It’s racist to some people cause obviously only black people commit crimes. Had an argument with a woman she said it paints black people in a bad light. Liberals here really just have the usual racism of low expectations they have always had. The other one is there was apparently a lynching back in the 1920s at that Courthouse however again that wouldn’t be relevant if they weren’t assuming they are talking about black people (aka in their minds criminals)

I grew up in a small town, one night we had a literal axe murderer going wild, every man in town was out with their rifles and shotguns, helping the cops chase him down before he could hurt anyone else. It didn’t end well for him.

So, if he was an axe murderer then he actually murdered someone. Now if I was to report this in the same manner that right-wing media does when trying to demonize progressive culture, I would leave out the part where the town got together and focus only on the fact that someone got killed by some crazy man with an axe, THEN launch into a tirade about how conservative culture let that happen. See how that works?

We had some out of town boys thinking it would be cool to tear up our park with their car. They were chased out by our boys so fast that sheriff didn’t even have time to react. It is how it is we take care of our own and our town. Also it baffles me that some people believe only certain people live in small towns, certain people in cities, certain people are patriots and only certain people commit crime? They maybe need to look in a mirror. Kinda sad way to live imo. Great reaction as always and you broke it down beautifully in the end❤

I live in a small town in the US. He's not wrong. The big cities have lost their fucking minds, but if anyone tries that here in a small town, well, we got a 2nd amendment for a reason... Try that here and you most likely won't live to see tomorrow. We do take care of our own. Also, there's something even our own government doesn't take into consideration.... Warriors desire peace more than anything. As a Vet, I can confirm this. Most of us move to small towns to get away from ignorant assholes. If you tried that riot shit here, you will find out. That is why American small towns are known collectively as "the land of fuck around and find out." Big cities make the news. The reason small towns don't is simply because we use our law and rights to defend ourselves.

Here’s the context from an American on why the lyrics are so fucked up. “Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk Carjack an old lady at a red light Pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store Ya think it's cool, well, act a fool if ya like” He’s describing crimes but he’s clearly talking about black people. Due to how they’re portrayed in the media. Lots of historical context over 150 years about how black people were enslaved then set free then partially enslaved again then set free but only as 2nd class citizens and given no right until about the 1960s where there are still many racist people alive today that we’re still around back then. All that to say. Black people in the USA are much poorer than their white counterparts who have a 150 year head start to the race. Since poverty is directly tied to crime there’s more crimes being committed in poorer neighborhoods which are more likely to be populated by black people. When you factor in income into the statistics all races commit crimes at the same rate but a lot of media institutions intentionally leave out that context and just show bar graphs that show black people committing more crimes than white people and then continue the narrative that all minorities especially black people are criminals. “Cuss out a cop, spit in his face Stomp on the flag and light it up Yeah, ya think you're tough” Cussing out a police officer and stomping out the American flag are all legally considered free speech under the 1st amendment of the United States constitution. However Jason does not approve of those actions and even though you’re free to do it. He hates you for it. And here’s why. “Well, try that in a small town See how far ya make it down the road Around here, we take care of our own” “Try that in a small town” is basically him saying if you try and do constitutionally protected activity like calling a police officer a bad word or burning the American flag you will be shot. And killed. So don’t come to our small town and we won’t have to murder you. Is the translation Also “we’ll see how far you make it down the road” is referencing a recent news story in the state of Georgia where an elderly white man shot up a car full of teenage black girls and killed 2 of them because they were turning around in his driveway because they made the wrong turn. They then sped down the road as they were bleeding from their wounds and then the driver passed out from blood loss and they crashed into a tree. The man was not arrested for almost a month. When Jason is saying “we take care of our own” he’s referring to white people. It’s a very common thing said by racist people here in the south. Also the “small town” reference is referring to white neighborhoods. Due to legal racial segregation for so long many small towns especially in the south are extremely white. “You cross that line, it won't take long For you to find out, I recommend you don't Try that in a small town” So this is him directly talking to black people and threatening them directly saying if you come move into our white neighborhood we will shoot and kill you. Why? Because the “cross that line” comment. Is a direct reference to “redlining” A practice where black people were legally segregated into their own neighborhoods too and forbidden to move into white neighborhoods This is the most egregious part in my opinion. “Got a gun that my granddad gave me They say one day they're gonna round up Well, that shit might fly in the city, good luck” When Jason says “they are going to round up“ the “they” he is reffering to are black people. And the round up he’s reffering to is them getting together and collectively demanding equality and fair treatment by the police. Aka “hey don’t kill us disproportionately please. It kinda seems like you’re purposely trying to kill us” This is also in reference to the murder of George Floyd in 2020 after he was strangled for 9 mins straight by the police begging and pleading for air until they crushed his wind pipe and he died. The protests demanding justice afterwards is directly being referenced here “Full of good ol' boys, raised up right” This is so racist Jesus Christ 😂😂 omg so “good ol’ boys” is literally a reference to the confederate states of America during the American civil war. The confederate soldiers, who were fighting on the side of preserving slavery in America were called “good ol boys” now in modern times this is just a racist dog whistle Now I have completely and egregiously oversimplified so much historical and contemporary context but hopefully I did a good enough job explaining why this dude is so fucked up and a piece of shit

The song speaks up against the liberal behavior we saw with their riots. They don't like that. The song is terrific and speaks up against violence and bad behavior. The hot button insult from liberals is always calling anyone who disagrees with them "racist" believing that labels one and they can't fight against it. The court house was used because it resembles the White House and represents justice.

I live near the town of Undisclosed Location, Alabama at the conner of No Street and Where Avenue. My neighbors are Black, White, and Red (Choctaw Peoples). We get along. We support each other. A couple of years ago, we got hit hard by a fast-moving Hurricane Zeta which managed to make it 100 miles inland with 90 mph winds. No power. No county water. Power lines all over every which way. It was a mess. I have Solar Power, not for any Green thing but because of emergencies. I loaned out generators. I gave out water from my wells. I made ice in my freezers. I was proud to do it. I had a big oak tree that fell across my 200-meter-long driveway. Neighbors arrived with chain saws. It was converted to firewood in two hours. The following hunting season, I had four deer dropped of by neighbors who claimed that "We figured you could use it." We take care of each other. Only Blue City people could object to the song.

They didn't cancel Hannah Montana for this place being in the movie. I've lived in a small town all of my 47 years and I can tell you, we stick together regardless of color or background. There was a group of black ladies that would do an exercise walk in the mall on Saturday morning. They'd pray before and one day were asked to leave because they were praying. The following weekend, hundreds of us showed up in the mall parking lot, shoulder to shoulder, all races and prayed with those ladies right in front of the mall. In small towns, we stick together and as Aldean said, we take care of our own. Our guns are our means of hunting and defending our homes and families. If someone seeks to take your guns it's because they intend on doing something you'd shoot them for. We don't care who it is, if our communities are attacked, we will defend each other and each others businesses and homes from being destroyed. That is just how small towns in America are.

@@bitterrainbow So what? It's a racist location or it's not. You're outraged or you're not. Regarding the news footage shown? I'm from South Minneapolis, not anymore. I got the hell outta there and moved to a small town. In that riot, they burned down a brand new affordable housing apartment building while CNN stood in front of it and called it peaceful. They destroyed a Charter School, a food shelf, a church, burned down a Pakistani Dentist office just opening his clinic, burned down the restaurant of a black firefighter out trying to stop our neighborhood burning down. They destroyed dozens of small businesses, most minority owned. I don't care how mad they were about George. Nothing justified destroying the community. Most of the ones who did that? They were NOT from that neighborhood. People came in and wrecked the place and left us to clean up the pieces. Where I live now, that's not gonna happen. We do in fact look out for our community, and we will protect it.

Because it's the neighbors that watch out for each other. It happens in small towns, big towns and even big cities because it's human nature. Reaction without much previous info is what we enjoy but there are a lot of times something about the song, artist, etc gets missed/ misunderstood or there is background info that could completely change one's impression of a song. It would also give folks who know something is missing or misunderstood the satisfaction of seeing that corrected as well as getting to hear if the reaction changes once more info is added.

firstly ill say sometimes an outsiders opinion is more valuable than those directly involved, fresh eyes, unbiased and all that, so imo you do have the right, as does everyone, to have an opinion on a subject even if not directly involved the lyrics do literally say "i dont recommend you try that in a small town" whats the saying? you can't see the forest for the trees, as you said, people picking out bits and pieces to be upset over instead of looking at the whole song meanwhile most of the song seemed to be talking about what happened in 2020 (with the clips playing overlayed, and less laws have been enforced since, i assume maybe for fear of more rioting in reaction? which is fair but laws mean nothing if they arent enforced) lastly years back i accidently locked myself out of the house an it was a cold night, and my neighbor at like 2 am was up an let me stay in his place to stay warm, dont know if people would do that for eachother in a city or just ignore a neighbor/be scared to let em stay, but says a lot about the generosity of people that would be willing to let a stranger into their home when they dont have to

Yes, there are neighbors in cities that would shelter each other if needed and there are neighbors in small towns that won't. People are people, it's not like moving to a city or a small town changes their DNA. This is why I have a problem with Aldean and his otherwise very boring song... Aldean is obviously stoking the culture war where Americans lie about each other so they can tear each other down. It's probably the most idiotic thing a nation can do to itself but emotions like pride and anger take us there.

@@NigelDeans while i do agree worst thing to do in a nation is to divide its people, can you deny the multiple different videos done on seeing if random strangers will help someone? granted people arent bligated to help a stranger, but in todays society it seems people first instinct is to go to their phones and record, rather than actually stop someone from committing a crime or hurting someone, not saying the video isnt important evidence, but if everyone does it, all anyone is doing is watching a crime happen. while yes depending on the situation it could be dangerous to step in, so common sense before doing so without a doubt and there are other song that instigate violence, but those dont get taken down, unless its violence they dont care about if it does happen? me, i dont want any violence happening, nor encouraged, call me old fashioned

The reason that it was so controversial is because of where they filmed the video. Which to me is a tactic to distract from the message the song is portraying. To me it means in a small town nobody would try this kind of thing, ie. rioting violently, looting, etc, in a way as they would in a bigger city where the reprimand would probably be far less or nothing at all, because they would never get as far as being caught by the law or otherwise because they would be stopped or already too afraid/worried whatever it is to do those things. It is also important to mention that most protesters are there in a peaceful way, but the people that are being brought up in this song, and in this light are the ones who give peaceful protesters a bad name. It’s a real shame, but the controversy comes from a place of only preaching more hate and anger, because that is not what was meant by this song or video.

Most of the controversy is pretty stupid pretty much them picking out words in the song and fixating on them. I remember someone did a whole rant on the “good ole boys” line. They were accusing Jason Aldean saying that he was apart of a right-wing radicalist group who adopted that name even thou the good ole boys has been a phrase for years, getting a lot of its popularity from dukes of hazard. The other major bit is over the location which ok welcome to American you can got to the most peaceful city there is and if you dig back far enough you’ll find a shit ton of fked up shit that happened there, so I don’t put much stock in a building

I'm from Texas, in a small community of 126 people, farming people. This song resonates as it captures the spirit of standing together, coming out to take care of others in the area. The song speaks up against the riots, the violence perpetrated against people who don't agree with the 'Woke' agenda. Protests can be a good thing, folks can speak their minds. Protests that turn to violence against people and businesses who are not the reason for the protest are wrong. The only thing I might say is problematic is the courthouse WAS the site of a black man's lynching... way back in the 1920's. The culture of racism back then was wrong. Good luck finding an old 1920's courthouse anywhere in the nation that didn't have a history of at least one such travesty of justice. Wounds of the past cannot be healed by continually ripping the wound open.

Just my opinion here, but I never seen or felt like he was talking about Race or anything about that. I got the message that in big cities people get away with stuff he's just trying to bring out our attention to what's going on in the world and that's why he says what he says in his song it had nothing to do with attacking people's race. but if you were to try that in smaller town and a full community where everyone knows everyone because the town is so small that's not going to fly, as he said, so you can't hide in the town, you can't escape, and there going to take care of their own. Nothing about this song was racist. At least that's how I see it or heard it.

That just doesn’t make sense for people to be mad about because the lyrics aren’t specifically targeted at any one race. I think that the people who think the music video is racist are the real racists for automatically assuming the crimes were committed by black people.

The reason its Controversial is the building in the video is a building in Atlanta, Georgia apparently there was a lynching of a African American that was there a very long time ago and the uneducated people to put it sorta nicely who say this is controversial are putting the lynching and the crimes in the video together because they think that black people only do those crimes which is completely not true, i mean he showed damn near all races committing crimes but im pretty sure more of the crimes in the video was white people committing them. Thats what im thinking at least, hell im going to be honest as someone who lives in a town that has a population of only like 4000 people, i barely even graduated high school and ive never even left the state im from (Missouri, USA) even i know that what they are saying about this song is bullshit, there may be violence in the video but there is barely any crime im my town because literally just about everybody knows everyone. honestly i feel like as long as you raise your kids right, and to keep in mind that kids will grow up doing the things they see their parents do whether that be violence, drugs or whatever. My grandparents raised me, and i learned from them that being humble and kind will get you alot further in life that violence ever will sure people who are violent may get to the top so to speak but they soon fall back down because violence doesn't solve anything

I love that you call anyone who disagrees with you "uneducated" and continue on stating you "barely graduated high school." There is no crime in small towns because there are NO people in small towns.

@NurseMagsy first of all I never said I call everyone who disagrees with me uneducated, and me barely passing high-school has nothing to do with why I was said the word uneducated in the first place,

Rap or Hip hop songs are even more violent and straight forward taunting words than what this song is all about....

When somebody says don't be a criminal and do criminal things because it won't be tolerated in a small town and the first thing they think of is black people who's the racist here?

Exactly. Says more about them than the song or Aldean. Spot on.

Honestly, my belief is it is controversial because *some* people had falsely believed they were destroying typical American attitudes and they can't stand people willing to stand against violence and threats.

I never heard of this singer before until all of the controversy. When his song was labeled racist I had to find out all about him. When I first listened to the song. It made me cry . I grew up in a small town. I watched The video and read the lyrics, Not one black person is in the video And there are. No foul words.. Many reviewers that are black have said. That this song is not racist.. Everyone had to find out what the problem was... This is what happened...... Over a 100 years ago, at the sight of that building where they have the flags, there was a lynching of a boy of 16 years of age. He was lynched because he assaulted a white boy. Arount the same age. So all of the hoopla is over a lynching that took place over a hundred years, ag[o.

Well it just means law and order hasn’t been turned off in small towns. Acting up brings shame to the families name. Every one knows every one else. You will go to jail. Leave your crazy in the big city if you like it like that.

Only reason i heard about this song was cause of the so called "controversy" xD But I think it's more of a "twitter angry" moment.

People seem to forget Jason Aldean was in the Las Vegas mass shooting on stage when it went down.

Yes like you said nothing racist about it. Just good old boys taking care of their neighbors. And speaking out against rioters during the BLM movement. Along with any other kinda violence. Stating it wont be allowed in small towns. Ive listed to black creaters reacting to this and 99.99% stated they loved the song and it wasnt racist at all. One even stated the people who do say this is racist is a racist themselves. The only reactir who said it was racist was a 20 something year old black kid and his father disagreed with him. His son kept trying to get him to change his mind but the father was adamant. Saying Jason wasnt talking about him. He was talking about rioters, looters and all kinds of violence. Saying their is a difference between protesting for BLM which i support 100% and rioting and destroying peoples property and homes and businesses. Tom McDonald definitely said it best when he says the government is trying to turn people against each other, and nothing will change until you ban together and stop listening to them. Every one should be equal, we all bleed red. And this is coming from someone who's grandparents were racist. Luckily my mom taught us differently and we were all the same, we grew up never seeing the color of someone's skin. If my mom followed her parents views (which at that time seemed normal for people to think like that) she'd never have had me or maybe sisters since we were born from Mexican fathers, our brothers from white guys. Her mom didnt like our paratage, going as far as to say if i was a Mexican she didn't want to see me and my mom better not bring her in the house (where they lived together, as our mom took care of her for awhile before my uncle took over). She got over it. We didnt have a close relationship. Funnily enough she had two favorites, one of our brothers and the oldest sister (half Mexican) and she doted on them more than anyone. Indulging them in food (which to no surprise, they are obese as adults. Probably very unhealthy. Our brother wont go to the doctors even to see if he has kidney disease that runs in the family. (so far only one of us has it so far, my other sister, besides our mom and uncle.) But the overweight sister has finally been told she has to go on a diet and lose weight because shes borderline diabetic (we've tried before to get her to eat healthier and lose weight for health reasons but she'd go on the defensive and accuse everyone of not wanting her to eat).
