these roads are not suitable for wide vehicles but no one cared. Anyway I am out of there and not looking back. Relief.

Madrid, an absolutely vibrant city. You can experience the best of a big capital city with the warm and happiness of a spanish village. Its cultural life is another dimension, over the average in Europe. Definetly you should move here. Best wishes!

I'm born in Madrid and the reasons I have are: Weather, the most parks out of all European capitals, friendly and approachable people, freedom, relatively low taxes compared to other parts of Spain, great culture and artistic centre and many more but what could I say, I adore my city.

En los iconos de la pantalla de KZread, a la derecha abajo, el segundo verás que es como una pantallita de ordenador aunque más bien parece una tarjeta de crédito (a la izquierda de la rueda dentada de configuración), haz click aquí y te salen sólos. Si aun así no te salen, dale primero a la rueda dentada y selecciona subtítulos y traducir y luego en la tarjeta 🤣 pincha y te aparecerá un raya roja debajo de ésta indicando que están activados.

I have been visiting Madrid with and without my students since 1975. Have witnessed many changes in the city through the years. I am a recently retired teacher of Spanish in the US. I now visit Madrid at the beginning of Sept. for 2 weeks. Madrid is always my major home during my visit. Due to the fantastic train/fast train system in Madrid I always pick a different city in which to spend 2 or three days which is not on the bucket list for most tourists visiting Spain (Salamanca, Zaragoza, Burgos, Valladolid). In comparing prices in Paris, Rome and Madrid,I have always found the prices in Madrid much cheaper. Gracias por tus videos muy interesantes e informative .. Tienen una sofisticación única, Como tú. De Elaine en NJ, EEUU.

Antoanetta, wow you are an extremely talented artist! For me, Paris, Vienna and Istambul ... are the most beautiful capitals in Europe. And Prague, Lisbon and Budapest. Rome is Rome, another level. From beautiful London I keep the loveliest memories for other reasons. And Madrid ... Madrid has something completely different. I perfectly know what you wanted to capture there... I see it in you. Let's say it's invisible to the eyes. You have to feel it. When I was young and lived in Barcelona me and my friends always got absolutely excited when we planned to spend a week-end in Madrid. Viva! There are tourist cities and cities to live in. Madrid is even better for living than for tourism. It is safe, everything is open until late, it is cosmopolitan, you have a thousand options for work, leisure and friends. On the downside, it is more expensive than other Spanish cities. By the way, you forgot to visit Picasso's Guernica.

Nice video!!! I will try to provide you with some arguments in order to convince you to move here (maybe I will get too long, sorry in advance 😅). I was born in Madrid and I grew up in a small town, 30 kilometers northwest from Madrid. All my family, however, comes from Zaragoza (halfway between Madrid and Barcelona), and I have always considered myself more as a “maño” (a person from Zaragoza), than as a “madrileño” (a person from Madrid). As a Spaniard and as someone who has its roots in another city, I don’t necessarily love Madrid as a city to live in, but this is just because I don’t like the lifestyle in big cities at all, nothing to do with Madrid itself. However, I also think that Madrid has many positive things if you like big cities and you are considering to move here. It is true that Madrid is not the most beautiful city neither in Europe nor in Spain. There are many other places that are aesthetically more beautiful than Madrid. Even so, in my opinion, when it comes to habitability, beauty has not a lot to do. A city can be extremely beautiful, but if the city only offers you beauty, once you have visited it over and over again, you have nothing but good pictures. Apart from beauty, a city needs to offer other activities, plans and attractions. It’s in this aspect where I think Madrid is a good place to live in, and here are the points that, for me, could convince you to call Madrid your next home: 1. First of all, Madrid, maybe because it’s not that famous or recognized, it’s a city made for its inhabitants, for its people. I mean, Rome, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Prague or Budapest, to name a few, have turned into some kind of theme parks. Everything is so oriented to tourist and tourism, that at the end of the day you always feel a tourist there. If you visit the city as a tourist this is not a big deal, but if you decide to settle there, it can be a bit frustrating and disgusting to always be treated as a tourist! In Madrid we of course have tourism, and this touristy issues can also occur, however I have never seen tourism affecting to everyday life, and that is, for me, very important. In Madrid no matter if you are a foreigner or a local, but if you live here your life is not going to be affected 24/7 by tourism. Madrid is still a city to work and live in, if you come to visit the city, you are more than welcome, but living here you won’t even realize and care about tourism. Having to travel many times to Barcelona for personal and business reasons, it is crazy and a bit disgusting to see how everything is so touristy oriented, that it can really affect your personal lifestyle. 2. It’s location. If Madrid is nice, the rest of Spain is no less incredible and Madrid, laying just in the center of the country, is a perfect departure line to visit the rest of the country. You can easily reach any other part of Spain either by car, bus, train, or even plane, so if you are so stressed with Madrid’s lifestyle, you can just have a ride and spend a weekend somewhere completely different. The North, the South, the East and the West of Spain are connected to Madrid with a great highway network, and also a great railway network and its high speed trains. Plus, Barajas is one of the largest airports in Europe, so you can travel to virtually anywhere in the continent, and providing that Spain is also as centric as Madrid in a global scale (between Europe and Africa, between the Atlantic, all the way to America, and The Mediterranean, all the way to Asia), connections with America, Africa and Asia are also available and accessible. For someone who loves traveling, this is, definitely, a must to consider. 3. In Madrid there’s always something to do. No matter if you are a morning person or a night lover, a culture lover or you are more into sports, Madrid offers you a lot of different things to do. From its theaters (Madrid, and especially Gran Vía Street, is considered “the Broadway of Europe''), to its nightclubs and restaurants (Spain leads the world rank in bars per capita), from its nearby natural and national parks (Guadarrama Mountains, for instance, no other big European capital city has a National Park or similar big natural areas as nearby as Madrid), to its museums, art galleries (El Prado, Thyssen or Reina Sofía, the "Triangle of Art", where you can find the highest concentration of paintings from all over Europe.)… It’s virtually impossible not to find a plan. 4. Last, but not least, Madrid is a cosmopolitan city wrapped with a traditional (“castiza” as it is said here) essence. You can find here people from every nationality, color, language and religion, yet, Madrid keeps its own identity and essence. It’s like if instead of the city being transformed by foreign cultures, these foreign cultures melt and adapt to Madrid, creating a curious atmosphere. I don’t know how to explain this, but it is like if in Madrid coexistence between tradition and modernity, between locals and foreigners it comes so natural, that you don’t even realize when one starts and another finishes. This is probably due to our Spanish mindset and doesn’t happen just in Madrid, but as its biggest city it is probably where it is better represented. Spain is a crazy country where you can have traditional Easter celebrations, with its traditional music, costumes and religious events in April, and two months later the world’s biggest gay parade takes place… Modern buildings suddenly mix with village-looking neighborhoods. Spain is sometimes like a contradiction, but ironically it is one of the things that I like the most about my country, and Madrid, again, as the capital, is clearly the finest example. 5. Well, last one, I promise. Maybe this is just a personal perception, but from all the cities that I have visited, I think Madrid (and Spanish cities, in general) are slightly cleaner than other European big cities. I have never realized this until some foreigners told me, then I started checking by myself and surprisingly I agree with them. Maybe this is not a relevant issue at all, but it can help to make the decision. Of course, Madrid has also a lot of cons, basically because as a big city, sometimes you need to cover extremely long distances, traffic is horrible and lifestyle can be stressing. Also, Spain is still struggling with unemployment and our job culture sucks sometimes (long hours and underpaid salaries). Bureaucracy and paperwork are f*cking annoying. Not to talk about politics… It’s not everything as nice as it may sound, but what is? I won’t tell you that life is perfect here, but, with all the disadvantages, I think lifestyle in Spain is amazing, because, at the end of the day, we try to enjoy life as much as possible.

I love Madrid but València is wonderful as well, both capitals are well connected by high speed train so you can have the peace of the Mediterranean and a bit of high energetic city whenever you want. If you ask why Madrid I'll say: the people. But not exclusively the people from Madrid, no. The whole sum of local and global visitors and inhabitants of the city.

I made the same face after receiving the bill in some places in my region (Asturias) Very good Riberas del Duero glasses of wine for 3 Euros. A far cry comparing with any wine that I get in Newport Beach or Laguna Beach for 12 even $15 dollars, wines that are closer to vinegar than wine.
