Mortgage Lending Changes: Could This Cause a Rise in House Prices? | Ireland AM

Muireann and Tommy are joined by Financial Advisor Karl Deeter and Assistant Professor Rory Hearne to discuss the Central Bank easing its mortgage lending limits.
Rory tells them he thinks it is a "mad decision" and believes that this will cause a rise in house prices.
Karl Deeter points to the problems within the construction industry for the reduction of houses being built in Ireland.
He also states that this lending limit change could be a good thing and that the change "is a broadening of the fairness of the system."
"No one looks at the idea of reckless renting, but we suddenly get all prudent when it comes to reckless mortgages."

The most sensible suggestion here was to set up a state development company who would/should Not be profit orientated. More importantly where construction workers would be paid as public servants and entitled to same working conditions and a public service pension. This would remove the job insecurity that the housing crash of 2008 has instilled in the industry. We need young people to train for this industry and increase workforce If we are ever to get out of the housing shortage.

@@mrmc2465 I am not suggesting removing private developers, simply to form another kind of developer who would build houses cheaper and be able to continue building even in times like now, when building costs are so high, that private developers cannot afford to build. It might also create some competition, which is always healthy.

Yes, I think it's pretty obvious that prices will increase and I would have preferred if we kept the current 3.5 cap

How is it reckless renting if you don't have a choice in renting options? People are prudent about reckless buying because that's what sank the economy last time

Oh God.. We still have to listen to BS on mortgages. This problem stated after the banking crash. When all mortgages should have been rest by 35%. Didn't the bank write off there losses and write it off against future taxes. We find have enough house.. Yet we take in every way and stray from Europe
