    if you cant logically number the prize cards you cant logically draw them. how do you determine what is number one? the first prize card placed down ? the first prize card going from left to right? what if your left handed? what order do you place them in ? is the prize area 2x3 or 3x2? its more sus to think there is such a thing as a logical order for prize cards.

    One way to describe why you like your prizes the same way is to reduce your cognitive load. When you play this game for hours at a time and at your high level - then keeping control of things keeps you from having to think about them. And that frees up your brain, or basically your resource of decision making, to focus even a little bit more on the game.

    I don’t understand why some people can’t wrap their heads around the fact that taking random prizes has the potential to make you look suspicious. Like it’s already random anyway, why do anything that someone could use down the line to say that you were manipulating the game in your favor? No, there’s no rule against it, and it doesn’t mean you’re cheating, but why do anything that doesn’t improve your odds of winning but absolutely does have the potential to affect a possible judge ruling and/or hurt your standing in the community?

  • @BlueBartowski

    @BlueBartowski

    Жыл бұрын

    I don't understand why some of you can't wrap their head around the fact that it's a psychological thing. If it's already random, then why does it matter what prize card I go to pick up and from what direction and from how far I reach for it? Azul is trying to push a narrative that's non existent because HE doesn't like when other players pick random prize cards instead of going in a certain order like HE does. And this has nothing do with what Oliver did because what Oliver did deserved a DQ. But Azul is also talking in general and that's where the disconnect is coming from. Because Azul thinks something that general looks suspicious doesn't mean that it is, but some of ya'll can't think for yourselves.

  • @slugger4073

    @slugger4073

    Жыл бұрын

    @@BlueBartowski -I never said this had anything to do with Oliver’s DQ (which is unquestionably justified), it is an extension of the discussion involving how players select prize cards, which inevitably gets brought up every time something like this happens. -I had this same opinion long before I heard it from Azul. The only thing you do by taking your prize cards in a random order each time is invite scrutiny from any onlooking players/judges. For example, if you play on stream and take exactly what you need, when you need it, you invite accusations of peeking at them, marked sleeves, etc. It’s absolutely true that it doesn’t matter from a randomness perspective, but one way opens itself up, albeit only slightly in niche situations, to the possibility of scrutiny, while the other is a repeated pattern of behavior that no one can level an accusation at. -I don’t see how Azul is “pushing a narrative”. He’s not saying that you can’t do it however you want or that you’re cheating if you do, he’s just stating a fact that some people are going to wonder why you selected the prize card you did, especially if it seems to be oddly in your favor. Taking them in a sensible order is just as random as taking them in a different order every game, but the difference is that even other people seeing you play for the first time can’t reasonably accuse you of cheating. People love to jump to conclusions and accuse others of cheating, even when there isn’t a real basis for it, so making this small adjustment insulates you from those accusations. -This part is my personal opinion, but the only thing that selecting your prizes yourself is good for is 1: When you’ve laid out your cards with Peonia, which can be an important aspect of some decks, such as Gardevoir/Mewtwo VUnion (Perfectly legitimate time to do so) or 2: when you’ve somehow stacked your prizes in your favor, such as through marked sleeves, insufficiently shuffling after Hisuian Heavy Ball (which coincidentally is featured in Oliver’s breakdown of his DQ) or some other means of judging which card you’re going to get before you take it out of your prizes, such as looking at its reflection in the glass of the prize cam on regional stream games. Does this mean every player that takes prizes randomly is cheating? Absolutely not. But the reverse is true, that every player who IS cheating through prize manipulation will be taking them in random order, because they’ve established some way to identify them. I admit this is an extremely small matter that is likely to never come up for any normal player even over the course of their entire career, but it’s still a small optimization you can make to help insulate yourself from possible misunderstandings. TL;DR - If it’s all random anyway, why take prizes in a way that can look like cheating when you can take them in a way that doesn’t?

  • @pricejonathan89

    Not discussing the actual incident because from footage looked a deserved dq. But azul suggesting there is a specific order to take them surprises me. I've always taken from bottom-upwards. I know some people are joking about the prize cards and coin flip thing, but for those who aren't, it's not superstitious. It's a way of getting your brain in a certain state or keeping it there when you do certain things over and over. These things are sometimes called rituals in sports. Most basketball players, for example, will do the same ritual before they shoot a free throw. Same number of bounces each time, same number of deep breaths before lifting up to shoot. It's really common.

    The prize mechanic the way it's currently implemented feels like it has a lot of cheating potential. Why isn't it stacked and you draw off the top? Clarity in remaining prizes? Anyway, feel like this guy discerned that one card was more likely to be Klara because of the non shuffled, he shouldn't have that information and didn't wanna fully admit that's why he felt the cards weren't a 50/50. In magic at least, that would still be considered cheating.
