What you call a screech is called a vocal break. She does it on purpose and is one of her signature things. It's not a mistake.

That "squeek" is actually her whistle register. She revealed that in an interview so it's completely intentional and is her signature. It's pretty nuts when you think about it. Most singers that intentionally add the "break" bring their vocals to the breaking point to do it. Morissette is just adding a whistle note. Nutty.

Those are intentional vocal cries/squeeks. It's her trademark and she can place it anywhere she wants to as a vocal dressing.

Morissette's squeaks are all intentional. Some of them sound better than others though. She mentioned in a recent stream that she uses them a lot less cause she cause she doesn't want that to be her "signature" but she still adds them cause fans like it. She is much more sparse in the usage of those these days.

There was some clipping/redlining of the mic going on during the last whistle section of Emotions. You can hear the crackling during the first two phrases and then it finally redlines in the third phrase. I agree with you guys that it takes guts to even attempt that song live. Absolutely!! Everything you said is right! Agree 100% with you. It only increases the chances of her making any little mistake considering all those things! Even still, I strongly feel she nailed this performance! AND… so many mainstream artist out right now that couldn’t nail this like she did. *Hey Asia & BJ! You two are a dynamic duo, with the 🔥 chemistry - Asia with the vocal knowledge and BJ with the overall performance and aesthetics! But seriously though, you two nailed this reaction! This is probably the gutsiest live performance I've ever seen from a 20 year old. The difficulty level was sky high and she proved she was the real deal here. Trivia: This was the performance that got her the title, "Asia's Phoenix". The power/fullness of her belting range and the vocal effects (i.e. vocal squeaks) were insane. The pitch issues had to do with her low range - her lower range was still underdeveloped here, so she had some minor issues managing those really low notes in "Emotions" and it got her off balanced. I mean, it's "Emotions", the hardest pop song in history! I don't even care about the pitch issues with the whistle notes - the fact that she had the guts to do that on a big stage like that, with no auto tune and no dubbing, is 🔥🔥🔥.*

The fact that Morissette can also perforn a Whistle note with her mouth close is already insane, . . . just sharing info. That woman is incredibly talented , the whistle note also passing through her NASAL. Unbelievable.

Maybe she is the best voice of this generation, it is inconceivable that she is a total stranger to the great masses, it is a similar case to So Hyang, but in this case So Hyang rejects huge record contracts, Mori wants to be independent, both are from the best of the last 20 years

Actually, those vocal breaks are indeed very intentional. I'm surprised you haven't noticed she does them in quite a few videos, one of them in her Wish bus performance of Rise Up.

Mori brought such 🔥 to this performance that the organizers of the Asia Song Festival invited her the next year to represent her country, the only contestant given those back to back honors. She returned in 2018 and her last song, Resignation, a popular Korean ballad, brought down the house when she did the last verse in Korean. Mori is a consummate stage performer and now also a song writer. Check out her Signature EP release with 5 original songs...they're charting around the world.
