    Obviously my sport is different (HEMA) and the level I'm fighting and training at is lower, but whatever. I took a single day off before a tournament last month, and felt okay as I took it super easy that day and just spent some time doing active recovery stuff, and ended up getting silver. I do feel I could have been even more on top of things if I had taken a second rest day before the tournament, but to be honest I don't think it would have done much of a difference in the final match.

    I'm not sure how this would translate to fight competition, but in other competitions I would stop doing anything hard enough to build lactic acid about 4-5 days out, but starting to taper 7 days out. Same as in your video, pretty much

    Thank you, my fellow champion for your insight and wisdom. I’m a boxer that always makes weight since I’m very disciplined and focused. Before my most recent fight I took the day off before the fight and I am glad I did! I was stronger, relaxed, and in the right mindset. I was blessed to get the “Win” in Mexico 🇲🇽, “GANADOR”🥇. When I don’t have a fight in the near future or up until 2 months before my fight, I find it best to take at least 1 rest day- sometimes 2 but no more. That’s because my boxing training sessions are 2 to 2 1/2 hours (26-30 three minute rounds). I also run at least 5 days a week. Basically, as athletes, we must listen to our bodies. Personally, as a boxer, it’s best for me to train 5-6 days a week with one or two rest days. Rest days are very important! God bless you and thank you. 😎🔥🥇 🥊🥊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💖✝️

    I fight this Saturday… I trained hard for this. I Had a good hard sparring last Thursday and some good sparring last Saturday. Monday I did your conditioning sprints, boxing workout, and calisthenics. I took Tuesday and Wednesday completely off cause I caught a cold and was feeling beat down from training camp and work. Hopefully Thursday I feel better so I can get a shakeout in. Was planning on taking Friday off anyway. Already on weight too

    Good stuff. IMO, guys train too hard too close to the fight (although I work with mostly grapplers....but I have prepped MMA fighters). I like to keep intensity maxed, but 7 days out cut duration. No more hard striking sparring and you have to watch wrestling also, as it cause more injuries than people think. I will keep some hard ground rolling in (but again careful w/ subs). Tuesday is just fairly hard driling, but total training is under and hour (if we are not cutting a lot of weight). Wed is about 30-40 minutes of hard drilling, Thurs is about 20 minutes of lighter drilling. Lots of stretching during this period. Friday must be complete rest. I work mostly with wrestlers now and they compete so much I just try and give them (and am sometimes at odds w/ their high school coach) a lighter day of wrestling on Tuesday before a wed match. For a big Saturday tourney I advocate Friday completely off if possible.

    I skip ropes for warming up before entering the ring for amateur fight. When all my Kru (3, 4 of them, all Lumpini champion) saw it , they immediately stop me like that was a big no no . Is it that bad to skip before fight ? Like to know your opinion.

    Gabriel, how do you feel about Yoga? I swear by it and feel it helps all my martial arts fundamentals & kinetic movements in a very direct way, but I notice a lot of martial arts KZreadrs veer away from Yoga, almost like they swear OFF it. I don't understand, maybe people just hate flexibility, breathing & core-strengthening exercises done in one fluid motion?

  • @willtoler6917

    Yoga is very bad for the human body according to functional patterns. Check them out, myofascia release has been much more optimal for me

  • @tophernolastname2378

    @tophernolastname2378

    Жыл бұрын

    @@willtoler6917 I firmly believe Functional Patterns is one of those "yoga makes me feel uncomfortable & girly, and the Buddhism influences make me angry because I don't need anyone telling me about life(!), and I don't have the patience to just hold a position for a whole minute(!!!), so I'm just gonna get a massage & rationalize my insecurities later" people. The fact he condescendingly said "Yeah, I guess if you do Yoga your heart is in the right place..." confirmed this for me. - His first argument, that "flexibility is overrated", is counteracted by Knees Over Toes Guy who says that extreme flexibility goes hand-in-hand with explosiveness. FP equated extreme flexibility to putting yourself at risk of injury, which shows a fundamental misunderstanding of what Yoga does. It builds core strength as it stretches your muscles, teaches you breath control, magnifies your balance, and it's so low impact you can do it on your recovery days & be okay, or even while injured and still heal-- and it takes YEARS OF DOING IT DAILY, with little to no explosive & strength training, to reach the type of risk-of-injury flexibility he's talking about. - Also, flexibility is EXTREMELY important in martial arts-- more than almost any other sport. The necessity of high kicks in kickboxing, a high guard & rubber guard in Jiu-Jitsu, a wide base in Wrestling, and even the need for maximum range of motion for the footwork of high-level boxing, make flexibility far more requisite compared to, say, in Football or Basketball or Hockey-- I'd even wager flexibility is more important in martial arts than in Soccer. Most anything short of dance or gymnastics. And it's not something you can build by playing with the Bulgarian Bag or combining explosivity, or getting a massage. - The "lack of innovation" argument is also debunked by the existence of Power Yoga-- and he acts like swinging a kettlebell around is groundbreakingly new (as though people weren't exercising with cannonballs right up until the 20th century). - The rest of his arguments are basically "Yeah Yoga is good but you should be doing explosive stuff like wind sprints or swinging the battle mace around to maximize your efficiency"-- I can't do that every day, if I did my knees and joints would be completely fucked up. That's why I started doing Yoga in the first place. Functional Patterns reminds me of Mike Dolce. He was hot shit when he first came out-- then enough people tried him out & didn't have the miracle results they expected, and actually got fucked up, thence Mike Dolce's zenith hath crested.

    Nobody asked me, but for explosive athletes I think long yoga sessions are a waste of time. I do very short (10 min) evening sessions before bed and I notice an improvement to my movement and speed, without any downsides. However, I am naturally very inflexible. For a naturally flexible person, it might be detrimental, as they should be working more plyos to improve joint support/rigidity, rather than increasing flexibility. Just my opinion
