    Tips with your new mic 1) check the gain so you avoid clipping. Aim for -12 db on VU meters 2) clip the mic slightly lower for better capturing and frequency response. 3) equalize your vocals ( such as removing 6-7k with a wide PEQ to reduce sibilance 4) price =/= best quality in audio. Check out Cheap Audio man for honest reviews and the most bang for ur buck if that’s an issue. 5) The audio quality has definitely improved.

    The new mic starts clipping sometimes and it also has a slight crackle. Although the overall volume has increased because the mic is now closer to your body, the overall quality of audio has degraded. However, I do recommend that you think twice about returning the mic because it will be very useful when you are filming videos outdoors or when you are traveling.

    Great video! The new mic could use some tweaking… maybe add a small inline mixer to monitor your levels prior to and during recording? A little compression in post can help with a lower input signal too. I suspect there’s good performance there and it will require a little fiddling to get the result you’re after but it’s definitely worth the effort!

    Great tips, Gabriel, it's so easy to listen to them, but sooo hard to remember them in sparring, unless a man practices a lot and imprints them into himself :) As for the mic - when You had Your hands up it was much too loud and distorted, the previous one did a better job in that regard, however the voice was a bit crispier here, so a bit of improvement :)

    There is some good advice in the comments about the mic setup. Quality is good, but it varies throughout the video. I also have a question, it's about giving class/training: How do you (if you need to anyway) cope with giving class to a varying expertise level? There is no band system like in Judo so that I can decide what level of excercise I can give to the class. And since I've got new students every other week the expertise of the students keeps varying. My current solution is to give different levels of the same excersise e.g.: if you are a beginner just do the jab standing still, bit experienced step with it, more experienced is more (head)movement. Do you got any tips on this? If it's splitting the class I get the same problem as before, I don't know how to rate them since some people can beat other on sheer conditioning but not having technique. Thanks in advance, and loving the video's! Greetings from the Netherlands, Osu!

    Great timing, as I've just sparred today with a friend and got countered flush with a big right hook to the jaw. Dazzled me a bit and so I went on thinking what I did wrong and "setting a plan" for my next attack, so that I wouldn't be countered again. Well, I got hit with exactly the same shot a round after. I think it's exactly what you're explaining here : I should have watched and felt my partner on the attack instead of blindly unrolling my previously thought plan. Sounds very simple indeed but hard to do.

  • @chriskerwin3904

    @chriskerwin3904

    Stop having a plan and just be confident that you can land whatever the other person gives you. Be active in your movement and trust your athleticism and skills if you've practiced them. Use the sparring to focus on making those on the fly decisions as fast as you can so it becomes instinctual instead of focusing on the technique.

    Hard for me to judge the audio from just one video. It does sound like your voice is more full-bodied in this one, but there's also more distortion when your hands/arms are up close to your mouth. I'd say it's a slight improvement overall, but if you can do something to address that distortion, I think it'd get even better 🙂 Very good video. I try to keep some element of reaction in mind when practicing specifically for avoiding that "deciding what to do before seeing if it makes sense" situation. It's gotten me tapped a few times in partnered defense drills, but it's helped me pull up short of blasting someone who messed up a few times, too, so hopefully it also helps make me safer to train with 🙂

    The same way you're always looking for patterns in your opponent's movements there should be a check continuously running in the background of your mind to see if you have repeated twice or more the same sequence. Then you can either switch of use part of it as bait before switching to something else.

Do you have any advice on dealing with, or harnessing, the emotions that hit you during or going into a fight?

    I don't care really about the mic you are using or what clothes or haircut you are wearing etc. to be honest but much more about the content. Something I would have add is to initiate something sloppy on purpose like a throwaway jab, anticipate the counter and counter the counter. Like baiting the opponent in to counter. For example he parries your throwaway jab and throws his own jab so that you can counter it.
