The peak estimated wind speed for the Lincoln, NE tornado was 158 mph. Rated an EF-3. 265 mph would be a devastating EF-5. However, the 1999 Moore tornado may have reached as high as 302 mph.

The "don't hide under and overpass" thing is, at this point, one of those "facts" that I find seriously dubious. Yes, it amplifies windspeed, but it also provides a level of protection from falling debris and the pylons can block horizontal debris. It's clearly a better option than having a piece of roof land on you in the open or being in a lightweight, high-surface-area vehicle that gets blown away or shredded.

I did the same thing during a tornado-the underpass was the only shelter and we all drove down there. I got out, climbed up under the road above and held on to a pillar. I did have sand drilled into my scalp through a tiny crack in the pillar, but also saw the vehicles below getting lifted but then set back down by the tornado. In the end, everyone was ok but I was a wet mess.

It really depends on whether you get a direct hit - that is, the bridge is hit by tornadic- strength winds or not. If you don't get full wind exposure, you probably are less likely to get struck by debris under the bridge. Keep in mind, we're talking cars, lumber, trees, parts of houses, jagged objects outweighing a human body.

I like how he said Nebraska- with a foreign accent, he says, “Nebrasker” also the way that narrator talks about how big the tornadoes are. He has no idea that they can be over 2 miles in diameter and big cases. The wedge tornado usually averages about a mile in diameter. There are small wedges like the one showing right here which are very small for a wedge tornado. Tornadoes are literally a mile in a circle.

Considering he thinks an EF3 tornado can peak at 265mph I suspect you are correct that he has no idea about tornadoes at all.

@@samdevallance1527 However, considering that most of the viewers of this video will probably be the people who do use miles it seems somewhat disingenuous not to include them like most videos do, especially since about half of the catastrophes in this video occurred where miles are the norm.

@@samdevallance1527 Oh, and if you take just the largest countries where english is spoken given that's the language the video is in, Between Canada, Britain, Ireland & Australia there's a total of about 139.7 million whereas in the USA alone there are more than 341 million so I suspect there are actually hundreds of millions more using miles that would be watching so they could at least put mph in as well.
