More Power From The Husqvarna FE350 On The Cheap!

Ойын-сауық

Hung out in Jaren's Garage all evening and worked on the FE 350 and the 350 EXC-f. Jaren did the TPS adjustment mod and I checked my valves.

    I did this on my 2017 KTM 350excf at about 50hours. I’m now sitting around 450+ hours on the bike and it’s still going strong. Still haven’t even had to adjust the valves. Best mod for these bikes hands down. These bikes are insanely reliable.

    I have had many bikes over the years. My current ride is a DRZ400S. A little on the heavy side but for the riding I do it has been a reliable, inexpensive fun ride. But now over the years I constantly wanted more power, and no matter what you do to a drz it will never satisfy my need for speed. Recently I went down to my local KTM / Husky dealer and test rode a 2020 FE501S. Was able to ride it for 30 mins, 10 of that single track. Boy was I disappointed, glad I did not spend 10 grand and more for a bike that's not much better than my drz. I know it would be a whole different story if the mods were done to it. I will just get a FE501 (dirt version) and plate it were legal...Great video on giving us the skinny on making a good bike better...Thank you...

    Tim Heslin the KTM and Husqvarna bikes need to be opened up from the factory ( the street legal ones) any of the KTM/Husky bikes should have suspension that is far superior to the DRZ in every way once you get it dialed in for your weight. Does the exhaust mod devalue your spark arrestor?

  • @OregonDualSport

    @OregonDualSport

    5 жыл бұрын

    Nope, it shouldn't! The screens that are restricting air at the end of the pipe are un-related to the spark arrestor. Sure, the stock spark arrestor is clunky and probably does reduce airflow, but if you don't drill through that you're totally in the clear as far as legality and safety goes.

    Thanks for watching! It's interesting - sometimes the pigtail/multimeter was spot on, but if I were to plug in the TPS tool multiple times, I would always get the same reading. When I plug in the pigtail/multimeter, sometimes it's close to what the TPS tool says, and other times it's a .01-.07 off, which at that point can be a pretty big difference in power. -Alex

    I'm surprised at the shortage of power in the stock settings. That engine must be heavily de-tuned for a 350. Must be like that for longer maintenance intervals. IDK? Glad to see you pull up the power. I wonder what would happen if the head was ported and polished. After further research on this engine, porting is not recommended nor needed.

  • @OregonDualSport

    It is mainly to do with regulations and the EPA. The end screens help lower noise to meet regs and the reed valve helps with emissions, and then to top it all off, the run it lean. So just adding more air and fuel makes a huge difference. It's actually pretty crazy, and cool since its all there for less than $200. - Jaren

    Free? Pretty sure you said he spent $120. For anyone considering their advice...don't waste your money. Save that 120 and put it toward a Vortex. Plug it in and done. If you eventually decide to get rid of the bike... Just slap the original ecu back in and sell the vortex. I bet any potential buyer would be stoked knowing it has it. Used ones from 2017 still sell for 500. On my FE350 I opened up my air-box by adding pre filters to the cover...and have a fmf ti slip on. At 50mph in 4th I can power up no problem. 10 different maps to choose from on the vortex but in order to utilise and play around with all of them...you gotta get the bike breathing better. Open up the air-box and de-restrict the exhaust. A few holes in the top of the battery box will be enough to get air...along with pulling the reeds. If you choose to use the stock exaust there are other ways to open it up. It will need more airflow than just punching out the screen. Lol...why waste 120 on 2nd gear wheelies when you can have 4th for 700. These mods are soo much more than that tho. Completely different bike now. It's a beast!! Smoked a 17' 701 Enduro in a 1/4 mile a couple weeks ago.

    Thanks for your input, Bob. While we'd all love to be able to splurge and buy the Vortex, it's significantly more money than this mod. The point of this video isn't to compare the two methods of gaining more power, but rather to say, "if you don't have $700 to toss, this may be a nice option to help you out in the meantime". We all know the Vortex is the better route, but we wanted to help show that there are other, cheaper options (and I promise it's not a "waste of money"). - Alex

  • @OregonDualSport

    @OregonDualSport

    To add to what Alex said, you can actually do it for less than $120 as well. On my bike, I kept the stock end cap, knocked out the screen and only put in the Mototerre intake tube ($69) and used the tool we already had. You can use a harbor freight multimeter that you can get for $9. So with a total cost under $80 you can completely change the bike for the better and achieve gains that most people would be stoked on for less than $100. Not everyone has $700 to drop on mods. - Jaren
