MK11 is the first fighting game I’ve played properly. I’ve played Injustice 2 but never got into combos and techniques, so I can basically say that MK11 is my first fighting game. The first character I picked was Skarlet, and she’s still my main to this day, as well as one of my favourite fictional characters of all time. I guess you could say that she’s been with me on my journey of learning how to play fighting games. Because of how much fun I had with her, I’m now obsessed with this franchise, and fighting games as a whole. For me, she was a great first character to play, with easy combos and zoning. Granted, I don’t do zoning much, which I guess is a little weird since Skarlet is a zoner haha. I am definitely not the best player around, but if I play as Skarlet online, I have a very decent chance of winning. I know people say she needs buffs, but I simply need to use her if I’m gonna win. Then again, I haven’t spent as much time with the other characters so I guess that’s a reason lol. I’d highly recommend Skarlet to new players. She was certainly a good choice for me😊

Same here, just picked up MK11 as my first real fighting game a couple weeks ago and been playing mostly Skarlet. I love here character design and i'd say she's easy to start learning the game with.

I’ll say this because I know many of you won’t watch until the end. I decided to NOT PUT THIS LIST IN ORDER. And I’ll explain why. Each one of us enjoy a different style of play and have different learning curves, so some of you might find scorpion or liu kang hard but baraka, or kabal easy or someone else which is fine. As long as you find someone that you find easy to play that is what matters.

Liu kang isn’t really as easy as you think you have to have timing know how to mix up, know what’s safe, know when to throw and a lot of the time it feels like you can’t do the flying kick reason why is bc people wait for you to do it to punish

After playing this game for a year and getting pretty good at it, I can say this video is really helpful. I'd like to see u make a top 5 hardest characters to learn, since this video is really helpful for beginners and will keep players from giving up on the game due to how hard it is for some to learn and get into the fighting games. Trust me, I have a lot of friends that don't play fighting games and am trying to help them learn how to play them.

Lui kang is more difficult than a lot of characters up close. When your opponent knows the game well. His zoning is way easier to pick up.

I wouldn't call Kabal that easy. At least if we take Clean Cut and Mean Streak variations. Both require some practice at least with combos that include enhanced Saw. I agree with other choices.

Ser Lukas as a kabal player I can confirm that mean streak is the hardest variation to use. You have to be extremely precise with the dash cancels and enhanced buzzaw to extend combos.

I seem to always want to defer my mains to the ones I grew up with. Like the MK to Mk3 family. I rarely give the new characters time lol.

Kabal is the harmonica of MK. EASY to pick up and play, but when you see someone really good with it, it seems impossible.

I would add Sonya, at least for me, is a really good character and easy to play, good mixups, good projectiles with KB, a fine kombo ender (BF2)

Kano is also great cuz his forward 2 into down back 3 into forward 2 into back forward 3 is a great and ez 330 damage combo. His back 3, forward 4, back 4 and back 2 are great mixups .Back 2 is a mixup and also a combo starter. You play aggressive and will be in the opponents face all the time making for a fun, aggro and rowdy matchup!

Why is Sub-Zero always so much harder to play than Scorpion? I never got that! They’re easily the 2 most recognizable characters, and you CAN play well with Sub-Zero, but it takes so much more practice for not that much of an increased potential.

Top 1 pick is wrong. It should be Liu Kang. Yes Scorpion easy to play if you are REALLY beginner but it's relatively bad kharakter and you will struggle later on. It requires way too much. Easy to pick up, hard to master and play at high levels. However Liu Kang easy and op kharakter from beginners to pros.

Jade is very easy, only took me a week to learn with her.

I think kollector should've been here. He's a pretty honest character as well and his specials looks like combo strings that would make beginners feel like they are doing something without really doing much.

I bought this game on release, but only recently started playing it more seriously. Really enjoying your content and thorough information.

My mains-Lui Kang, Sonya, Sub Zero, Jade & Spawn. Really hoping Fujin jumps in there

Take into account that this is my personal opinion, the simplicity of the characters I think is somewhat subjective because of the following: when I started playing mk11 I leaned towards Liu Kang, it was my favorite in mkX and it always seemed simple to me in gameplays, there are a thousand movements that you can do with this character that escape from what everyone else does. The problem is that everyone does the same thing as a robot and if you play against someone who knows him well they will kick your ass, for example: when they play Scorpion it is like going back to see the chapter of a TV series that you know whats gonna happen, they always move the same and react in the same way to what you do making them too predictable, for example starting the second round I start with a flying kick at the first moment and BOOOMM! Most of the time it is efective because they are used to seeing Liu Kang always do the same and the same and they trust themselves because they believe that I am going to throw a low fire ball that is common and sometimes it hits them until the crushing blow. When I started to practice with Sonya I realized that she was a somewhat an easier character to learn and it is not the same easy to learn than complexity of situations when playing online.

I can definitely agree about Scorpion. I got the game 3 weeks ago and picked scorpion as my main(cause I love hanzo's story and character) and he is great to learn fundamentals and neutral with. Definitely a great pick for new players

Noob 88 try playing scorpion vs Liu Kang and sonyas. Easy to master, yes. But not easy to use effectively against online players. Everyone knows scorpions strings and teleport of scorpion is pretty bad. He got mediocre pokes and in general isn’t a quick character.

alvaro.chileno bruh the dude in the video talks about frames for pokes and all of that. So it’s not just “how easy it is to play him” he clearly talks about how good the character itself is as well. Why would frames be relevant to being able to easily learn a character. Maybe watch the actual video? He even mentions the frames with kabal. Frames have literally nothing to do with learning a character. Or that kabal is safe on block with several attacks. Why would that be mentioned in smthn for a character that you can easily learn. He clearly states things that are helpful for a beginner by default. Something a player can’t change or control. Kabal is hard to punish is what he said with certain strings. I don’t think you can “learn” that. It’s just the way the character is and the advantage he has. 1:51 about characters having trouble punishing kabal and at the ending of Kabals part. “Easy to play character because it’s hard to punish him” that is something referring to how good the character is. Is it not? Having strings that are not punishable? Sounds to me like it’s something u can’t control and is just the way kabal is programmed. Learning frames on easily playable characters has nothing to do with learning how to play a character. It’s just advantages of the characters towards others. Shut up and rewatch the video of him talking about good features of the characters themselves.

My mains are Noob Saibot and The Terminator. I want to additionally main Johnny Cage, but currently not good enough with him online. I HATE playing against Scorpion players online and KANO generally!

I main Scorpion. He taught me all the fundamentals and made things much easier for me like creating 2 bar combos and mix ups. Also despite him being my main, I find him so hard to face against someone who is quick and has a strong offense.

Scorpion does lack speed in some of his moves, but its fair because these moves are pretty good and should be spaced out correctly to get the best out of them. If someone is pressuring you, you should avoid using these strings without establishing some frame advantage (with a d3 or a d1) or creating some space between you. If you're using second variation and feel like you're staying too close to the opponent after some strings and at a frame disadvantage (which allows them to take your turn and pressure you), you can try first and third variations. Reborn has the best mobility and allows you to safely retreat after using unsafe moves or safe moves that leave you right next to your opponent (all that at the cost of 1 bar). It also allows you get closer to your opponent fast by meter burning the hellport (but you're not at plus frames so watch out). Oh and it also has an air throw Burning spectre, on the other hand, makes b 1,4 better because you can cancel into misery blade stance 3, which gives you plus 11 on hit (so you can pretty much use any slow scorpion mid after that) and leaves you safe at minus 6 but with a bigger distance from your opponent than b 1,4,3. You can also cancel misery blade by meter burning it right after b 1,4, which yields you plus frames. Similar benefits can be obtained in his b 2 string when cancelling after the first hit. All strings can also be cancelled into mixups but thats not their best use imo and should be used sparingly so that you dont get full combo punished. The tradeoff to both of these variations is combo damage, since searing rage has more damage overall (burning spectre does have some insane damaging combos but they're much harder) and d f 4 is a pretty multiuse move that can help at times (but can also be heavily punished by some characters such as jacqui and liu kang). Skarlet isn't really easy to play. Yes, she's a zoner but working around her gaps and slow moves is tough. Cassie is also a lot more technical than most characters because you can't really excel without being good at hit confirming and pressure.

Great advice dude, best advice in this video is the final point you make; everyone prefers different play styles so play around.

I find sub zero great because there is this easy combo (back 143 into Slide amped) he is a great character

I don't know if it's just me but I feel like chaining combos in injustice 2 was easier. It had se kind of a flow.

I'm a scorpion main with sub-zero as my alt and I agree with this list completely. In my personal list though, I'd say sub-zero and liu kang should switch places. The ninjas have always been the mortal kombat equivalent to street fighter's shotos. I don't think anyone could logically deny that scorpion/sub-zero and ryu/ken are the easiest character to play in their respective games.

I have played both story modes thru this was my first MK experience. I didn't skip any cutscenes so it was like very expensive animated gore fighting movie with good story mostly, and ever once in a while i had to play / fight with and against some new character. But everybody who i have played i would say Sheeva, Kotal Khan, Raiden and Baraka are the strongest .

Awesome video man!!! Id like to see wich Characters are the Hardest to play, Im a Dvorah main from day 1 and im sure she's in the hardest list, since you got to put a lot of work like setups and those kind of stuff to win a match.

I think it'd be easiest to list hardest variations. Combo/zoning variations which tend to be on the easier side to learn, mix-up/oki characters down the middle, and then the pressure/setplay variations seem to be the most challenging. Then we'd have to factor in things like ability to poke out, availability to mid-hitting starters, execution difficulty, Jade can be our example: She has the best uppercut, an amazing D4, great whiff punishing tools, and an 11f mid. She has a very easy first variation with excessive zoning ability AND a free anti-zoning mechanic. Low risk, low-med rewards, up-ward razorrang makes her combos easier to execute. Her third variation is her mix-up variation which is medium difficulty. Loses her projectiles, anti-zoning becomes a reflector, an instant EX teleport, combos are a harder but her mix-ups are crazy good. Her second variation is the advanced one based on pressure and oki. No mix-ups, no zoning. She has amazing anti-zoning and rush down, but all pressure is created on the spot by the player. You have to condition your opponent into blocking the wrong way, and it's all reactionary. Frame traps are a little harder to learn, combos are difficult, and her oki is strong but requires conditioning the opponent as well. You brought up D'Vorah. I also think D'Vorah might be he hardest character to learn considering all her variations. Buzzed is a very difficult setplay/oki variation. Sacrifices a lot of combo damage for oki which may or may not succeed. And you cannot be good with buzzed if you don't know how to improvise which is very hard (but so damn fun). Even Arachnophobia, the combo variation has decently hard optimal combos. She has no reliable mid-punishers and is constantly subject to pokes.

Good video and good picks, but im gonna be honest, Erron black should've been number 1 imo, you can literally win matches but just 50/50 drop kicking or sliding. also his second drop kick is literally a crushing blow.

While some of these are easy to learn, some are hard to master too. Baraka, kabal, scorpion, all have very advanced techniques in their kits.

Im a new playier, i bought this game a few days a go and i really like it. The character i've playied the most is Raiden, out of all the characters i've tried, i did the best with him, even won a few rounds in online matches

I only rely on the gals and as far as i have experienced, Jade is the most simple yet most amusing among them.

How would you place Jax in terms of difficulty? I'm a new player (never touched any fg before) and searching for a character to main and I really like Jax as a complex character and when he attacks it feels like it hurts.

you should try Liu kangs variation with the low fireball and parry its rlly good for beginners like I was

Damn I really like all the characters on the list but I think Baraka and Kabal are the ones I’m gonna work on for now

If your new I suggest scorpion and noob saibot

i have been familiar with mortal kombat for a decade now and i have been playing the games since i was 10 but i recently bought this game and started on playing it , also i may say For me Kitanna and sonya has always been the characters that i find easy to play and i can say i am almost there with mastering kitanna but not yet , its not actually about what characters are easiest, its about what you feel like you can be passionate enough to learn them and it will definitely pay off the hard work..

Ended up watching your videos after purchasing the ultimate edition of the game. Haven't played a MK game since MK5... I'm in for a rough ride hahahaha... Plus I got bad habits from other fighting games like FighterZ.

He should be more specific with variations. For example, I main Noob and before the patch that buffed Seeing Double, when Black Sabbath was the only variation, he was a very hard character to get good results with. Seeing Double really is pretty easy and very good.

Variation is very subjective, that Is why I don’t include that. The character is more important. I play Shock Jock variation and find the other ones hard to use without it.

Now i finally get it. İ was wondering why there are sooo many scorpions in online mode. And why i am always losing against scorpions.

Scorpion, easy to learn, yea, but difficult to use effectively against online players. Due to him being so overplayed most people know how to counter and block his attacks. Teleport is pretty trash. Duck and an uppercut or a poke seals the deal. So he’s not that great at anti zoning. Reborn is what can make him slightly more effective tho. Imo 1. Liu Kang 2. Sonya Blade 3. Geras 4. Scorpion 5. Erron Black

Scorpion is this kind of character that if you miss a frame in one move it can ruin a whole combo its a very good character but very difficult in the strategic term a bad Scorpion player spam the special moves and makes combos at 30% with the two attack bars while a good main knows that he should not look like the others to surprise the opponent with a 40% combo without missing a frame

I’m going to main scorpion and sub-zero because of their new skins

I know this video was probably before the dlc, But I been really liking spawn for some reason lol and I not even close to novice at mk11

Surprised Jax didn’t make the list I found him to be the easiest in MK11 to pick up

I think it was the 3rd MK that I played with the arcade machine. I didnt have any money since I was a kid so I only played it a few times. Played Soul Calibur 2 and a few Dragonball games back in the ps2 games. Decided to pick up MK11 and I didnt know it was this deep. Its so different from what Im used to where you time your hits to do combos. I got a few of Scorpions moves but I just cant connect them smoothly properly 💀

I agree with everything in this video exept the part where he mentsioned Shao Khan. I think that Terrminator would be a lot more straight forward caracter. But thats just my oppinion

I use as my main scorpion and liu Kang and yeah both are very easy to use and play and also both are very stronger characters

Lui kang has those dial in combos that shit is not beginner friendly

Kano and Cetrion was easiest for me to learn first. I just can't get into the rhythm of Liu Kang or Skorpion. Now I have moved onto and getting decent with Kung Lao, Shang Tsung and Geras.

King Fargo liu Kang takes no conditioning all you need to do is cancel forward 43 into the parry or the low fire ball

Seth Brickman if i hit yea with f43 low fireball like 3-4 time in the first round. You’re gonna think twice about pressing a button ( condition). Now I can get my +6, throw, or continue pressure. Lui parry is only good off a hard read. I’ll you gotta do is d3 liu when tries to parry.

Good stuff.... can you do a video on match ups. Good and bad for each character. I think that would really be helpful to us newer players...

Scorpion isnt broken like Lui Kang Lui can literally frame trap you in the same kick combo all game and every single Lui Kang main plays exactly like that The same 2 kick combos that take priority over everything and when you knock your opponent back just keep shooting fire balls Then randomly flying kick 😑 Lui Kang is literally carrying like 80% of KL

kick combo can be ducked on the high and also interrupted its a punishable frame trap despite being plus on block. thats for seasoned fighting gamers tho to be fair

Baraka was my first. Not cause he was a good beginning but man's is dope and looks great. His combos are high damage for not very complex combos which is nice. Now I play him, nightwolf, and noob saibot. I think have 1 main and 2 backups is a great setup. Obviously you can learn more than that but that's kinda where I feel comfortable rn.

I just bought mk11 last week. I want to be a fujin main so damn bad but he is really hard for me to use. So I switched to maining Kotal Khan until I'm more experienced to handle Fujin better.

I’ve played MK before but just when I’d go over to friends houses or something, so very rarely and I would just button mash. I’m 19 now and I finally understand how combos and everything work and I’m addicted. I love playing tower and online and I actually have a good record already 😤 anyways I use Skarlet and Kabal as my mains but I also love to use kung Lao and Erron black. Tryna get good at lots of characters for online.😁

@MadDoggGames I’ve been looking for some good beginner characters to master the gameplay mechanics with since, a lot of the characters I find either have too many moves or have too many complicated setups and tech that I want to focus on because, they look cool rather than learning the basics which I should be focusing on so thanks for this video.

Since i know mortal kombat, liu kang was always my fav character, but im really liking shao kahn cuz of the back 4 it is i think

41 year old me watching this video, not having played MK since Deadly Alliance on the GameCube listening to all this talk about "forward 12" , "overhead starter" and nodding like I have any idea what this guy is talking about. Then playing the game and just smashing ALL the buttons randomly.

Baraka helped me a LOT in this game....very easy to use,and ridiculous amount of damage

I recommend noob Sai it you can spam combos and stuff easy to use also

As a Kollector main I’m proud to play him while apparently he’s not easy to play according to this video I find him easy to play, but of course that’s cuz I main him obviously
