Mosaic Damascus | Expectation vs Reality
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
My first try at making mosaic damscus. Very tricky stuff! Congrats to all the makers that make this kind of work look easy. I definitely learned a lot on this one. If you want a more detailed look at this kind of process I suggest you watch the recent damascus playlist by @TyrellKnifeworks it's great!

I think I prefer the reality to the expectation. That was a gorgeous Damascus. Thank you for sharing both your knowledge and learning.
That limit switch looks like it came in really handy getting a nice even thickness and can go so much quicker. No more messing around with blocks and setting them up each time.
The pattern is very clean and uniform. So I think you did a good job.

I agree. I've seen much less interesting damascus patterns used in knives.

Clearly the reality exceeded the expectation! You can’t ask for anything better.
That was a lot of work, wow! To me the result (reality) is better than expectation! Variations and “imperfections” deepen the beauty of the piece. If you finish the blade please post the final result, I’d love to see it. Great work

Thanks!! I will for sure :) Cheers!
Nice job. It might not be "exactly" what you wanted, but it looks really good...

I agree. Deviations in the pattern are inevitable, but BBP's works are always such a joy to watch and behold.
I think it came out great! They never go exactly as expected. To stop the twisting on the first C's, I use a square die on the top of my press and flat die on the bottom to square it. Then it doesn't twist on you.
Gorgeous work, my friend! It was very interesting to see the expectation vs reality at each stage. I'd love to see that more with future damascus projects!

I love how the reality was slightly askew each time; if anything that made it better in my eyes.
Idk, to me in my eyes, Any Damascus Pattern looks Amazing! There is Not a single thing wrong with it, I would buy it 👍
WOW! That was stunning, to me it looked like you created an Oak Leaf pattern. Absolutely beautiful result.
This is why every blacksmith or sword maker is depicted as an old person in movies and video games. It takes a lifetime to perfect these skills...
A true craftsman is someone who has failed more often than others have tried. I will never be on your level, not even on your worst days. Don't forget that under all this tedium and all these mistakes, there's something buried that's special and unique and will more than likely outlive you.
Reality Damascus looking trippy!
One thing I appreciate about you and your channel is that you show your mistakes; I've enjoyed watching you make multiple attempts at casting, and while there may have been mistakes there, I wouldn't say there were any here. You did beautiful work and especially for your first attempt!

Thank you so much! I'll use this for sure.
So it didn't turn out exactly add expected. I think it still turned out stunning. Not even taking in to account that your just beginning the journey of mosaic Damascus! Keep up the great work and thanks for taking us along!
Dure, what a fantastic result for first try of making mosaic. It's not something you should expect to get prefect symmerty straight away, Its very difficult. You did awesome and your mosaic damascus looks great!
The pattern is cool! It looks like it's stitched together! If I made a knife with that pattern, I would call it Frankenstein
It may not be what you wanted, but the pattern looked good. Having the star burst makes it look unique.
Wow even though the final result wasn't the expecation, that still turned out amazing.
it may not look like the expectation. but it still looks pretty dang cool to me
Even your “mess ups” are beautiful hahah awesome man thanks for the video
I think it looks great. It takes a lot to see a project all the way through, especially one with that many steps. Good job man. I am trying to learn to make knives and your pattern and technique is impressive to watch.
Absolutely astonishing, you should make more knives/swords with this kind of or similar patterns. Really inspiring to watch
That pattern is amazing ! I'm thinking more and more about trying mosaic damascus.....
Sometimes imperfections are perfect! Looks sweet! That’d make a nice kitchen/fillet knife!
it looks Amazing Aniway. Stay Awesome man!
If this is your first try you should be proud man... that's beatiful! Please keep going
To me, the whole point of doing patterned steel are the random elements that emerge. Perhaps another bladesmith might fault the end product as not being uniform enough, or complying with their vision of what mosaic should look like, but this is a delightful pattern and who cares whether it measures up to someone's idea of perfection? I'm sure it would sell quickly and the customer would be delighted.
I can't help but watch. It's so mesmerizing to me.
I love the graphics, like TK does. Great video!! And.....that is beautiful Damascus!
That is super neat and inspiring.
Good Lord, I love that beautiful pattern. You really went overboard with the number of layers. Excellent video and truly appreciate your hard work putting out your videos as you do. Thank you and have a Blessed and wonderful New Year.
Very nice. Would the vertical lines every inch or so be a weak point?
Looks outstanding, when you lose so much material in between steps really like it...
Maybe not gone entirely according to plan, but the end result still looks pretty cool. Thanks for sharing!
Gotta start somewhere! Better than 95% of the population could have done so that is a high A! Lol. I love that you shower the reality compared to expectation bc so many talented blacksmiths make it looks so easy. You are very talented and had problems with it. I love the truth in your process.
For the resources you have you are doing some cool stuff man
Happy New Year! Incredible work, as usual. Thanks so much for all your excellent content. Please keep it coming!

I would love to see it finished.
Спасибо за невероятный труд, буду ждать продолжения!).
Very nice work !! Nice and uniform very consistent patterns it looks AMAZING !! I really enjoy your work !!👍👍
An insightful experiment. Thanks!
That is still a really cool patern!
Awesome build. Im wanting to get into mosaic builds now as well now that i have a bandsaw to do the tile cuts.
Just fantastic! Be fun to see under a strong microscope! Your work is brilliant regardless of outcome, in my eyes!
Honestly I think stuff looks better when it isn't perfectly uniform. It shows the true craftmanship and hand making process. Anyway, I think it's gorgeous. Feel free to go ahead and make it into a knife and donate it to me if you don't like it. lol
Looks great!
Amazing, really good job.
That turned out great 👍 👌 👏
Natural flow 👍🏼 amazing work!!
Gorgeous!
Well done!
I really enjoy watching your videos
Wow, beautiful mate. I like it ! Great. Mosaic damascus is one of the hardest damascus types in my opinion. Great Work!
Looks amazing and very unique great job 😎
Great work👍
Fantástico excelente trabajo saludos desde Argentina
thx for the edit on the welding part ^^
Fantastic master!
That was amazing
Wonderful design 👍 you doing awesome. Cheers
Борода постарался на славу))) отличный видос👍
That's a fantastic first effort. Happy New Year!
Amazing
So nice job👌
Beautiful 👍
0:52 Bro just used the essence of the Dark Sabre to weld there....amazing, 😉
Killer brother hope to see another video soon of u finishing it up
You have a warped and distorted reality! 9:49 What would happen if you put your stainless steel foil right below all the sections you are welding up against that plate? Would that plate fall away as you ground the welds off? 10:49 I bet you could boost your sales to the North if you could get that shape just a little bit closer to a maple leaf.
Nice!
Great work sir wow nice thanks for sharing video sir.
Very nice
thank you
awesome 👏
Outstanding pattern will make a beautiful knife thank you for sharing this six stars brother
Nice looking work Sir 👏

@blackbeardprojects is this message from you or is it spam?
Very cool demonstration of how real life and fine details (the devil is in the details) always make huge canges from the expected theory. Wonderful video!
The video was excellent as well. 👍👍
Muito bom ! Parabéns.
Liked the reality much better than the expectations.
Pretty damn good my man...
Cool!
Men, I love your content. And by the way the pattern looks awesome :)

Fantastico lavoro! Aspettative o no, la tua tenacia e pazienza sono sbalorditive 💪🏼 spero di vedere più dei tuoi progetti questo 2023 🎉🔥🍾🔨
the "reality" is very unique so it's art on itself
One day I want to do a metallography on a damascus blade. It would be awesome!
Question; when all that scale is flaking off while you're using the ress, is it taking micro bits of the metal with it, like some kind of oxide or something?
So instead of making one sort of geometric pattern, you made a unique and stunning pattern. If you’re throwing it away, I’ll get in line to take it off your hands. 😁

For reals. I would gladly take it, lols..
Very cool man.. I always want to do this kind of thing.. You are very creative.. How do you visualize what the next pattern is going to be? (I know that you are an expert at this).. Thank you for all the work you do to make these videos. I know how hard it is as I am also trying to start a channel on this platform.. Peace to you and have a great year. Rolfie
the reality is pretty nice looking tbh
What did we learn from this experiment? It's not a failure, its Damascus. It may not be perfect, but we learned from it. The next one will be better
3:25 I am guessing that the uneven thickness of the layers was because the outer layers cooled more than the inner layers? Perhaps re-heating between every pass on the press would have eliminated that issue.
I’m sorry the blanks didn’t turn out the way you wanted. On the plus side, your welding skills have improved. I didn’t see you bring out the welding hammer thing once.
Very nicely done sir. If there was something different you would do next time …….what would you do? The pattern came out nice. Happy New Year I look forward to more of your projects.
Luar biasa...butuh waktu dan pemikiran yang jenius untuk membuat pola damaskus seperti itu.
Фантастическая красота!!!
Fantastic¡¡
If the reality always lived up to the expectation, nothing would be unique.
Can you make defferent types of pattern making video
