I feel like it's more akin to Seth McFarlane and family guy. The original creator got all his main ideas out and the franchise continued, so now he just lets everybody else do what they want.

Josh Lawson really did us Aussies justice, the constant banter, natural swearing, off the cuff nicknames were amazing.

They made one of the most hate-able characters in the series relatable, likable and sympathetic, and they made the hero we’re supposed to identify with an identity-less tired archetype. They truly failed at their job.

I think he would’ve just gotten stronger. Cole’s plot armor arcana is teased in the beginning when the Ref says that he’s not good at defense. So, his arcana included armor that defended him from attacks. Is it plot armor? Yeah. But it does make sense. Edit: I’ve just realized that the arcana takes your weakness or emotion/personality, and that’s how your power is selected.

I know it's been a while - but the answer is pretty much what you already said. His arms would just turn metal instead. Hell, this is literally how Jax'es powers worked in the Old MK games - the Prosthethic Arms is something they retconned later on.

Kano is a great artist, actually... Like, as an artist myself I have to point out the obvious but interesting elephant in the room; *he’s legitimately good!* Kano has such a good style rooted in realism! The details are wonderful and the fact he did it just in pen makes it more impressive - I want to see Kano’s artistic side explored somehow. Maybe not in an awful movie. Perhaps in a comic? Kano is one of my favorite villains of all time and this is a good example of humanizing them. Kano likes to draw! That’s such a cute fact about him. Is he self taught? What’s the story behind his (seemingly) causal interest in art? He’s talented, I like that a lot.

Two things that really bugged me: 1. You can very clearly see the Johnny Cage flyer in the beginning of the movie when Cole is at the gym. And then later they pull a "I KNOW WHO THAT IS" at the end like it wasn't in plain view of the camera earlier. 2. In the same vein of "Cole doesn't know Japanese"... How does Scorpion know English? How does he know how to say "Get over here"? Was he using Duolingo in the Netherrealm for 400(0) years?

Fun little theory i just came up with, MK2021 is the very first timeline Kronika created, and because she was still inexperienced, when trying to make Johnny Cage, she accidentally made King Coled, which she immediately retconned out of existence in the next timeline. There you have it, kind of a stupid little idea that popped into my head

I honestly think Cole should have been added when the MK3 plot line was happening. Only reason why is because it’ll be more interesting if someone who survived the invasion was around. The characters that we love did their stuff already, and it’ll bring something knew to the screen that they haven’t done before

@@Henry-iz7iv Dude 1. Johnny Cage is great character. But being funny won't be enough to save the movie. And I know there's more to Johnny, but still wouldn't save the movie. 2. There isn't even a fucking tournament, so what's the point of this being called Mortal Kombat, if it isn't about Mortal Kombat 3. They should've just been developing the characters they have already, not the ones It needed. Cole could've been interesting, but they just wanted walking plot armor. Again you're aiming wayyyy to high for this movie, with there being more flaws than just characters by themselves. Having Johnny would at least make this film a 6 to 6.5/10 which is, and honestly where it belongs.

Your movie review was a thousand times more entertaining than the actual movie 🤣 I admit that I laughed uncontrollably during various parts. Everything was glorious. From the editing to the voice-over, to the Cole Puns and the highlighting of how much this movie made zero sense. Thank you for being so hilarious.

Pai Mei was a cruel teacher, he was harsh and pushed past physical limits but he did that merciless teaching to push his students to be so much better and without him The Bride would have been killed real quickly during the film. Honestly, they could implement raiden doing nothing to save Kung lao into the next movie by resurrecting Kung lao as a revenant, giving Kung lao a reason to hate raiden, since he just watched him die.

The Reptile segment aged like milk with how he got such awesome treatment in MK1.

This movie angered me so much, how hard is it to stay at least semi faithful to the source material. It's not that difficult. To even make the next film work they need to retcon half of this one. That's how stupid it is. kill Cole young in the first scene and somehow bring Goro back...maybe have it turn out that was not Goro and just another Shokan...I don't care how stupid the reason is.

Bi-Han finally gets respect that he was long denied in the games.

Especially how easy it was for Cole. In the Games, even when they defeated Goro, they had a hard time killing him with Liu Kang's Fire. Here, he gets stabbed without any problem...

They killed the champion of the fucking tournament before they even had the damn tournament. That's like having Barry Horowitz defeat Hulk Hogan in 10 seconds on the Wrestlemania preshow. These writers were absolute trash.

Cole Young's ability originally being where he could make things from whatever was seen in the concept art would have been so much better and possibly could have given him a pretty good spot in a future game. Can you imagine all the combos or moves you could pull off? It'd be pretty awesome

Amazing work, dude! This makes me happy for every quarter I spent in the arcade, every MK game I purchased, every adaptation I watched and read, just so I could watch this video with a full understanding and appreciate the bounty of points made. You ROCK, dude! Bravo! Keep up the brilliant work.

Johnny Cage always acts like the audience in every game and movie he’s in. He’s always the naive one learning and adapting to the Mortal Kombat world. We didn’t need Cole.

Just goes to show just because you're R rated with blood and guts doesn't mean its automatically good. the first MK movie still has such a charm to it to this day despite having little to no blood at all.

@@jackalcoyote8777 we all know and that's why the Arcana is stupid, Liu Kang and Kung Lao use chi/ magic for their abilities but because the studio wanted an explanation for the powers for ALL the(earthrealm) characters they made the Arcana making jax's arms, sonias energy rings and kanos laser beam, all be magic instead of tech which is what made them unique(it also helped make them stand out/characterized them a bit)

My biggest gripe about Shang Tsung Is that he doesn't scheme anything, he doesn't smile mischievously and he doesn't mock Raiden for his decisions

41:10 - 41:22 my theory is they were trying to imply that liu is angry at kabal because he prevented him from saving kung lao so therefore he's angry at kabal regardless if it is or is not good writing (it's not) they didn't do a good job at showing that Again I believe they were trying to imply that liu is angry at kabal because he prevented him from saving kung lao

1:18 "The good, the bad, and the Cole Young" Lol, it's hilarious that Cole is so bad that he has his very own list.

Also I forgot to mention: I don't think Mileena's actress should have played Mileena. I think she would have actually been better as Skarlet. You have a better personality fit to have this movie's version of Mileena actually be Skarlet: being able to detect the blood of the "chosen one", the more serious demeanor, not needing all the backstory to Kitana (so it doesn't have to be cut from the movie in the first place), and being lent to Shang Tsung to follow his orders (given that I think Skarlet's slightly more dispensable to Shao Kahn than Mileena, since Mileena's supposed to be the heir to his throne).

@@animatedink2529 Ehhhh, I'm on the fence with that. Tanya's supposed to be more manipulative, cunning, and overall someone you absolutely don't trust. They'd have had to rewrite this character completely. This whole movie messed up by not having Kitana being the debuting Edenian. Now Mileena is dead and we won't see ANY proper interaction with her and Kitana unless in the next movie (if there is one) introduces Quan Chi and revives her as a Revenant.

@@Facade953 I have to slightly disagree on that too, Edenians were always supposed to be more based off of vaguely Asian ethnicities; MK11 kind of messed it up when they heavily reworked Kitana and Sindel but Jade’s facial structure didn’t change. Which is why the actress would be a better fit for Skarlet since she’s not even truly human. Or if they do time-travel bullshit in the next movie, she would have been a fantastic Jacqui Briggs.

I feel like Sub-Zero is more of the boss in this film than Shang Tsung. There isn't even an epic final fight with Shang Tsung, it's with Sub-Zero. Raiden just teleports Shang Tsung away.

@@Biologicalerror If you count 'Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath' (since Raiden and Kung Lao boarded separate boats, it's likely that Raiden could've prevented Kung Lao's (implied) death if he had known that he was under attack), that'll be 3 nickels.

Apologies in advance for the essay I’m about to write on your 8 month old comment 😂😂 Correct me if I’m wrong here, but wasn’t original timeline Kabal always played as a sort of anti-hero, rather than an outright villain? Pretty sure his origin was that he was immolated by Outworld’s extermination squads during the invasion, so while he may not have been directly allied with Raiden’s defenders of Earthrealm, he still wanted his revenge on the people that tried to kill him. If I’m remembering right he was later retconned to be a Black Dragon member, and he eventually took over leadership of the faction after Kano died, but even then his goal for the clan was to cause complete anarchy and chaos which kinda makes him more neutral as opposed to truly evil I guess? Like I said, could be totally wrong on that cause it’s been a while since I played the 3D era stuff, but I think I prefer him that way.

I’m sorry… what?! 11:58 WHO THE HECK MADE THIS DECISION TO NOT MAKE THAT HAPPEN?!

The editing, writing, and pace really killed this movie

I'm glad I lived long enough to see the best Mortal Kombat movie of all time, in 1995 Edit: And FALSE, Sonic. Trevor Goddard was and will always BE the definitive version of Kano.

I miss '95 Raiden. Even MK11 got that right

They put the entire budget in the first 7 min. The rest was crap. They hyped me for 6 YEARS and it ended up being disappointing. It was honestly a waste of time for me. The characters were horrible.

"they cannot pull the same shit twice and expect us to eat it up again" dude, there are 5 Bayformer movies, we have no standards.

Says a lot about a movie when one of it’s most memorable moments is just a perfectly timed “the fuck?”

You know something cool and could of been an incredibly good shock for the audience. Let Reptile sneak attack the team by doing a brutal fatality to Cole Young in the cabin scene. What a great subversion in the film to kill what people thought the main character was. Which would of worked perfectly the film would of course had to change and could of been supporting Sonya who couldn’t be in the training as she didn’t have an acharna. Could of been a good character to follow. And to even push arcana’s out the way, you could have Raiden have a line about Arcana’s help channel your chi to use your inner potential but with enough training you can unlock it without one. Hence Johnny Cage is already a beast like other characters in the movie who you dont see their arcana done.
