One of the more interesting aspects of Filipino culture is their ability to mimic the American singers with perfect English while singing. Does not matter how broad their Filipino speaking accent is, once they get on stage it's like they grew up somewhere in the Midwest. That's why Filipino rock bands have always been the favorites at clubs throughout much of Asia, not just in the Philippines. They have an authentic American band sound that is harder for other countries to produce. It's not recent either, back in the 60s and 70s the Filipino rock bands dominated the circuit of the base clubs for all the American military bases across Asia.

@Rick. Have you listen to Morissette speak English?! How about Darren Espanto,Michael Pandilinan or Arnel Pineda of “Journey”?! I can keep going but they speak English with no accents, so i don’t know where got that idea that they are just mimicking American singers!!! Maybe you should listen to them talk before saying something dumb!!! I spent 7 of my teen yrs in the Philippines and 90% of the kids in my school(St Teresa Academy, Baguio City PI) just happen to speak perfect English!!!

@@heatherfeather8459 Sweetie, I've been married to a Pinay for 49 years and have been in-and-out of the Islands since the mid-1970s. I am typing this while watching Mrs. Rick pack our balikbayan boxes to carry with us next week on our return to Luzon. Perhaps you might want to not jump to conclusions about what I know and don't know about the culture and people. Since you brag about your education you might want to work on your comprehension skills. I was very obviously posting in generalities about singing even with an accent, and not about the specific people you named. Do not embarrass yourself.

@@heatherfeather8459 I think what he meant when filipinos are singing not when we are speaking, of course the accent will depend on the person speaking some filipinos can speak english without accent and some has their own asian accent. I hope you could be nicer especially if your going to comment that you study in the Philippines for a few years, your representing the nation very poorly. I observed that she has Mariah Carrey's voice: "Fly like a bird" & Whitney's voice too when she sang: "Run to me"; a very versatile and excellent singer with so many amazing octaves at her disposals. Morissette is a real gifted with this kind of unique voice but she nourished it well by trying and trying for a much better one. Because she doesn’t have to have any formal music/vocal lessons in a mucic Institution. She started singing at the age of 3 while left for a while in front of a karaoke machine in their home. Her parents shocked when they saw Morissette holding the microphone and singing Regine Velasquez (one of the finest Dive of the Philippines aka Asia’s Song Bird). And so his father (a member of a rock band) trained her for more... until Morissette is now unstoppable... and most of the people around the world who heard her singing loved her much...

Thank you for appreciating her talent. Morissette is 24 years old and she's really huge here in the Philippines. If you're interested in songs with meaningful lyrics then you might want to react to her latest single/music video, Love You Still which is currently charting. She co-wrote the song with her fiancée and it talks about her relationship with her father. She did her lows and highs here. Expect the unexpected 😊.

Two things: First, you need to check out more Mori, this is a very old video, in context, and you won't believe how wonderfully her voice has matured. Second, your hair is gorgeous! When you first turned to play the keyboard I was breathless for a second there. Stunning. Of course, great analysis as always and, as I;ve probably commented before, I LOVE your enthusiasm and obvious passion for the subject and how that exudes itself in the quality of the content you create. Fantastic.

Yay, Morissette! Nice to see you reacting to her. Actually, English is one of the two national languages in the Philippines, so her fluency isn't really that surprising, but her pronunciation of it is very clear. (My mother is also Filipina and has lived in the US for 59 years, but still has more of an accent than I hear in Morissette's voice, at least when she's singing.)

I love the way you do a vocal geek out! The expressions on your face is so priceless. And then add that to the thorough explanation of why Mori’s singing skill/styles/techniques make us not only enjoy listening to her, but what draws us, the listener, in and keeps us there! Thanks so much for this! I’ve already shared this with friends & family!

The guitarist and musical director in this video, Adonis Tabanda said in his YT reaction video said that the performance was 1 take and no rehearsal but only soundcheck because there were lots of performers that time and the schedule was very tight. Morissette sang 5 songs that time including the popular "Stone Cold" of Demi Lovato. You will be surprised with her rendition of that. 👏💙

This was done live for a local music channel. I read they had like an hour for the whole team to get ready. So they didnt have time to rehearse and the band was focused on their setup. She did like 6? songs, all of them she had to belt and she did her own hard song Di Mapaliwanag which is loaded with hard placed whistles and belting.

Morissette has the highest vocal range among all Filipino singers. She has vocal range of [Bb2 - D8]. A total of 5 octaves and 4 semitones.

I'm stunned by the control and the range of her voice. it's not my type of sound but it's definetly someone at the top of their game....... however........ i am not so enthusiastic about the rendition of this song. to me it feels like a catalogue of singing techniques instead of a story. for a song that does an amazing job of building tension in the early stages and then that release and the vocal exploration at the end this cover just falls short. i am really excited to see what else she has done and with all these comments for good songs it'll be fun to see her in more stuff.

@Laurens Jansen , I wonder if you'd feel the same way if you listened start to finish without any stops. In Morissette's orig vid of this song, the emotional story telling is very obvious to me. But you won't get that in this video, this vid is a technical breakdown (a very good one) of how Mori sang.
