One of my wrestling team mates called me cardio king. In reality my cardio is ass, but I have good pacing.

I'm giving up on smoking. As a guy with dreams I'm really embarrassed of it but in sparring or running I always knew how to pace myself. In sparring I was avoiding punches with ease (my reach really helps that) so the other guy always burns out overextending, then out of frustration they try to knock my head off throwing 100% punches and it doesnt work. for those who hate running I absolutely understand. I hate pure running but there is a way to fix it. I was laughing and being skeptical when someone advised me that but headphones can really save your day. not only it makes you deaf to your terrible breathing (not saying you should not control your breathing but it makes you focus on something else) but you can use your imagination. be Rocky of your own movie that pumps you up.

He's spot on about the breathing. That was my number one weak point in fighting.
I like the mentality, but I still think Cardio is More important. You can exert as much energy as your body can handle. The stronger your cardio, the more dynamic of a fighter you can be.

Agreed. Think of yourself with stat bars. Power, speed, feints, footwork, combinations are all powered by cardio and if you have an abundance of it, that opens you to so many possibilities

So true. Pacing is everything + decent cardio is everything
This is advice not just for fighting and training. This is life advice and can be applied to everything.
Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate that you share your experience and use your own mistake to make us progress. There is so much fight channel which turn into cult of personality...Thanks for your humility. Keep up the good work!
You're right sir very important just look at Mcgregor vs Diaz 1 pace is critical. Good video as usual.

Sonny Bill I guess u could also say that his cardio was terrible as well as how he paced the fight
@minsengo
7 жыл бұрын
Pablo lambert. It was multiple things. Definitely Conor head hunting was the biggest mistake. But Diaz is a guy who builds up into a rhythm and we saw him feinting, throwing body punches, the volume strikes, which left Conor swinging at air a lot as Nate was able to bait out the reactions from him.
@pablolambert2817

Saturnine I agree it was a big problem but I think in the end if Connor haddent been over confident and ignored nates cardio and ability to work with rythm it would of been very different just like the second fight so ultimately it was really to do with how Connor trained and his ignorance towards Nate's skills

EET FUK what about me?
This is definitely one of the issues that I had, I am a person that gives it all when training thinking that I can reach infinite stamina level (Super saiyan lol) and would end up tired in the first few rounds! Pace, bating and strategy are far more important than wasting energy trying to land power blows every time
exactly what i was looking for, i always try to find ways to keep my cardiovascular up, thanks for the pace tips my man 👊💯
Great observation I'll keep this video in mind during and when I'm performing.
Shane I really love your videos they help me a lot!! I practice in my gym everything that I watch in them thanks a lot men you are awesome!!
I absolutely love your videos. Quick, direct, informative and interesting! I recently bought your gloves and shin guards also! My coach recognized your gear right away! :)
I like that this can be applied to other sports to not just fighting, like I don't fight, but this tips can helpful in track too.
thanks for these advices.i just got my sparring today and i really get tired . this video help
Thank you Shane for the tips your the best man
Thanks for the vid! I'm quite bad at pacing myself. I'm basically always tensed up and trying too hard. Even during shadowboxing I throw everything very hard and use a lot of energy slipping and bobbing. It's my next point of focus to tire myself out less, but it's quite hard, because I used to just do cardio and HIIT in which the whole point is to exert yourself as much as possible as quickly as possible to get the max out of your training. Now, I gotta learn to relax again...
thank you Shane , this is what I need it.
Thank you this really helped me Shane
this is pretty good for wrestling too, for me i usually use the first period to figure out how my opponents style, how does he react to my level changes, then once i got all that and i take him down a few times to get used to taking a shot on him, i use the next period to take him down, pull the trigger and go for the pin
Man you have so much good knowledge on fighting! We should annoint you Dr. Shane from now on! : - )

Man I wish I had watched this just before my last fight. I over committed to the knockout strikes and ended up walking into an over hand right. Woke up with the doc looking me over.

yes this is just what i want to hear... pace yourself. everytime we spar, i always give, well not 100% but more energy and i end up catching my breath. i was trying to throw a lot of combos and try to hit my opponent hard but often times i missed or he was able to block and counter attack.
Awesome tip Shane
Great, Thank You.

I used to always get gassed out but then I took a McGregor approach and sat back, held the karate stance and focused on counters and feints. Oh damn did I last a hell of a lot longer! Anyway great video man keep it up!
3:18 is the best part. Skip to this point
great videos appreciate the advice as a amature kickboxer
Very nice, Shane. I know guys that get really nervous even at sparring, most because they're afraid to get hitted. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be afraid, the fear keeps us alive, but a couple of punches at the face with boxing gloves on won't kill you too. Just relax and have fun. Cheers from Brazil.
thanks for tip's
Thanks For This Video Sir..
Very good video, Shane. "He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight." Sun Tzu Great tips as always, 👊🏻
dude you are my inspiration for the reason i fight. i have been subbed since the first vid. love you dude (not gay way)
For some reason, I was dying of laughter when he started hitting the heavy bag the first time. Reminds me of me when I started training xD
Great iv I train MMA and compete in BJJ and I'll be sure to use your advice. Thx
i train 20min cardio every other day and wonder why i still get winded too soon like half way through my 3min heavy bag workout and also when i hit the mits. i get the difference now. thanks for the tips bruh!

The trick is finding a pace that works for you. I find it very helpful to go light and fast in the heavy bags, and medium and slow when lifting weights. when sparing, I go medium and slow, then fast and explosive only when I see opportunity, then I reset
@johnnychannarong5484

wow your pace is exactly like mine.. im always trying to slow down the pace.. i only do random bursts of fast speed when an opportunity presents itself.. usually after i see ' weakness '
awesome video, man. thanks it helped me a lot! Like 👍
Thanks
Some people are saying that cardio is more important, and it is, but you need both cardio and pacing yourself because nobody is going to be throwing massive power shots without getting tired.
Fantastic
Can you do a video on defense against sweeps, I got swept today and I'm embarrassed 😔I did not throw a kick, he somehow kicked behind my leg and took out both my legs, but he barely moved and was right in front of me.

Have a look at getting just Daylight bulbs on camera and in your gym, it should help your colour balance, you've got a mix of orange and blue going on at the moment. Thanks for the tips as always!
Shane can you make a video tutorial of how to use the power side kick in a spar or kickbox match , or even in the street fight. p.s. great video as usual 👊

Hey Shane fightTIPS, a video about fedor emelianenko's calmness and what to learn from it is an idea for a new video.
Hey Shane could you do a video on the 5 mistakes with overhead punches? Thanks dude
when I spar I throw mostly jabs and check hooks, keeping the distance. when they start to fade thats when I put just a bit pressure still keeping the distance waiting for THE shot

jab, cross, left hook, right uppercut. Simple combo that works each basic punch. If you feel up for it then switch the jab to your right hand and cross to your left and so on for the other punches
@Jon-ov4nc
7 жыл бұрын
GUYS! he said beginner combos! start with 1-2 combos a jab followed by various rear hand attacks (cross, hook, uppercut, body strike). then do it with 2 jabs. the main detail to focus on is to not pull your jab back for extending the arm, its not a power punch. its a distraction. a lot of combos begin with a jab, if you broadcast your jab you wont even pull off basic 1-2 combos. someone like me will just slip the obviously incoming punch or kick you in the ribs when your guard opens up. and do not, i seriously mean DO NOT move your head left when you throw a right hand or you will violently throw your own face onto the end of someones fist. a skilled fighter wont even throw a punch when you do this, they will just hold their arm out and wait for you to run into it. as you get better make it 3 punches, then 4, then 5.
This is gonna help me a lot I'm gonna have my first fight early next month and my biggest fear is my cardio and how to Control my self in the fight to last all the rounds and it's hard to find sparring partners Australia because boxing isn't heaps popular over here so I can't really practice it in a semi real fight!

Hey Shane do some BJJ in street fights and how to use it as maybe some judo too, not sure if you've done this but I think it would make a good vid and help a bunch of people out
3:18 when he went off on the heavy bag😂😂😂
hey shane can you make a video on how fighters or ahtletes can get back in shape after a layoff or injury
saludos desde argentina muy buenos tus videos. I see somethings the machidas Lyoto or even Chinzo could be the example for this tips, seems like both fighters read the mind of his opponent and know when is the moment to atack o defend to stay passive or agresive. Sorry my lenguage i speak only a little of english
That fight scenario explained in the beginning is what happened to me in my first fight. Almost knocked him out. Gassed early in the second. Lost a decision. I learned that day 😆
I absolutely lost it when u just started swinging at the bag idk if u intended it to b funny but I almost died loved the video thanks for everything man ur really helpful #oss
Man I learned that if you don't do any sparring for a while and u get rusty on pacing techniques , it doesn't really matter if your cardio has improved.
You should make a boxing vs karate video.
Can you do a video on the muay thai long guard ?
Cool
Shane, do u still compete in any local fighting league's? If so you should do more fight overviews. thanks
I think you should train harder than you fight, if you can do five six minute rounds regularly then five fives won't seem so bad and might compensate for the adrenaline. like if you get a solid workout then roll for half an hour for example then if you go for a tournament it's easier
Can you make a video describing all the forms like philly shell vs peekabo and mummy?!
What kind of stuff do you do for your joints? Do you do any kind of wrist rolls or anything like that?
Do a video on what to do if someone is preasuring you
anyone else here after listening to the KSI vs Logan interview?

Staying calm and exhaust you'r opponent is probably the most important aspect of BJJ
Im a 278 pound guy so since my body uses alot more gas for being big, pacing is always the key. Some small thai guys i know seem to have unmimites gas tanks but even they pace themselves.
hey Shane another great video I actually have a boxing match coming up I fought this kid before and won he is shorter than me and actually gave me a standard count but got very tired after which ended up making me win the fight do you have any tips on which way I should approach the fight it would be really helpful
Rory MacDonald know how to pace himself, accurate in his shots and be agressive at the same time.
True because I just had a fight satureday and only had stamina for one round. I just faught moderately and controlled the fight.
One great example- Ali vs Foreman
