it seems Russia films never have lost the kind of genius that can portray the universal contradictions of the human condition ....so their films of yesterday, today and tomarrow will always be film -art as its best....may they never sink to the level of Hollywood kitsch of present day where if you do see a film you have forgotten it by the time it is over. It is true art reflects the era when it was conceived, the society of the time, the taste of the time....this film has substance and has and will go on being remembered.

These films were almost all state sponsored, whereas American films are privately funded because it’s not a dictatorship. Privately funded films have an obligation to be profitable because they exist in a free market and weren’t paid for by the government.

Whereas in USSR, you were given a budget and a list of 5 things you were never allowed to critique, whatever else you did was up to you, who had real freedom huh? USA = Totalitarianism of money

Being a teenager in 2023 surrounded by all this complicated crap of hits around you THIS IS SUCH A TREAT, very pure in its nature. Loved to watch it!

If you ask my Dad, a 65 years old Chinese, he would tell you this is the greatest movie that ever been made. Thank you Vladimir Menshov for creating such a fond memory for my parents' generation. May you rest in peace.

I have watched this movie many times when i was kid. Could not understand moral of story of course. Now im mother of 3. Kinda understands about life. I found my Gosha ❤️

Будучи подростком я не понимала этот фильм, а Любовь и голуби считала вообще сумашествием. Только повзрослев понимаешь жизнь в этих фильмах. Любой советский фильм пересмотрит с годами каждый раз новые грани открываются, Чудеса просто! Да и лекарство для души в наши то дни.

​@@LinaMstarWhat's not to like? Somebody said that men are the true romantics and I have to agree. This is a beautiful story, but besides that, I liked quite a lot in this masterpiece: from the opening score, to the way it was filmed, the great acting of the main characters and not least for allowing me to get a glimpse into what Russian life in the 60-70's was and draw parallels to how much influence Russia had on its former countries/collonies. You can't imagine just how many things were the same in Romania of the 60's-90's and just how many Russian words we have 'borrowed'.

@@emi-uq8kb I've seen it, its actually one of my absolute favourite Russian movies. The main actor is an absolute prince and I still watch his show. Another spectacular Russian movie (or Russian version), is, Tri Mushkitera. NOT ,the series, its fairly new, but, the movie... with a few parts, I just adore it.

@@Andrei-Marian i absolutely agree, your reply is really refreshing and tbh just confirms my firm belief that in Australia (which is where im living now) people and view points of the world, understanding of family, comradery and friendship have simply never been real, or even understood to their depths. Hence, why, no one I know here of Australian background appreciates this film or the themes explored in it. This is also, why, ive had such a difficult time fitting in and finding friends or people of a similar calibre to me. I have always known I was born in the wrong era, now I'm certain it's time to make my way back to a place I can call home and hopefully belong.

I saw this at an alternative movie theater in Sacramento, California, that showed foreign movies almost forty years ago when I was in my mid twenties going to graduate school at UC Davis. It was an amazing movie then ,and it still is. How right the young girl was, saying that in 20 years life will be so different. I could never would have thought that I would watch this movie again on my Apple iPad in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Сегодня главный Раввинат, местные религиозные советы, раввинатские суды и многочисленные раввинские комитеты имеют огромное и постоянно усиливающееся влияние на жизнь всех граждан страны. Анализируя законодательные инициативы ультраортодоксальных партий в этом правительстве, несложно заметить чётко запланированный процесс реализации их грандиозного плана по превращению Государства Израиль в государство Галахи, в котором религиозные дельцы полностью контролируют образ жизни всех граждан Израиля. Их желание расширить полномочия раввинатских судов, их стремление принять основной закон об изучении Торы, их требование увеличить бюджеты учебных заведений, не преподающих базисные предметы - все это пункты одного широкого и ясного плана: преобразовать Государство Израиль из еврейского государства в религиозное. Они чувствуют слабость Нетаниягу, наслаждаются сиюминутным совпадением интересов с Левином и Ротманом и используют их пыл для достижения своих целей. Вот почему ШАС и «Еврейство Торы» являются самыми решительными противниками любого компромисса в вопросе так называемой юридической реформы, а точнее - юридического переворота. Не секрет, что ультраортодоксальное руководство выступало против создания еврейского и демократического государства Израиль и боролось с сионистским движением в годы, предшествовавшие созданию самого государства. В какой-то момент они, видимо, решили сменить стратегию и начали работать над изменением характера страны изнутри. Это началось с компромисса Бен-Гуриона по вопросу «торато умануто» («его учение - его ремесло») и продолжилось шаг за шагом, через усиление и укрепление религиозных институтов, процессы религиозного законодательства в Кнессете и циничное превращение еврейской религии в инструмент влияния в их собственных руках. Всё это - путём радикализации позиций и отторжения всех тех, кто не согласен с их версией иудаизма и еврейских традиций. Через созданные ими механизмы влияния они фактически монополизировали иудаизм и сделали нелегитимными всех, кто думает иначе, чем они. Они заставили многих из нас забыть, что иудаизм - это не только религия, но и славная история и культура, воспитавшая целые поколения в духе терпимости и открытости. Они пытаются заставить многих из нас забыть о том, что сионистская мечта состоит в том, чтобы создать государство, которое станет домом для всех евреев мира, как религиозных, так и светских. Они сами забывают, что после 2000 лет изгнания мы собрались здесь, на Земле Израиля, как один народ, народ непохожих друг на друга братьев. Они хотят, чтобы мы забыли, что наша национальная стойкость зависит в первую очередь от нашей способности принимать и уважать других. Они просто переписывают историю и внушают нам, что ценность изучения Торы должна достигаться за счёт других ценностей, таких как защита Родины или равенство в несении общественной нагрузки, при этом полностью игнорируя фигуры прошлого, которые вдохновляют многие поколения евреев: Иуду Маккавея, Царя Давида и Иисуса Навина, которые были великими воинами, а также Рамбама, одного из величайших мыслителей иудаизма, который вместе со своей духовной деятельностью занимался медицинской практикой. Мы - «нация стартапов», но делящий наш народ надвое «стартап» ультраортодоксальных интересантов, превращающий нашу страну в галахическое государство, должен закрыться. Поэтому, из уважения к религии и традициям мы должны отдалить дельцов из ШАС и «Еврейства Торы» от центров влияния и принятия решений. Нам нужно прекратить концепцию «их учение - их ремесло», настало время для каждого молодого парня и девушки в этой стране поступить на военную или гражданскую службу вне зависимости от их религии, национальности и пола. Мы обязаны полностью перестать финансировать учебные заведения, которые не преподают основные предметы, чтобы прекратить поощрять невежество и позволить молодым людям интегрироваться в рынок труда и делить с остальными бремя общественной нагрузки. Главный Раввинат должен стать духовным институтом, а не коммерческим предприятием, контролирующим общество. Нужно упразднить и раввинатские суды, чтобы у нас была единая правовая система, как это работает в любой цивилизованной стране. Мы должны остановить и отменить все религиозные законодательные процессы в Кнессете - гражданском законодательном институте государства. Короче говоря, отделение религии от государства -единственный путь спасения еврейского государства и еврейской религии, в противном случае еврейский народ потеряет и то другое.

It's funny - the brown jacket that Katerina wears when she meets Gosha in the city train for the first time, my aunt had that exact same jacket. Makes me smile each time I see it.

A great movie! Three women with different paths and Katya story is a kick in the ass that shows real life for many women, hit bottom but never give up. That's the beauty of strength! Also Gosha comes across as too straight forward. But direct and sincere all the way. This teaches another big lesson, you can't have it all, but an honest partner is gold, someone who will stand by you no matter what. Live of your family life like Antonina, be strong like Katerina, and never be so choosy like Lyudmila. 💪❤️❤️❤️

Я бы не сказала, что Катя достигла дна. Все эти девушки приехали в Москву, чтобы достичь своих целей. Катя единственная, кто собирался поступать в университет. Работа на заводе, бесплатное проживание в общежитии рассматривалась как временные трудности. Ребенок усложнил ее путь, но бесплатный детский сад, хорошие подруги, государственное жилье и целеустркмленность молодой женщины позволили ей осуществить изначальную мечту.

Я посмотрела "Гамлет" будучи совсем маленькой . Я почти не понимала происходящего на экране, но где-то внутри в сердечке, было ощущение чего-то великого. Кстати читала что Лоуренс Оливье очень высоко оценил игру Смоктуновского. Очень хочу пересмотреть этот фильм вновь , но боюсь сейчас буду смотреть на него другими глазами, с высоты прожитых лет.

К своему стыду фильм то смотрела не раз, но не знала про Оскар и Любовь и голуби один режиссёр Меньшов вечная память замечательном человеку🙏🙏🙏

it's not just Russian))) all USSR was mad about Besame Mucho. For my Mom this was the best song of her life

This movie always calm me down like an easy breezy mind massage. I was born after the film was made, but I still enjoy it and think it’s a classic masterpiece.

Still remember when this film was first shown in China, it was a shockingly huge sensation. At that time the two countries were still deep in animosity.

Being born in Soviet ..i feel proud of knowing russian and love this country ! Russian greeks will always feel love for this country .

So happy and thank you for providing us a better understanding and reminder that people are people at heart. Many in far away countries have skewed stereotypes of Texas. I remember before I was born begging God "Please make me middle-classed, white American." So He did that for me and gave me to two Communist, white middle-classed, American parents in the 1950's. Да, интересно вы отметили Рождественский читал стихи! Мне довелось быть в Москве на Д рождения Пушкина и у его памятника тоже стояла толпа и читали стихи .. 1994 год. Позже я зашла в магазин международной книги на Тверской и вдруг туда зашел Ельцин с кучей антуража и журналистов.. я там что то даже говорила в программе время кусочек показали )) и он мне и другим подписал книгу Мемуаров своих Была совсем другая эпоха тогда… Я в который раз пересмотрела этот фильм сегодня для так необходимого позитива .. Уже живя в США почти 30 лет

So much is lost in translation. And in time. Different era, different people. Everything looked so clean and naïve compared to what we have now, > 40 years after this film was made. Russia had many beautiful heroic women. I hope it's still true there. Thank you for bringing these feelings back.

I am living in the US for ~30 years and you probably know how crazy it is here with men pretending to be women by putting dresses on and lipsticks on their mustaches. Sick, repulsive and ugly stuff.

I don't know what have happned and why but it became huge issue now - I heard that up to 20% of children claim to be 'trans' or 'fluid' or 'not-binary'. Some states, like CA where I live, push school children towards chemical catsration and surgeries and hide it from their parents. They call it 'gender affirmation' medicine. Weird and awful. If you can, you should watch 'What is a woman?' documentary by Matt Walsh and you will see this insanity.

the English subtitles weren't any good though, unfortunately...you kinda have to watch it in Russian to get every nuance

I often watch foreign movies with interest on my device .The other day i was searching for a movie when the browser accidentally stopped stopped at a movie and that was Moscow does not believe in tears.Its title seemed to me some what very unique to me.when i started watching it just to pass the time,it turned out to be so interesting that i could not help but watch it till end.The interesting word for this movie seemed very small to appreciate it.

Was born in the USSR. Although grew up in the independent state after the collapse and am not Russian, Soviet movies had a special place in our lives and upbringing. Growing up watched most of them. Interestingly, missed this gem; heard about the title but didn’t know the storyline. So happy watched it for the first time as an adult. Could relate to so many moments; moments from the life, from the past, from the youth of my parents, from my childhood, from today and from the future. In reality, life is a constant marathon. Regardless of our position, requiring morality, strength, maturity, respect, love and hope. Even decades later, if the production feels so actual and real that would define the masterpiece… It’s a reminder to accept the life as it is, live it without drafting and write it with the best colors possible…

@@victoriascranton4322 I was a toddler when the union collapsed and I grew up in a non-Russian state. So, we had programs for the local audience and also, could enjoy Russian channels, but not in a regular basis, as Russian was/is one of the foreign languages in our household. But, I’m glad I discovered it, although in my adult years 😊

I was a Japanese university student when I watched this movie at a Tokyo movie theater. At that time, the Soviet Union was shrouded in a fantasy of workers` paradise, and few Japanese knew real life of Soviet people. This movie taught me quite frankly that life in the Soviet Union was not a heaven on earth but people there loved, suffered anxiety and struggled for better life as we did in capitalist countries.

Are you serious? You thought life in the Soviet Union was like a workers' paradise? Interesting. In the U.S. we saw life in the Soviet Union as a very hard existence. It all depends on the social strata, luck, opportunities given, opportunities taken, etc.; but what I saw watching this movie was that living in the Soviet Union was not much different that living in Europe or the U.S., Canada, Australia, etc. Actually it was much more similar to western lifestyle than I imagined. Very good movie.

But in 1970`s when I watched this movie as a university student, well-educated people such as university professors, journalists etc.had an illusion about communism, and Socialist Party and Communist Party had a lot of seats in the Japanese Diet. Tough I was quite skeptical about left-wing propaganda, I found it very interesting that people on the other side of the iron curtain shared the same human nature as we had. Before I watched this movie, I used to believe that Russians were different kinds of human being. It`s a laughing matter today. I can chat with Russian and Ukrainian people freely about what is going on between the two countries through thread of KZread. It was unthinkable when I was a university student. Hopefully, I wonder if we grass-roots people exchange views through thread, and deter military confrontations as much as possible.

Sadly the translation is bad, some moments are translated poorly, some are ignored even when they talked fast, but still I am very happy even with it people liked it and understood most of it! Not everyone knows but older Soviet films from 30-50s are even better in many ways, but this is so good too, one of the favorite and iconic, deserved an Oscar for sure! And my mother likes it a lot because she had similar path like the main character does.
