I’ve heard that teams at ACC meetings are offering most of buyouts from FSU and Clemson and the bulk of the extra money from ESPN for additions to UNC to placate them to stay in ACC

I've read several articles stating that UNC leaving the ACC would be the death knell for the conference. They believe the ACC would survive if Clemson & Florida State were the only schools that left but UNC stayed.

@@tomdemay6147 UNC is the brand the other conferences want. You've got a good chunk of the SEC that doesn't want Clemson or FSU because they already own the market. The Big Ten would like to get into Florida so I can see them making a play for FSU. Dabo Swiney doesn't care for the transfer portal, so Clemson's brand isn't going to be worth as much as they think.

@@Doc_Boots shouldn’t NCSU be staying up to date on this as well? I mean if their goal is to stay in the ACC that’s fine. They need to make sure though they have no part in blocking UNC leaving which I am sure that battle will come .

@@brandonstrickland580 NCSt needs to decide who they want to be. If they have any hope of escaping with UNC as their backpack to the SEC , they should not be using the BOG to block movement. All that does in the long run is irritate Sankey in delaying his plans. At the end of the day, Wolfpack needs to decide which bet to make. Neither move is safe.

@@Doc_Boots worst case scenario they will end up in Big 12 which will be fine. More likely they will get picked up by whoever dont get UNC. Both Big 10 and SEC want into North Carolina. If SEC don't bring both then Big 10 will pickup whoever is left.

Even if North Carolina, Florida State, and Clemson leave the ACC (and that's a big IF right now), they would probably not get much more money than what they're getting in the ACC. FSU and Clemson to the SEC would make the most sense. The SEC is predominately a football conference, so they would be a better fit there. However, the SEC just added Texas and Oklahoma (traditional football powers), so that means that FSU and Clemson would have to compete with all these other football giants (Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Florida) for recruits....and TV deal money. That's a battle that they may not end up winning against those big dogs. Also, would the SEC schools want to divvy up more money to those schools? That's a smaller share of the pie. - - If North Carolina were to leave, it would make more sense for them to join the Big 10. The Big 10 is more of a basketball conference, and basketball is UNC's money maker. However, the Big 10 just added Washington, Oregon, USC, and UCLA. That's more money that the Big 10 has to divide up for revenue sharing. The Big 10 may not be too keen to add any more schools until they see how the revenue landscape shapes up. - - I think all three schools are stuck in the ACC for the time being, but with the Pac-12 now no longer in existence, I think it's only a matter of time before the ACC also goes extinct.

you are looking at it all wrong. It's over for the ACC. They are CONSOLIDATING. They are buying market share. Also The TV deals GROW with the new teams. The TV money is there and always will be for football. More matchups is better for TV. If Clemson joins the SEC then when they play Georgia, Bama, LSU etc those are all BIG MONEY TV games that the conferences can demand more money from the networks or streams for. Big 10 is FOR SURE adding teams. That is the whole goal. Big 10 has been playing chess since day one when they stole Maryland and added Rutgers. Also nobody is worried about having to play these new conference schedules. Playoffs is 12 teams now. You dont have to WIN the SEC to get in the playoffs. You can come in 3rd and make it. You can probably come in 4th and maybe even 5th and still make playoffs.
