The way I feel they'll bring back Mileena (as the real Mileena everyone loves) is they're gonna use this ones soul and put it into a new and better body modeled after Kitana to make her more stronger so the same soul but in a different powerful body

That was indeed Reptile. When Mr. Tsung is talking to Mileena, he says "Send in the reptilian, Syzoth". Syzoth is Reptile's actual name.

I needed Jax to give Reiko a shove into the spikes, that would've been dope for me

I took Cole's power as a physical manifestation of his fighting style, in that he deliberately takes hits and doesn't defend himself so he can try to bear down on his opponant. SO I took his power as his body trying to defend itself in the face of actual death.

7:28 In the movie when Kung Lao teleported in to Liu’s rescue. Liu called him “師兄” (Shi xiong) which was subbed in Englsih as ‘cousin’ The term actually means ‘senior academy fellow/apprentice’. Liu was found as an orphan before he joined the Wu Shi academy and met Kung Lao, who was already a student there and that’s why Liu called him ‘shi xiong’. In Chinese culture,It’s one of the respectful titles that is used when we address or refer to the others who are senior than us.

Regardless, his power is literally plot armor. It removes all suspense from any of his fights because he's impossible to kill unless you cut his head off. If he was just able to summon tonfas, that would have been way better.

There is a Remix entrance theme song of Nathan Jones in the original SmackDown vs Raw (2004) game but he isn't in the game so I can pick the entrance theme song for Reiko

I think Kano's death will make him the Kano we used to know. He was stabbed in the eyes (Making the cybernetic eye) and then the Cybernetic heart as a life-support purpose.

When Kano dies and Sonyas mark shows up she's like: "Heck yeah im in the game!" also they should introduce Gnometality as an easter egg in the game for Sonya.

When Shang Tsung is talking to Mileena he tells her to go get the reptilian creature known as Syzoth. Syzoth is his name in Canon.

The problem I had with Shang Tsung is that he didn't show any facial expressions.

23:45 yep unfortunately it was Reptile. Shang Tsung said "Send the reptilian Syzoth" or something like that in the movie. Syzoth is Reptile's real name. In MKX there is a intro dialogue between Reptile and Raiden. Raiden says that name and Reptile says "you know my true name". So it was Reptile and he died. :(

His devotion to MK is great for the fan base and the game itself but I felt in his review he was way too generous. I get it, he wanted to show love but the writing was bad. Mk is rich in lore, and the movie doesn't capture it. But I'm hoping that sequel brings forth better writers

Imagine if Timo Tjahjanto would of directed mortal kombat 😳🤯. Watch “the night comes for us” on Netflix if you want to see how mortal kombat fights would look without the restrictions of Warner Bros. Joe taslim stars in it as well. Mortal kombat feels like a pg movie compared to that lol.

I can feel this review. Probably one of the fairest and balanced reviews I've seen to date. I'm a fan regardless. I mostly enjoyed everyone's interpretation, as I think the goal was for the production company to do well enough to secure a franchise, no big deal... I was captivated by Sub Zero's interpretation, he was basically the MK edition of the Winter Soldier. Pun intended 😁

Yea there was no blue in his outfit which foreshadowed noob saibot but if we get noob we need smoke or cyrax and were all thinkin it im just saying it: we want the timeline heading towards mk 11 because i want to see them fight kronika and we wanna see shao kahn kill kotal kahn

I do think that this is going down the Quan Chi path, you can hear faintly when Scorpion is returning to the fires of hell "Hasashi Hanzo, Scorpion..." like a voice is summoning him there, this would likely be Quan Chi.

Kabal has been treated amazingly well, considering all the characters featured and the few lines he was given. The voice actor was amazing too. Subzero, Kung Lao and Sonya were extremely accurate imo. Last but not the least, the decision to threw Reiko and Nitara on the movie was a great call for me. I played the 3D era games too so I definitely enjoyed that. They can always bring them back, nobody really dies on the MK universe.

I loved your spoiler review, by far the most unbiased I have watched so far, thanks for keeping it real

One thing I noticed the second time was Liu Kang said he unlocked his Arcana instantly as well after killing the guy with the orphans.

Everyone got super powers and Cole got literal plot armour for no reason

You know it would be amazing, that Joe Taslim Interpreted Kuei Lian claiming to be the twin brother or could be the direct descendant of Bi Han having the scar, but without any doubt, Sub Zero as much as Bi Han or Kuei Lian has to be played by Joe Taslim without any doubt, greetings from Argentina !!!!!

What you said about having Goro killing Lao would have definitely resolved the issue of Kung Lao being off’d so easily and generating a feeling of Goro being powerful.

I loved the “Flowless Victory” phrase in the movie.

If I can try and get one point across as to why I'm positive even tho the movie was subpar. It's that if we support this movie it opens the door to other MK projects and they can take the criticism and make the perfect MK movie for part 2. I mean we didn't even get the torny yet so there is hugeeee hope!

Yess But we don't know Nightwolf will appeared in MK 2,MK 3 or Mk 4? We also know Mortal Kombat will make a sequel after Joe Taslim signed His acting for Sub-Zero not 2 not 3 but 4 sequel Wooooooowww!!!!!

The problem was Cole Young. If he wasn't in it you would had plenty of time to flesh out the legacy characters.

Why would they even introduce new characters when the MK fans are completely fine with the current cast/roster. They could’ve given us Liu Kang as the main character and i woulda loved it

I think Cole young was necessary. Because without Cole, it's a total repetition of the story we know. With him it's a different storyline but still basing things from the games. That way non-gamers dont just suffer with gamers spoiling everything lol

Bi Han and Kabal were the two best characters by a mile. That being said, Scorpion, Kung Lao and Kano were also pretty rad

Cole Young's armor (I think) is from a foreshadow in the beginning of the movie where the gym owner says that he can't just be a punching bag in the ring, he has to defend and attack...so his arcana allows him to still be that punching bag and then allow him to attack. I also saw a resemblance to the Black Panther costume.

Sonya most likely had the training she needed without the marking, so when she got her mark she new what she had to do, and she grew a bond with cole and wanted to save him

Biggest thing I want to see is a longer run time. Next film should easily be 2.5 hours. It would be nice to also see Raiden in combat.

The movie is the reason how I got into MK. My mom used to play MK when she was young, one of the first three games. She found the movie on NOW TV and decided to watch it. I didn’t have interest but at the same time I stayed in the same room with her and when we finished it, I loved it and started playing MK11. I watch some MK storyline summary here just to at least know what’s going on with the story. I understand some, but I kinda need to know characters that aren’t in or are just cameos in MK11 and maybe watch some story mode gameplay from previous games

Please don’t make me wait until I’m 30 to see Shao Kahn at the end😭😭 I thought I would see him in the movie but nope. I don’t even think they said his name.

they should get johnny cage for the sequel. many people were sad he wasnt in this one. trying to think of an actor who would be a good fit for the role. someone who can do jokes & dark humor like ryan reynolds in deadpool.

One thing i liked was how Nitara was built up with Shang, and then her flying around Kung Lao for abit... you're expecting something big from her and he dodges her and kills her straight away. Loved that!

If Jax had tiny Rex metal arms and got a upgrade, Sonya easily could have a weak arm gun, some kind of shooting machine attached to her arms, so when she shows up to shot Mileena, the gun would shoot the stronger energy as a surprise. It's THAT easy.. How they can screw up things like that?

Scorpion was legit. Would love to see the full backstory.

They built up cole like he was going to be the reincarnation of scorpion and he just ended up being wish black panther with absolutely 0 drip

I personally think Cole is actually pretty cool, but this comment was funny so I had to leave a like.

Sonya has been researching all this for years so I think her powers were already there but she just needed the mark to activate it, Kano and Cole were more newer to the lore etc!

I loved everything and everyone. Sonya was my fav to my own surprise. Kano was great as well. Like I said I loved everything and everyone. Phenomenal. Edit: One small detail I liked was how after Shang Tsung gushes about Nitara's beuty you can see Mileena glaring at her, most likely out of jealousy. Fitting imo.

I can confirm that Reptile indeed was in the movie. Shang Tsung called on the reptilian, Syzoth. Syzoth is Reptiles real name. His minutes on screen were awesome and I loved his look.

@@F0NZ13 absolutely. He looked, moved and fought exactly as I would expect from Reptile. Especially the invisibility aspect. The bit with the flare to make him “visible” was really clever

My guess on Kung Lao coming back is, they figure out a way to extract his soul from Shang Tsung. That way they can setup that Shaolin Monks movie without it having to be a prequel.

My guess is we might be introduced to Kenshi and Ermac in the next movie. I'm thinking that Ermac would be like his old timeline counterpart, having defected to Earthrealm's side after fighting Kenshi and the two have journeyed together since then. Ermac could use his powers to free Kung Lao's soul from Shang Tsung.

I need Kitana in the next movie! I wished Shang Tsung and Raiden had a more commanding presence. The characters were okay

Maybe it wasn’t Reptile. In his story, Reptile is the last of his race. In the next film, his race could already be extinct and then we’ll see Reptile in Ninja form. Just a guess....

So if you said Hanzo or Scorpion, its the same person. Shang Stung said,” send the reptilian Syzoth.” The only character in mk called Syzoth is Reptile. Reptile is a Zartaran, but his name is literally Syzoth. The reptilian creature we see in the film is referenced as Syzoth/aka Reptile. Its reptile no doubt. I disagree that Jax is a "token black guy". He's been with the game since 1993 and has earned some respect. I really liked the Reptile. I was concerned when they showed him in the trailer, but he looked really cool in the movie. I enjoyed the movie for what it was, a video game movie. I would love to see Erron Black, Jade, D'Vorah and Fujin in future MK movies.

i might know why sonya learned her Arkana so quickly. Kano already unlocked his Arkana so when the marking is transfered to sonya, she already has her Arkana because Kano had already unlocked his.

They shouldn't have had the arcana or dragon tattoo mechanics at all. No need for that in a world of foreign realms, thunder gods, and demon samurais. They wasted so much of the movie's running time on that crap, what if instead we saw Mileena Goro and Shang Tsung actually do intimidating things to give their characters presence and a scary factor?

I think kuai liang will appear as sub zero's descendent because bi hans age is nearly 200 years as he said he killed hanzo centuries ago.

With Sonya unlocking her Arcana it is possible since Lui Kang when he tell his Story he says as soon as he killed the dude and took the Mark at that precise moment he got his Arcana. So having Lui Kang say that is what sets up Sonya doing it immediately without any issue. Now does it make much sense No but that's why it was possible.

The tv series could be called White lotus and be centered around Liu Kang and Kung Lao and some of raiden training them.

That is the line Shang Tsung said to Raiden after Subzero died. Shang said "Today you killed my warriors and you think you have won. But death is only another portal." Why would Kabal have said that at any time throughout the movie, he was burned not killed.

Idk, I just want a 'Fire & Ice' spin-off movie. Opening scene was awesome. Sub-Zero and Scorpion together on-screen.... Pure gold. I need that movie with Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim.

If Shang tsung has a bunch of revenants for his army (all dead characters this game and a few others that we haven’t seen yet) for the tournament and if earth realm wins, they all go back to normal and they are all back as normal. Edit: for Sonya, I think cause she did all the training before she got the mark, when she got it, she could use it straight away.

Mortal Kombat 2021 is just like a pre-qual which explains about how the kombat actually started between realms. Which kinda make sense.

That's a weak explanation of why the realms fight each other. They could've done better job going way back back at the beginning of the tattoo, origins of Raiden/Shang Sung, what is out world how and why they want earth realm... . It feels they want to explain the movie for non fans but leave stuff that only fans can understand....

@@xzgun100 yes it is weak explanation but I think that's what the Warner bros and nether realm wants. It's like if you like the movie ( non fans of MK) and if you want to know the stories behind these characters then you have to play the game. In the end I think it's their marketing strategy.

@@Krishnakujur78 yeah I understand but it was poorly executed as a cinematographic point of view. It was too casual not enough depth. It felt more like an episode of a serie than a movie. I thought it was a fine movie. It was just missing some umph here and there to make it epic.

Man I loved this movie, just stupid fun, I'm most excited to see my boy Noob siabot. I thought they did great work getting the base for the universe set up.

Excellent review ! I had a slight issue w Sonya & her arcana too . However . Lui Kang did say when he "stole" the arcana from holder it 'auto' granted him his fire power . I think that detail is kinda cool
