Morocco's Drought-Tolerant Grains | Mali Fights to Save its Heritage | Resurgent Africa
On the show today, Morocco has endured simmering bouts of heatwaves for years. Human-induced climate change has led to a persistent drought which has adversely impacted agricultural yields in the north African nation. To combat the impacts of the climate crisis, Morocco’s Institute for Agricultural Research has developed new strains of grains, legumes, and oilseeds resilient to adverse climate conditions. Around 30 to 50 new plant varieties are already in development and will be tailored to address the climate-induced drop in agricultural yield.
