yeah and think of how poor Vietnam was back then, it's been dictated for thousands of years already. The only thing the vietnamese got for them was their high and conservative jungles and they used just that to fought THE USA, a massively huge country with modern weapons and hundreds upon thousands of soldiers. Gotta give them some credit

My father was an Aussie Vietnam Veteran and was about a week from rotating out. On his last patrol a guy who had been in country for less than a week stepped on a toe popper and lost most of his left foot. Dad always said he would rather be in a firefight than deal with Vietnamese man traps.

There was a book written by a Vietnamese general during the middle ages when China attempted to invade and conquer them. They used similar traps then and even sank a large portion of the imperial Chinese navy using hidden bamboo spikes on a beach where the ships attempted to land. The book describes how to make these traps and how best to use them. It was still in circulation when the war was going on.

    - Vietnam fought China for 1000 years - Vietnam fought against the French for 100 years - Vietnam fought against the US imperialists for 30 years Traps are also only a small part, the more important thing is creative tactics and Vietnam has accumulated experience in each battle. Moreover, Vietnamese people fight for their homeland and country, so the fighting spirit is very strong.

My Dad was over there. The thing I remember him telling me about the most is that they would apply fecies and urine to the sharpened sticks to cause infection in the man who was wounded. That really made it's way into my little mind. See Dad everyday and help him with his medical regiment. A few days ago he was watching a program about NAM war when I visited, which is odd and rare because he usually turns the channel or turns the tv off when that stuff comes on. I think I have witnessed a 4 decade healing of sorts, the level of pain and rage and uncontrolled emotion has been tempered over time, but I could feel a nervous, taught energy in the room as he watched that program about the war. No wonder my father never spoke about his experience from this war. I wasn't born yet but my mom told us when he got back home, he threw away all his Army gear. She went in the trash and saved his army coat which I have today. The only other story she told us was about an explosion near his mess hall that killed 2 of his friends. I thank God he made it back home with no injuries other than getting malaria. Maybe he will talk about it now but I'm so mad that these governments send our young men to fight these useless wars over nothing!!!

Often veterans dont talk about their war experiences because theyre not like the movies. Typically there are so many troops in any given war zone that only so many combat experiences can be spread to the whole bunch therefore limited stories. Even today only 3% of the US military is combat oriented.

They also made mines against helicopters. A crude four blade propeller made in... bambu, of course, was set in a probable landing zone and attached to a hand grenade ring by a wire. When approaching the ground to land, the downwash of the helicopter main rotor would spin the bambu propeller connected to the grenade, and after a few turns the propeller shaft would spool up the attached wire, pulling the ring and detonating the grenade, hitting the helicopter underside where in a UH-1 the fuel tank was located. I must agree that's quite imaginative indeed!

I am surprised of how they pulled it together to current day. They were called: "Quân Đội Nhân Dân Việt Nam", which means the army were from the farmers, I mean people, ain't any specialised personnels whose got training for thousands of dollars. As a Vietnamese, I'm proud of my ancestors, the effort, determination and how much they love the country and never give up even when they're horribly tortured really made me respect them. I'm proud of the fighting, the bones and blood sacrificed by my ancestors to give us peace. I love peace. Many people lost their lives protecting their homeland, while the attacking ones also pass away. So why start a war in the beginning? I know there are many reasons leading to a war but this war is kinda pointless. No one benefit. So please keep this world peaceful and don't let wars happen. Vietnam has fought against China after 1000 years of invasion, fought agains the French army, the US invaders and then the Chinese invaders after Americans left. We fought to protect our homeland, not cause war. So why not just live in peace? That way, thousands of soldiers wouldn't have died! P/S: Didn't know our traps could be so deadly and dangerous...

There's another version of the door trap you didn't mention. This one instead of punji sticks it used the two-step viper. The way my grandfather told me is they would either nail or tie the two step to the top of the doorway that way when a US soldier would open it it would hit the snake angering them and they would immediately start trying to bite the US soldier. My grandfather told me about this as he encountered it on two separate occasions while he was in Vietnam. I found that out after I asked him why he was afraid and cautious to walk through his own door one day. Suffice to say I was a little disturbed by the answer but not surprised.

My neighbor was drafted in Vietnam, but he injured his ankle in advanced training and was considered unfit for duty and discharged. He was supposed to be a tunnel rat. Probably saved his life. My grandpa was an ex South Vietnamese US allied back then and I remember when I was 5, he used to handmade bird trap with nets and clothes hanger. He finally perfected his craft to build a catch and release safely for the birds. He’s like 75-78 right now. We used to grew up in a ghetto neighborhood on Hilltop Tacoma Washington and he’ll hang his trap on the trees in front of his porch at an apartment.

Vietnam is currently one of the countries most heavily contaminated with landmines and mines in the world. Particularly the number of bombs, the US military used in the Vietnam War about 15.35 million tons.. My country is proud to have repelled the imperialists who invaded us. From Vietnam

There was also a already fired law rocket tube that the us military fired and left the tube so the VC would pick it up take 6 grenades and pull the pin put them in the tube so the spoon is held down in the tube then tie it up in the trees like the mace laying flat so the grenades would stay in the tube until the trip wire was tripped then the tube would sweep down the trail dropping 6 grenades down the trail killing or maiming the whole patrol.

I think you should include an explicit and clear statement in every video that you have a link to your sources in the description. Also related to sources: please show them with a footnote in both the video and the document. I trust you, but that would make it easier for people who don’t to fact-check your claims. The alternative to footnotes (links) used in this video, I think, are also great.

Idk which side was more scarier. On the US side your probably young in a different uncomfortable environment you’ve never been in. You had to watch every tree, every step, and even back packs for traps. On the Viet side Yk your outnumbered and out teched, the US is constantly bombing your home town and one mistake could get you killer by your buddy’s trap
