    this video is 4 years old now and still helping! I just got into modular, bought morphagene and played the delay mode you explained with the signal of my guitar, created an amazing delay / modular effect that I never heard in any pedal, made me very happy, even composed a song on it! I also used the gate and envelope of my guitar signal (through a Befaco instrument interface module) to modulate morphane and it got even more wild, the more intense I play the guitar dynamics makes it modulate differently thank you @loopop for sparking ! 🤩

    Excellent video, as always. Morphagene has been the one module in my 12U x 416hp rig that I have yet to patch, as I got it with 2 large packages of modules with new cases that arrived all at once.,I’ve been really looking forward to begin recording samples to chop up, modulate, and integrate into my rack setup, with my other synths, or even some of my guitar songs, which I’ve been told Morphagene can record and completely modulate. Thank you ! This video was extremely helpful, as all of your tutorials are!

    Thanks loopop. Great tips! I knew MG was going to be my leap into the modular world, and I almost built my first rig like this one you're using in the video (Pam, Maths and MG). I ended up with something a little bit different, but one of your other vids convinced me to definitely get the Expert Sleepers ES-8 to use with VCV rack. One issue I have with Morphagene is it seems very touchy to get mine to "land on green" with the main reel knob. Not sure if that's just due to the material I'm sampling or what.. but overall I'm enjoying it very much.

    Amazing video as usual. I’ve been real focused on deep diving the morphagene lately and certainly gained a lot from this one, so thanks for that! Also wanted to add that Noise or an Audio Rate signal is also great for modulating varispeed if you’re after tape style wobbles, though sometimes you have to pre attenuate before the morphs attenuators in order to dial it in tightly. I prefer this method simply because you do get some noise and other artifacts that don’t always appear with CV signals 🤤

    This thing looks incredible. My god, the morph dial in the Gene Smoothing section. They included a Steve Reich function... "Did I mention subscribers get this quality music on a weekly basis?" I really, really, love the moments where your jokes pop up in the videos. I just got my Minibrute 2S last week, my DB Impact is on the way, and I'm ordering my 0-Coast today... No more spending for a few months, still paying off a new Mac too, but... The next steps after that will be modular. I liked the look of Blackbox/Bitbox, but this... This looks like a whole lot more fun. Do you have an "essential modules" video, not based on brands, but functionality? I've downloaded VCV and I have some Ableton packs (Bengal and Oscillot) but it's a massive step forward, and I look to your videos a lot for advice.

  • @richarquis

    @richarquis

    3 жыл бұрын

    Edit, some months later. This module was the reason I first decided that I wanted to start a rack. It wasn't the first module I bought (I started with a bunch of Mutable Instruments utility/function modules - Marbles, Frames, Stages, Links, and Blinds) and then followed on with voice/shaping (Plaits/Ripples) , and now my 1010 Bitbox mkii is just hours away from delivery, I think it's time to get the morphagene, since it's what made me want to start this whole journey. So, using MI Marbles t-section as a drum trigger into the bitbox, and the x-section as modulation for the envelopes in Stages, with Frames firmware hack in shift register mode going into plaits/ 0-coast / minibrute 2s, and some modulation into ripples, I can record some bonkers rhythms and melodies, then feed them into the morphagene and screw them up even further. Since I come from a background of dj'ing with turntables and vinyl, I'm accustomed to beat mixing by ear, not by computer sync, so manual modulations synced in time will be easy for me, with the added bonus of them morphing with a human feel, rather than a perfectly quantized robotic feel. There will be some slight nudging and phasing, but it will feel natural, just like the jitter function of Marbles. Honestly, I came into this whole modular thing as confused and overwhelmed as could be, but I saw what I liked. I started off with utilities, then added voices, and next, fx, and I feel I'm gonna start finding my way into what I envisioned at the start. Marbles will give me loads of great random patterns, the Frames Shift Register and Euclidean hacks will mess them up even further, and Morphagene will take that mess and tear it all apart again, and I get to do all the finishing touches by ear, not by computer. Make Noise Rosie will be next on the list so I can have a cue-system of loops and fx from the bitbox, recorded from Marbles and Frames and the voices, working like a regular dj system, and just feed the loops into Morphagene, and play it by ear, no clock/ gate inputs. I have about a month to learn Bitbox, while I wait for Morphagene (if it's in stock) Should do nicely!

    Hey quick question, do you use the HPO as the output for your skiff in this video? Do you find that HPO works well for these purposes generally? Thinking of getting one for that reason

    Hi there, Is the Keystep running through a module or is it going through a DAW?

    Thx for subscribing so well. I really look forward für this module to use it. By watching this Vdieo, I also have become the spiritually answer, WHY we all love modular Synth so much. I myself made a spontanly video on my chanel, by showing a still of this video in back. I hope, this is OK for you.

    Thanks for the videos! Any luck recording with the clock input? The method in the manual does not appear to be working for me. Once the clock is patched, it says REC will flash indicating it's waiting for the clock to record, but this is not happening for me. If I press REC, it just records everything from then on and does not wait for the click.

    Just be clear I can send audio from Ableton using external audio effect through UAD Appollo and straight into the to make recordings? I always got confused about the way it works in the pedal world with radial boxes to step down and step up the signal to make things work. So this workflow doesn't require any of that?

    How much overlap is there between this one and Clouds? Would it be redundant to have both?

    Old video I know but how do these sampling euro modules deal with the Line level to Modular level difference? I see no gain knob at the input

    At the risk of displaying a more or less complete misunderstanding, what connections are you using to connect the computer out to the Mg input?I have apparently run out of either ins/outs through my audio interface..
