As a big fan of doom, sludge, and stoner metal, this is my favorite Morbid Angel album. Surprise. The mixture of rapid drumming and super-heavy, slowed-down guitar riffage just hits my sweet spot so hard...

Heard that. Been digging through a bunch of Death Metal I missed my first time through with the genre and holy shit. Morbid Angel has so much good stuff that they've managed to take up the majority of my playlist lately. Definitely one of those bands that just has a special kinda heft to it.

This is morbid angel at its finest in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I will never stop putting altars of madness up there in my top 3 favorite metal albums ever. Now Pete's gone in more ways than I can tell and I know Dave was there from the beginning but I see two completely different morbid angels. Old MA and post-formulas MA. I like what morbid angel was becoming. When Formulas fatal to the flesh came out I thought it was so groundbreaking and it redefined morbid angel. Formulas may be the most natural and creative death metal album ever. That's my opinion. Gateways is like that and it has Eric on it. Best line up, the lyrics are great, the music is awesome. If it just would've stayed like gateways.. Trey can still make an album that would turn everything around. I hope Steve Tucker does end up being the vocalist again.

@@glenncollie9806 honestly glad to see some others who really dig those two. I see a lot of people that seem to disregard anything past the David Vincent era, but so far this album and FFF have been the ones that resonate with me the most I think. Just absolutely crushing.

Lyrics: Omniscient are the eyes that see beyond What we choose to see Transcending of beliefs, that limit man's being The dogma that feeds the listless Has thrived uncounted years Impeding on ones perception Of what is to be Awaken to see A god of a desertion A god of lies Enlightened by a way, deceiving Only truth to the blind The salvation that you seek is empty No god of light The venom that has fed your faith You except with ease But the sights that lay before you Destroy your beliefs Awaken to be At one with nothing Now all will be seen The seeds of the weak destroy The lies told of forgiving, exposed The ignorant, thrown to the wake Your calling names of gods They are only shrines The waves of the truth, enslave Slaying the blind Awaken to a light of knowing All your truth was lies And the faith which you embraced Has left you blind Deceived like the fools that surround you It came with ease unfulfilled were the days of your being But now you will see
