I bought this old hydraulic Press to convert it into a blacksmithing forging press.
I don't know exactly what this would have been used for, some kind of production line step for Aluminum Doors judging from the schematics title.
This press came with a bunch of thick scrap steel, that I used to make the dies holders and various spacers, and two extra hoses from the pump unit that I think powered other parts of the system now missing.
Thankfully everything else was all still working and in overall decent shape (except the wiring, which was absolutely terrible).
The 3hp motor runs on three phase and since I re-wired everything I changed the controls to feet switches: the two small ones attached together determine the direction of the piston and the big one lets the oil flow and actually moves the piston.
This way accidental use is unlikely as both switch have to be pressed simultaneously for the piston to move. I could have used any kind of switch but I thought having both hands free is nice, tho I have never used a forging press so if I change my mind I'm ready to rewire things around.
The conversion took around 2 weeks. Making the dies holder and spacer was particularly time consuming as everything is made with very thick stock and I'm new to machining.
One extra positive side of this conversion is that I had to buy nothing more than paint and switches. Everything else is made with the press spare parts!
I can't wait to try making damascus with this new tool!

Extremely cool, man. Not only was it cheaper, but I'm pretty sure you now have a badass press no one else has. I love old stuff upcycled and modernized, this checked all the boxes for me.

Nothing more satisfying than taking something which has already served a good purpose for one lifetime, giving it some love and making it possible for that piece of equipment to be TWICE as useful! Your viewers, the environment, and forging press enthusiasts thank you!!
Awesome ! i need 2 more weeks to wake up my 30 ton press :) New forge is almost completed :)
This is amazing! Love it :D Looks like an extremely useful tool

Old tools are immortal.
That definitely helps me out with my decision to go get that used one I've been looking at. Love it. Thanks for your input.
It's also way cooler to be ecologically responsible and give new life to old equipment. Way to go!
I love this channel and his honest approach to building and learning along the way, knowing his limitations. Very humble and likeable. Thanks for another great video.
And now you also have the added satisfaction of keeping an old machine working. Well done!
You have amazing skills, even without any knowledge in hydraulics. I think you chose the perfect way to get into it
That's a really nice to addition to your shop. And, if may say so, you're getting to be much more comfortable in front of the camera. Your real enthusiasm is showing through much more. Always a pleasure to watch your vids and learn something new.
Wow. I love it. It’s going to do almost everything you need it to do. Great repurposing of a still functional machine. I hope you get many years out of it. As long as you maintain your fluid levels and service your gaskets and joints you should get another ten years out of it I’d think.

it´s a 40 year old machine and it still works, my guess is that it´ll outlive him hahaha
smart choice and smartly customised ...well done 👏🏼
What a fantastic idea. You did really well and created a wonderful press. Thank you for sharing your video. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fantastic bit of machinery. I have a footswitch the same as the two you are using for up and down. Check the the hinge pin regularly, they have a habit of working their way out.
You should add a cylinder speed control -probably some kind of needle valve (flow valve?Im not a hydraulics expert)on a pipe that controls down motion . That way you would be able to reduce cylinder speed to give more control and precision for detail work and if you open it it would go fast as now for fast working.

better solution is to change the cetop3 valves. Valves on this are ON/OFF valves. Changing valves to propotional control valves gives you the option to controll both movements with foot pedals. and for installing you only need the propotional control box ( sort of a PC chip) and the valves. IF you slow it down with a needle valve you are running on risk that the oil starts to heat up and making air bubbles. And those arent good for cetop valves.
That is a serious press, and a great addition. Great job on putting that together!
Great transformation and hope it serves you well for years to come!! Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Fantastic for your kind of work! Well done Thanks
Absolutely amazing. You're a genius
Good job man👍🏻, you have golden hands🔥
Your English is better every video. Good work there, and on this great repurposed machine. It will be nice to see some of your unique knife designs.

Super appreciate your channel. Big thanks from Detroit
Nice machine! I've literally been making dies for a press I've converted into a forging press myself! I too wanted something ready to go that I could tailor to my needs. :)
Clever. We shared this video in our homemade tools forum this week :)
just an amazingly talented dude... love your vids, your editing rocks too.
Works well, nice job repurposing it. I would like to see it have a nice paint job, but, gray works also. Good job sir 👍👍
looks realy cool man, i love when people upgrade and recycle old machines. you could add some adjustable stop blocks
Excellent work 👍👍👍 . Thanks for sharing
Sweet press. Lovely action to that control!

absolutely incredible repurposed machine. excellent results 👍😎👍
This is awesome 😍 great idea and great job
definitely an interesting application of the press, you have very high control of accuracy with it compared to hammering :D
So, so well done! I love it
Outstanding project thanks for sharing with us
Awesome conversion
As usual, brilliant work
So enjoyable video. Cheers man 👍
A wonderful project! You already have a large number of machines, which is great. I dream of such)
Amazing work!
Great job. Well done.
Great work 👍🏻
Ficou uma prenssa de profissional.....parabéns...
Hi, I wish I had so much space to work too. I'm already looking forward to seeing the first use of the press. ... and may the pressure be with you ... or ... live long and with pressure ... 😁
I love how he looks like he'd punch you in the throat for eyeballin him but then he talks and just couldn't be a nicer, more pleasant person lol what an awesome man. Respect.
another great vid by the legend!

Nice choice on the machine. It looks like it will work well for you.
Very nice conversion. Super useful. Now... to make a set of dies for fullers etc.!
Wonderful. Looking forward for future videos
nice job as always
Very good upgrade for your workshop !!! Soon you'll need more space inside...
It works at a slower speed than what I usually see in forging videos, so the material will probably cool down a lot quicker due to heat transferral. It's a good transformation, and definitely different than the typical stock.
Beats the hell of hammering.
Thats cool man, always more fun doing it urself. Good job. 🇺🇲🤙
yooooooooooo cant wait to see you making homemade damascus billets with the new press hell yeah!!!
Truly impressive 👍
WTG man, nice acquisition.
That isa great idea! Never thought about doing that!
👍👍👍👍👍👍 Great job! Thanks for sharing.
It's funny you say you don't know that much about hydraulics. I would be afraid to attempt such a project because I would consider it pretty advanced. Awesome job and certainly better than some of the log splitter conversions I've seen.

This beast wil be handy to fold damascus, like shurap does! Great job! :-D

BRILLIANT!!
12:28 i love how honest you are by not oversell your build or exaggerate your reason. Although i got baffled by why mobile games sponsoring this kinda channel, but all is good as long as you got paid. Good work as always!
Amazing repurposed tool. Put a protective covering over those hoses. That would be quite a mess otherwise. Love what you got there.
Gotta be over the moon with that BBP 💪
Pretty sure that press will fit your needs jus fine 👍🏽👌🏽
You my friend do awesome work 👍
...good one, that should get 'er done. stay safe...
Rapaz, tu és um gênio! Valeu!
Very nice !! Way to reuse something and make it yours for your shop it will serve very well !!👍👍
Excellent job buddy.
Looks good 👍👍 Excited to see it being used on some projects. Seems like its a little short for you though.
From an electronics/controls POV, I would recommend upgrading the switch to a spring loaded foot pedal, with the resting position wired to send the press back up. With some limit switches (several to be safe) on the press itself to act as the "off/stationary" position. Just a thought. It would come down as you press the pedal, go back up when released, and stop just at the top. I have a log splitter thay works similarly.
Super cool! I really dig it.. nice machine!
Nice work
Good work👍
Ottimo lavoro 💪🏻
Cool restoration! Another tool in your arsenal for the dagger challenge.
Good job, Bro! Now you can say I made it myself!
So cool thank you!
Blacksmithing shop coming together nicely. I hope we see some Damascus in the future!
Brilliant .
Great video 👍
