"Most Terrifying Poll Result I’ve Ever Seen": Scott Rasmussen Surveys America’s Elite 1%

When veteran pollster Scott Rasmussen surveyed a group of Americans he calls the elite 1% earlier this year, he discovered a startling number who say it’s OK to win an election by cheating.
The elite 1%-individuals who make over $150,000 a year, live in densely populated areas, and have postgraduate degrees-are overwhelmingly liberal. They give President Joe Biden an 82% approval rating, compared to his 40% average from the rest of Americans.
Rasmussen asked these liberal voters: “Suppose that your favorite candidate loses a close election. However, people on the campaign know that they can win by cheating without being caught. Would you rather have your candidate win by cheating or lose by playing fair?”
Among all Americans, just 7% said they would want their candidate to win by cheating. But that number rose to 35% among the elite 1% and skyrocketed to 69% among those who are part of the politically obsessed 1%, meaning they talk about politics every day.
“I’ve been polling for a very long time and the last finding is the most terrifying poll result I’ve ever seen,” Rasmussen told The Daily Signal.
Rasmussen spoke to “The Daily Signal Podcast” about his findings and his upcoming plans for a weekly TV show.

My son went for his Masters and he was a conservative. Well they did not accept his thesis. His thesis was about Thomas Jefferson and my son depicted him as a conservative. Well today he would be considered a conservative. John f Kennedy would be considered a conservative . His teacher liberal professor, a woman, wanted him to rewrite his thesis and say that Thomas Jefferson was a liberal. My son is strong-willed and is a free thinker and he stuck to his guns and then his teacher complained and had him thrown out of the University. This was in New York City. My son brought a case against the school and three liberal judges sided with the University. So this is how they deal with conservative free thinkers. They throw them out if they can't control them.

Power corrupts. As long as we allow the politicians to seize too much power, we will wind up with government corruption. The solution is to reduce the size and scope and power of government. Going back to the limitations we already have in the Constitution would be a good start.

@@GregariousAntithesis Imagine a CEO with a big stack of money ready to pay out in bribes. Now imagine a politician with a lot of power to grant special advantages in the marketplace. That politician will tend to draw a lot of bribery offers. Now imagine that the politicians' power is strictly limited. Let's say they CAN'T grant special privileges, such as monopoly status, tax breaks, subsidies, grants... etc. to the CEO's. What happens to the bribes? They are not offered in the first place. You see, the source of the corruption can never be the cash. It is not the "big money influence." Instead, it is the power. Constitutions are used to limit the power of governments. But there is no way to limit the amount of cash.

agree and these old people in their late seventies and eighties think that the average American person is too stupid or ignorant to know what's best for them blah blah blah but then there's also the business flip of it because they know climate is always changing but see this green renewable energy stuff is Big Business and somebody's got to get rich from this . I think Al Gore had to be oftwo or three years before he can Lobby Congress for anything because there are laws with a certain number of years depending on your position. people in Congress have to wait about 2 years after getting out before they can be a lobbyist but it might be a little longer for presidents and vice presidents but Al Gore had all his Congressional friends and he could get subsidy money or pork money from the American government paid by taxpayers or printed from the Federal Reserve and start working on his global warming stuff ..that was proven to be not going so well and they changed the dialectic and started using terms like climate change around 2012 ..the thing about climate change is that it's occurred for billions and billions of years because this planet it's so old and at one time it was nothing but molten lava and this is something that people can do to help like quit littering and quit firing off bombs .. China is the hotspot of textile industry in the world just like India and Russia to some extent and for that reason China uses so much cold and there is nasty and they're not ever ever going to work on Environmental issues whatsoever because they're communist and they want the good things they get from the rest of the world but they don't want to do what they don't want to do ..ain't nothing never should have been allowed to be in the World Trade Center but the thing that angers me is that they were allowed in 2015 to become another developing country for 15 more years when they were well developed in 2005-2010 and definitely about 2015 ..I think it's terrible because the Philippines is on that list also but the places like the Philippines need a whole lot more help than China

They're modern cosmopolitan elite. If you believe those are flattering words, consider the emotions that they cause. Me I might think out of touch and esoteric. They wield an extraordinary outsized influence over culture. This is because all of the women want to be a part of them, and most men wish they were. I suppose I probably would too, it's an easy life and you get to be praised for doing nothing. But I, as well as some of my closest friends have pride in our beliefs. I have sacrificed and lost opportunity due to my uncompromising stance on the truth, and not appealing to authority. I believe every man should harbor distrust and make efforts to decrease the centralization of power and increase the autonomy and freedom every individual man to freely take on the responsibility which makes us self actualized good, trustworthy, compassionate members of the community. A lot of women talk about autonomy. They are often speaking of autonomy for the things they like, like 100% total authority over children and wielding the power of state violence to enforce their emotional desires and selfish whims. Almost no one should be believed when they talk about themselves and their beliefs. They can only be shown to have demonstrated that they have and will suffer punishment and hardship for saying and doing what they believe.

So who is righteous, Israelis or Palestinians? Are you the one who decides who is righteous or not? The founding fathers built friction into the system because they knew that elements of faction could influence the masses. They purposely built the system to be free of religion so this is the exact opposite of what you claim. What would the unquantifiable study of "righteousness" achieve? With all the education happening it still amazes me that so many people can't identify logical fallacies.

The attitudes of "the elite 1%" remind me of William F. Buckley's remark that he'd rather be ruled by the first 1,000 people in the Boston telephone directory (note to Gen X and younger: everyone with a "land line"--look up that term, too--used to be listed in a book with their address and telephone number) than the entire Harvard faculty. I had no idea the elites' attitudes were that much different than even those closer to their station, that a graduate degree made one that much more haughty. Wow.

Friedrich A. Hayek, one of the two preeminent 20th economists (the other was Maynard Keynes), wrote about what he called the "fatal conceit". Extraordinarily bright people can see themselves as "experts" even outside of their own field This sense of brilliance leads these elites to believe that as a group, they can solve highly complex problems. But truly complex systems such as the interaction of millions of people in the marketplace defy these elites and their concentrated conceit. The results can be fatal to ideas, institutions, and people.

Good interview. The 1% believe they are part of the "club" since they learned the dogma at the same 12 universities and perversely think collectively they are righteous. Government is their religion and due to secular bent, it is no wonder that a large % would cheat to win. They have no morale compass. I have a post grad degree and saw the changes at a Big Ten university and in CA. This will change when there is a major dysfunction in the economy and they lose their business/employment and turns their life upside down. It is not unfair when you don't have a moral compass, it is karma.

Well said. I may not have a post-graduate degree, but I have, at times, pondered how a society changes as a whole. For instance, only some of our population has been taught history properly (by "properly," I mean as accurately as possible). Because of this, we have to live w/the consequences of repeating mistakes when we could have simply chosen to learn from history.

That is truly a terrifying poll result. To think that my area is “politically represented” would be rather laughable, and I know this. I’ve written, both long-hand, before “email,” and afterward, sent a mix of both, every year. The letters are always answered, response given to a minimum of one issue, of a minimum of two, mostly more from each letter. Canned responses, rubber stamp replies from the Rep’s. or Sen’s. “assistants.” I’ve felt for years, that my Legislators in Washington never see what I send them; and based on actions by them, my “feels” are mostly correct. Would I appreciate the opportunity to see my Congressman? After the results of your poll - it looks as though the 1% have taken over for the other 99%. Even though I may technically qualify for that 1% based on education, I do not live in an area that affords me an “anytime” visit. So again, based on your poll, I guess the 1% has me boxed out. But, that won’t stop me from continuing to write to them. I will. Whether they ever know it or not, I will.

It is my belief that those who shout loudly in favor of aborting the birth of an innocent human being have never been blessed with the experience of watching and then holding that newly born child in their arms for the first time! There is absolutely NO reason to destroy that life except if that child will not survive the process or will cause the mothers death or serious injury. Money motivates lots of pharmaceutical companies to supply abortion pills which in many instsnces have loads of side effects and even require doctors to deal with pain issues and complications. There are clinics, so called, and doctors that provide abortions also motivated by money while there are others of the same qualifications that will provide healthful results to provide adoption, care, and protection for mother and child if sought out. The most important consideration is the command of our Creator of whom we will all have to give an account one day for our actions. Why not trust in Him who created both you and I and the still innocent life within.? Your decision may weigh upon your ultimate outcome !

While it was a political science class, he discussed polling on any number of unrelated subjects. He was regularly interviewed on television news programs. He spoke a great deal about how polls are created and executed, how a poll can be biased (huge issue with many phone polls), how many people had to be polled to achieve various levels of accuracy and many other aspects of assessing public opinion. It left me very wary of badly worded polling questions.

$150,000 a year is the top 1%? NOT in this country. Maybe if you include the entire world.

No. Over $150k / year would be one percent of one percent for the world. You need to study income statistics more.

He said 150k a year, living in a location with at least 10,000 per square mile, and a post graduate degree. 150k is somewhere between 3 and 4% of the population, and the 1% is over 400k I believe...

I have six friends who are "elite" and none of them would take a survey, poll or give an political opinion. I consider "elite" as a person who has a net worth of over $10 million. My son in law makes over $250K a year and I do not consider him"elite" He is a Trump hater. My daughter votes for him on mail in ballots. She does not take; Polls, surveys or give political opinions. I am a consultant engineer with a degree in Industrial Engineering from Cal Poly. I also have a pilot and mechanics license as well as a prof Eng. license. I am 88 years old and do not work more than 2 hours a day. I am out for breakfast every morning and have a drink in the afternoon. I talk with business owners, loggers, farmers, lawyers, doctors, nurses, teachers, bartenders, retirees, carpenters, plumbers, electricians truck drivers, fishermen, cops and military (coast guard) pretty much every day. I believe I have a better sense of public attitude than Scott. GET SMART, GET TRUMP. Iguana Ps we are unique because of our freedoms
