What's special about Morissette is that her voice can produce a wide gradience of tones - from the lightest of tones to the heaviest of tones. Total continuum, from the lightest to the heaviest tones, which she can flip into at any point in a song with no gaps in the vocal compression. Only a 90s prime Mariah Carey comes to mind when thinking of a voice with this wide of a gradience in tones at their disposal. She has an extreme level of skill in the 'vocal fold closures' department. I know that this is quite technical, but it takes a bit of knowledge to really grasp how great she is. Going back to the wide gradience of tones at her disposal: This is why her voice is capable of producing the so-called "Disney Princess" tones (very light tones, airy and soft tones; the use of very thin vocal folds), along with the vowel modifications that lend to this style of singing. I've heard many pop/contemporary singers do this style very well, but Morissette does it so genuinely. She does it so effortlessly and genuinely - enough to be a master of it. Now, here's a thought: Think about Morissette singing this "Disney Princess" style so effortlessly, and then juxtapose that to when she sings in her signature "gritty" style of singing (with all the distortions, compressed tones, textured tones, raspy tones, intentional vocal breaks, growls, squalls). Two styles of singing of the opposite ends of the spectrum, yet, she has mastered them both. Exceptional talent. No offense meant, but a lot of the Filipinos are so infected with "crab mentality" that they have failed to fully appreciate the prodigious talent of this young girl.

I’ve searched for a while for the very best version of this amazing song. I don’t know that it gets better than what these two have done. Absolute wow factor listening to them. Not fair that two people look this great AND sound so unbelievably gorgeous. 😌 Anyone else love how her mouth “shoots” to the side when she says “I’m like shooting star...” @1:44? Adorable, completely.

Apparently, according to a voice coach, "side mouthing" is a defense-mechanism to compensate (something) and usually a bad practice. But ya know, Morissette rakes in the cash soo.... that factoid doesn't really matter.

he purposely phrased it to sound more broadway, same with Morrisette. You can tell they held back, use clearer tone, did not do growls or runs, and Morissette used a lot of mix and head voice instead of a powerful chest belt. Darren sings here in the way Josh Groban sings.

I understand that some folks made comments like “They still prefer the original Lea and Brad’s version”, “nothing can beat Lea’s version” and so forth. Darren and Morissette was “handpicked” by Disney to sing this song. Ms. Lea Salonga, yes the original singer, had some influence in the selection process. Meaning, Ms. Lea Salonga believed that Darren and Morissette can deliver! She gave her blessings to these two great Filipino artist. Ms. Lea Salonga will forever be our Princess Jasmine and Mulan. Nothing can take that recognition away from her.
