I’m with you on this. I prefer the traditional look. These artist releases along with the Firebird are pushing Epiphone prices to where Gibson was not too long ago. Plus, these are just the aesthetics they’re chasing. I guess I’m more of a purist on a way, anyway. I play a Tokai 335 because I haven’t gotten around to selling a kidney on the black market for a Gibson ES335. It doesn’t matter to me if it says Gibson on it or not; I just want the quality feel of a proper 335. The guitar players who’ve influenced me aren’t even 335 players, I just find the smooth, clean sound of a 335 to be sublime. Epiphone is definitely capitalizing on the signature market and that’s great. It’s just not for me. I’d like to maybe get ahold of an Epiphone Inspired by Gibson ES335 in Inverness Green and make upgrades that are conducive to what is pleasing to my ear.

Also, yours is not an IBG. Those only come in Cherry or Vintage Sunburst. Yours is an ES-335 Traditional Pro-they’re made for Guitar Center.

I've had an Epiphone 335 for about 13 years. It does everything. I've subsequently bought a Fender Strat and Gibson SG, which cost much more. The SG I use for slide, but I go to the 335 for most things.

You're not an asshole, you're entitled to your opinion & if that works for you, great! It's a guitar, nobody's being harmed or killed. I'm a HUGE Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters fan. That's the band that made me want to be in a rock band & play guitar. I'm not a fan of Epiphone pickups. Those are just my personal reasons for wanting a DG-335. Not everyone will agree with me & I'm more than OK with it.

I don't think that anybody is buying the DG335 because it is a top tier performer, myself included. I've got a Washburn 335 Delta something or other & a D'angelico Premier DC (a 335). Nope, I got the Epiphone DG335 because it is a very well put together guitar with a bunch of nice components and mostly because I'm an unabashed F.F., D. G. fanboy. I love the color & the shape of the thing I don't expect it to make me a better player, have whiter teeth & fresh breath or to make me sexually irresistible. All that being said I must admit that the neck is really nice and fits me better than I anticipated. So who knows? If I feel like playing it more often then maybe it will make me a better player. BTW my primary instrument is a bass & I also have among that herd a Fender Nate Mendal P bass. Funny thing is that neck fits my hand better than my USA Fender P's. I'd love to see it, the DG335, in Arctic White.

Tough to review a guitar without it actually in your hands, eh? That being said, I totally agree- Epis 335s are the best value out there for semi hollow fair - by far.

The problem I see that might happen next year is all these designed in collaboration with Gibson Custom shop guitars come out with rosewood fret boards and completely devalue the current one's.

Pickups are different for sure between the two. But seeing all the hype on the other signatures…I see a lot in stock mint Fender ones like the Tom Delounge for $900 on Reverb and other places. Once supply catches up, everyone can play one. And there will be mint used ones at $900 or so most likely. I think it’s best to wait till they catch up, then get a deal. Or at least play the DG first…unless you’re a collector or just know you’re getting it regardless.

I have one of these in sunburst and it's very nice. But for a little more dough you can get yourself into an Epiphone Sheraton and they are about the best Epi hollow body you can get.

When did this guitar come out? When you buy signature guitars you are basically buying the name. You can buy a 335 and mod it out to the same guitar and still have milk money.

That’s on point. Plus Dave’s guitar is Gibson and not ephiphone, but I get was it’s Ephiphone inspired by Gibson so more of the masses can afford it. Nice looking guitar. And yeah, you’re paying for the guitar and Dave’s name. To each their own, live out your rock n roll dream of being a Foo Fighter.

Some great points here. I'm guilty at the moment. I have a 2014 Trini Lopez and I still want the DG 335... I am a super fan though!!! The Trini is still gigable as it isnt so much at the forefront of pop culture. The DG 335 is a bit more notable as a signature, but I'd likely get it just as a hobby guitar instead of a working guitar.

The neck profile is different, 0.89" at first fret and 1.00" at 12th fret - Source: Play and Trade Guitars (KZread) So it's chunkier than even the 59 LP model, and you're getting the Trini Lopez headstock/f-holes which has never been released by Epiphone. It's for fans; people who like chunky necks (myself included); anybody curious about Trini Lopez 335's for a lower price; anybody extremely lazy or hesitant about pickup swapping on a semi-hollow. As an owner of a 2022 Cherry Lucille, I'm interested in the chunkier neck after playing an Epi 59 LP, but am waiting till they drop a gold finish DG-335. And Epiphone is also gonna release a 1959 ES-355 soon so I'm waiting anyway.

It isn’t the same guitar. Yours is an all maple body. The DG is maple/poplar/maple-like the Gibsons. It also has a one-piece neck with Dave Grohl’s elliptical neck profile, etc.

Have you actually examined the signature guitars? The DG-335 is "nicer" if you care about such things. You don't seem to actually have any experience with them. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. But comparing used to new is very disingenuous. It's actually about half the price new2new at $600 for the ES-335. It's $300 for the pickups that are standard in the DG-335 (I don't know if there are any other hardware differences. I do know that in the past Epiphone has used CTS pots in their signature models and typically cheap as chips pots in their standard models. Maybe you don't think that matters either? It would be another $100 to get a replacement harness with CTS pots. And humbuckers from Gibson have never, never, never been handmade. Pickups definitely don't sound the same when used with overdrive. I'm not sure what you are talking about there. The DG-335 is a limited run guitar it's going to hold it's value better. It's actually going to cost you $300 more than the ES-335 if you factor in the pickups, $200 more if you have to change out the pots. And that's if you do the work yourself. In the long run you're going to be able to recoup that if you resell to upgrade. Which is pretty likely. Just my .02¢. On value vs price.

I have a gold 335 I got on sale for 499. great guitar, but I can't wait to get the dg335
